Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Intimate Whispers

Zoe Pierce hadn’t expected Chase Shaw’s sensitive period to last so many days.

For a whole week, he had used his sensitive period as an excuse to skip the academy. Meanwhile, Zoe Pierce had to attend her classes during the day, only to return at night and be swept into his arms to do... things.

Lying limply in Chase Shaw’s arms once again, Zoe Pierce felt that something was off.

Pushing against his chest to keep them from being too close, Zoe Pierce frowned at him. "Chase, your spirit sea doesn’t seem as turbulent as it was a few days ago."

The change had started a few days prior, but it had been subtle.

It was only upon touching him again today that Zoe Pierce felt something was truly amiss.

Compared to before, his spirit sea had been remarkably stable for the past two days.

Chase Shaw was silent, merely tucking the blanket tighter around her.

It dawned on Zoe Pierce in an instant. He could have controlled his sensitive period long ago; he simply had no intention of doing so.

And she had fallen right into his trap, always being considerate of the discomfort from his sensitive period and indulging him because of it.

Which was why she was only just now realizing something was wrong.

She was both angry and amused, but it wasn’t worth fighting with Chase Shaw over this.

A young man who’s just gotten his hands on the person he likes is naturally going to have no idea what self-control is.

Even she couldn’t say she disliked it entirely.

It was just... exhausting.

"Zoe, we only have three months," Chase Shaw said in a husky voice when he sensed she was getting a little angry. "I want to pull you into doing this with me every single day."

It was because of this time limit that his desire to have her all to himself had become so intense.

He had already fought and scrambled for it.

But it still wasn’t enough.

She had even rejected his offer for them to ride in the same car alone.

Zoe Pierce’s heart softened. With just that one sentence from him, most of her anger dissipated.

Ultimately, it came down to her own inability to firmly reject any of them.

"But I’m just so tired, Chase," Zoe Pierce couldn’t help but sigh. ’Even if I like it, it can’t go on like this.’

She subconsciously ignored how clingy she herself was during her own heat.

Now that her heat was over, it was like she wanted to put on her pants and pretend nothing happened.

Chase Shaw glanced down at her fair, tender body. Because she had a physical exam coming up, she had been so demanding as to forbid him from leaving any hickeys.

The mark he had left on her collarbone last time had already faded to the point of being invisible.

"I know," Chase Shaw said, despite his reluctance.

Zoe Pierce leaned against Chase Shaw’s chest and shared the news she had recently heard. "Director Quinn said we might be enlisted early next semester."

Chase Shaw wasn’t surprised to hear this. It didn’t affect him much, as the Alphas had known about it for a while.

The last time Director Quinn brought it up, it was to prepare Zoe Pierce for it.

After all, there was no precedent for an Omega enlisting early.

After a moment of thought, Chase Shaw ran a hand through Zoe Pierce’s hair. "The military has been placing a lot of Mecha orders these past few years."

Things always start small and grow larger. At first, Chase Shaw only noticed an increase in Mecha orders for the border, but now he could keenly sense the problem. "The Xenobeast Tides are more frequent than in previous years."

Zoe Pierce added thoughtfully, "And the military academies are expanding enrollment."

Expanding enrollment at a military academy was different from other schools; every new spot had to be for a specific position.

They had just held friendly competitions not long ago, so it was unlikely The Empire was about to go to war.

Combined with the other information, the only remaining possibility was the Xenobeast Tide.

"So, in the future, we might face a period of frequent Xenobeast Tides." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Times were likely to become turbulent.

Zoe Pierce turned on her side. "I never thought I’d end up on the front lines."

After transmigrating here, she had been, at best, a slightly more intelligent-than-average person. She’d been lucky enough to have parents who loved her and to get into a school that seemed promising.

But she never imagined she would become the person she was today.

The person who was once protected on the Capital Star was now becoming someone who protected others.

Chase Shaw knew Zoe Pierce wasn’t afraid. She had killed plenty of Xenobeasts herself and had flown high-speed sprints with them in the sky.

"It’s just... the feeling is pretty good," Zoe Pierce said.

"At first, I only thought about using this power for self-preservation. But I’ve gradually realized I can do so much more."

"Last time on Planet B36, I wanted to go with you all."

Back then, she had to wait because she couldn’t expose her abilities, but now she no longer had that concern.

Chase Shaw squeezed her fingers, causing Zoe Pierce to look up at him again.

"We’ll go together this time."

"I won’t leave you waiting alone again."

Zoe Pierce’s lips curved into a smile she couldn’t suppress. "Okay."

...

In the days that followed, Chase Shaw reined himself in, and Zoe Pierce found her life becoming noticeably more comfortable.

It seemed like everything was getting back on track.

The physical exam was scheduled for Monday.

Over the weekend, the group came over to the house where Zoe Pierce was now living.

They had all designed it together, but after just over a week, the house had accumulated some of an Alpha’s belongings.

For instance, a white shirt draped over the sofa.

Its large size made it instantly recognizable as Chase Shaw’s.

At first, the others didn’t think much of it, but as they walked past the sofa, they all paused.

Aaron Xavier walked right over, picked up the shirt, and held it to his nose.

First came the strong scent of freesia, followed by the smell of Cedar.

Before he could put the shirt down, Zoe Pierce spotted him.

Her fair face flushed red in an instant. She strode over and tried to snatch the shirt away.

She tugged, but it didn’t budge. Looking up, she saw Aaron Xavier staring at her with his light brown eyes.

"Zoe," he said, making her heart race with panic.

"Do you usually wear Chase’s clothes around the house?"

The scent on the shirt was too strong to ignore, and it confirmed that she hadn’t been wearing a suppression patch when she wore it.

Zoe Pierce tugged again. "Let go first."

Miles Sherman and Nathan Lockwood inevitably caught the scent as well.

Although they all knew what would happen when Chase Shaw and Zoe Pierce were left alone in the house, a small thing like this was still enough to provoke them.

"I won’t. You answer me first." ’I really can’t underestimate any of them,’ Aaron Xavier thought. ’They all have so many tricks up their sleeves. It’s truly a sight to behold.’

"I don’t *always* wear his clothes." ’Just occasionally,’ she thought.

She would have been better off saying nothing. Her words only made the three men’s gazes darken.

If she only wore it occasionally, and it still carried this scent, then when exactly did she wear it?

Aaron Xavier released the shirt, watching as Zoe Pierce hastily took it and tossed it to a robot.

The three men watched her from behind, and Zoe Pierce felt their gazes on her back like needles.

Only after confirming there was nothing else suggestive in the living room did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.

But as if he couldn’t stand seeing Zoe Pierce relax, the moment she sat down, Aaron Xavier spoke up. "Zoe, you said you’d reward me if I behaved, you know."

"Don’t forget."
