Chapter 1260: Chapter 108: Successfully Rescued

Saint Jialin walked briskly forward without looking back. Above his head, Black Dragons kept flying by, their massive roars deafening.

Only when no one else was around did Saint Jialin gently speak out, "Little Zi?"

"Don’t talk, just do as I told you." A hand was placed on Saint Jialin’s head, and Little Zi’s voice came through.

Saint Jialin finally felt relieved. So Little Zi had indeed been by his side all along, which calmed him a bit.

It was not far from the sleeping chamber to where the guards switched shifts. After all, as the Emperor’s personal guards, they could not be stationed too far away. Soon, Saint Jialin reached the guards’ resting area. Guards who had been resting were awakened by the flying Giant Dragons and left the rest area to look outside.

The guard who had just switched shifts with Saint Jialin approached confusedly, "Brother, weren’t you just serving His Majesty? How come you suddenly appeared here?"

Saint Jialin spread his hands and said, "Two Black Dragons just passed by and drove me out. How could I just walk away? It was the Emperor who allowed me to leave."

The guard nodded, then spoke sentimentally, "I’ve grown up hearing legends of dragons only from storybooks. I never thought I’d actually see so many dragons today."

"Sadly, these dragons are not our friends," Saint Jialin sighed.

"Why do you think these dragons are targeting Long Yi? Could they also be allies summoned by the Ancient Mage Tower?" the guard asked again.

"How could the lords of dragons possibly tell us that? Just stay here and wait for orders," said Saint Jialin.

"You’re right... let’s go in and rest. Although it initially felt novel to have so many Black Dragons revolving around us daily, we’ve gotten used to it by now," the guard said, shaking his head.

Leaving the Imperial City brazenly like this was absolutely not an option; every action required a solid reason. Otherwise, the moment a single flaw was revealed, it would lead to nothing but flaws.

A rumbling sound came from afar, it was the White Dragon’s Dragon Breath.

"It seems the Black Dragons are fighting something... too far to see clearly," a guard rushed in excitedly.

The guards who were about to rest instantly became electrified. The Black Dragons had taken over swiftly; people hadn’t even organized a decent resistance and had no idea of the true strength of the Black Dragons. Now that the Black Dragons had started fighting, even though it was unclear who they were fighting against, anyone daring to provoke Black Dragons must be recklessly bold, right?

The guards flew onto nearby buildings to look into the distance; indeed, bright beams of light were bombarding the bodies of the Black Dragons. At that moment, the attackers were beyond the range of the Black Dragons, who could only passively take the hits.

A guard pulled out a telescope from his personal space and also cast a Long-Distance Viewing Magic. With the dual effect, he finally saw what was happening in the distance.

"Is that... the White Dragon?" asked the guard with the telescope in surprise. The surrounding guards scrambled for the telescope, buzzing with discussion. By this time, half of the Imperial City’s Black Dragons had been alarmed and were flying towards the battlefield, leaving only a few at the Imperial Palace, and they showed no interest in what the guards were doing.

"So the enemy of the Black Dragons is the White Dragon?" a guard asked puzzledly to the person next to him.

"It shouldn’t be, after all, they’re both from the Dragon Clan," another guard responded.

These guards did not know about the batch of White Dragons Long Yi had acquired, so they assumed the Black Dragons had come here to pursue the White Dragons. However, Saint Jialin knew, so he was aware that this was Long Yi leading the White Dragon Legion into battle.

The telescope finally landed in his hands, and lifting it to his eyes, he just saw the White Dragons retreating and the Black Dragons continuing the chase.

"There are only a little over two hundred White Dragons; they are no match for the Black Dragons," said a guard.

"Isn’t that better? If the White Dragons are quickly eliminated, the Black Dragons will leave," another guard said.

"Who told you that?" Saint Jialin put down the telescope and countered the guard’s remark.

"Eh, just guessing, heh heh." The guard said sheepishly.

"In times like these, it’s better not to make such irresponsible remarks. No one knows what the Black Dragons have come to do, nor when they will leave, and we don’t even know if they are our enemies," Saint Jialin said.

"But they haven’t attacked us, have they? If they had launched an attack right at the start, our Imperial City would surely have been gone," the guard argued.

"Would you necessarily go and destroy an anthill when you pass by one while walking?" Saint Jialin asked.

"Hey brother, comparing our Imperial City to an anthill, the Emperor would be angered if he heard," the guard whispered, looking around.

"I think he wasn’t wrong," another guard spoke up. "You should know, the Dragon Clan was the second race personally created by the gods. Despite the Giants sealing their power, they remain immensely powerful, far beyond what we can contend with. It’s not unfounded for them to consider our Imperial City as nothing but an anthill. In any case, let’s not discuss this anymore and just wait for our orders patiently. I believe it won’t be long before everything becomes clear."

After the guard finished speaking, those around him fell silent. After all, they were merely guards, what more could they do?

In the far distance, at the very limit of visibility through a telescope, battle erupted once again. This time, it was quite apparent that some Black Dragons were being shot down. This caused a stir of shock among the guards, but by then, Saint Jialin had lost interest in watching any further. The events had unfolded too suddenly, leaving him no time to think, and now he needed time to reflect.

Giants, and Dragons. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Even though the Giants had once cursed the dragons to their present state, Dragons remained Dragons. But there was only one Giant like Long Yi. Could this one Giant really defeat the Dragons?

Saint Jialin didn’t know, and what would this Giant mean for him? If the Black Dragons’ target were not the White Dragon but himself, what then?

Such an event was not impossible, especially if the Dragon Clan failed to achieve their purpose—would they direct their anger towards him?

The battle moved further away and soon vanished from sight. The guards gradually returned. Some could barely contain their excitement, still discussing the recent battle, while others were anxious, worried about the future. Saint Jialin lay on a couch with his eyes closed in thought.

Time passed, and the Dragon Clan began to return gradually. The guards went out again to see and discovered that many Black Dragons were injured, mostly with burns left by the White Dragon’s breath. Some Black Dragons had their wings completely destroyed by the Dragon Breath and were being carried back by their comrades using magic.

Although human and dragon expressions differ, Saint Jialin could tell that the Black Dragons had clearly gained no advantage.

"It looks like they’ve lost," one guard said.

"I just hope we don’t end up unlucky," another guard added.

Saint Jialin, like a guard himself, stayed there for half a day. Although the angry Black Dragons roared all afternoon, they ultimately did nothing more. Come evening, with a change of guard shift, Saint Jialin went straight back to his own guard’s home.

Just as he arrived home and opened the door, he saw several people sitting in the room.

Long Yi, Ai Lin, Silverlight, Little Zi, and an unfamiliar old man.

"You see, I bet with you regarding his intelligence, he would certainly be able to escape on his own, right?" Little Zi said proudly to Long Yi.

"On my own? Weren’t you by my side?" Saint Jialin’s eyes widened in surprise.

"I left when the White Dragon and the Black Dragon began their battle. This whole afternoon has been all you," Little Zi said with a smile.

"You really trust me. What if I had slipped up?" At this point, Saint Jialin inexplicably broke out in a cold sweat.

"Firstly, for your own sake, you definitely wouldn’t have slipped up. Secondly, even if you let slip a few minor flaws, everyone there was your guard. You could just tell them, after all, it’s not a matter of life or death," Little Zi explained.

"This..." Saint Jialin helplessly shook his head. When he looked at Long Yi, his expression immediately became urgent. He approached Long Yi quickly as if it was their first meeting, seemingly nervous.

"What you suspect is true, you don’t need to ask," Long Yi stated plainly.

So, everything had a logical explanation. No wonder Long Yi was so powerful, no wonder he always came up with things that transcended eras, no wonder Long Yi was eager to enter the middle Plane.

"Then, your purpose here is..." Saint Jialin felt as if he was awaiting a royal decree, waiting for Long Yi to speak.

"I have no special intentions. If you know about the Giant Pioneers, you should know that the Pioneers’ abilities are very limited. I just simply want to enter the middle Plane," Long Yi explained.

Your abilities are still very limited? Saint Jialin’s mind immediately recalled all the events that had occurred with Long Yi, none of which seemed to relate to being ’very limited’ at all.

"Anyway, you’ll help me, right?" Long Yi didn’t explain much but directly asked this.

"Of course! I will undoubtedly be your staunchest ally!" Saint Jialin declared. If there had been any hesitation initially, by now his conviction was utterly firm. This was a big gamble. If won, he would have a Giant ally who could do anything! And if lost...

No, he simply couldn’t lose!

The sudden appearance of the Black Dragons had caught Long Yi off guard, but amid various chaos, he had still managed to rescue Saint Jialin, which slightly reassured him. Currently, the Black Dragons were confined within The Divine Auffa Empire and were relatively peaceful, but no one knew how long this peace would last.

Meanwhile, Long Yi also wanted to take advantage of this temporary peace to figure out what exactly this Solis was all about. (To be continued.
