Chapter 585: Inheritance [II]
Both Adelaide and Arthur are curious and also interested in whatever the God of Farming is currently proposing to them. Even if this is technically fishy in the first place, the allure of saving their mother from a coma is too good to pass up. For both Adelaide and Arthur who still blame themselves for the incident, they would gladly even form a contract with a demon if given a chance.
"[Based on your looks, it looks like everyone is in agreement that they will be undergoing the chance to save Elaina from her current situation]" the parrot said, and the twins steeled themselves for whatever demand the parrot would give.
"Are there any consequences for this? Like, are we supposed to sacrifice our lives or something like that?" Arthur asked.
The parrot panicked. "[What the...! Hey, I will be beaten half to death by your mother if I actually do that. Please, do not think of it that way, and it isn’t too hard to be honest. Let’s just say...the two of you will inherit something from Elaina. She didn’t give it up, but in her current state, she just can’t use it. So, for this, the two of you will be inheriting what Elaina has been using since she earned this farm. In short...you will inherit her power and also the task of taking care of the farm work.]"
Both Adelaide and Arthur are surprised. Inheriting a power that their Mother owns while working through the fields? She has that kind of power?
"What power is this, by the way?" Adelaide asked.
The parrot chuckled. "Do I really need to tell you in advance what power you will inherit? Doesn’t that break the surprise factor there?"
"Do you really need to surprise us? I mean, isn’t helping our mother the top priority here?" Arthur grumbled.
"[Patience, Arthur. patience. Besides, are you two ready to take over the job that your mother has been doing for years? Inheriting her power also means inheriting her overall work.]"
Adelaide nodded. "My brother might be a bit of all brawn most of the time, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help out. We twins are siblings for a reason. We complement what we lack. Even if taking over Mother’s job will also suggest that we will stop what we usually do in favor of the job our Mother does, then we will gladly give it up if it means we can wake her up."
The parrot chuckles. "There is plenty of time to learn her job. And besides, the two of you are capable of doing this job. Elaina herself says so."
The two looked at each other, not sure what he meant.
"[Well, should we talk about the inheritance now? You two will be inheriting the same abilities. If you two are in agreement, touch the bird in front of you and close both of your eyes as I bestow the blessing.]"
The two looked at each other again before they nodded in agreement. This time, they decided it is indeed time.
Extending their hands, they both touched the parrot, and both of them closed their eyes. With that, the God of Farming knew they agreed to the task. Channelling his abilities to the parrot, the power that the two had not experienced before started to surge inside their bodies. The power was strong, and both tried their best to hold it in. However, both of them collapsed as soon as the power of Elaina was given to them. As for the parrot, any traces that it was present there are all now gone, leaving behind the twins unconscious on the ground.
....
....
....
"...up. Wake....now...
A familiar female voice echoed in Adelaide’s ears. A voice that she is very familiar with.
"Nn?" Adelaide slowly opens her eyes. She is still lying on the ground with Arthur currently on the side, still unconscious.
Adelaide quickly rushed towards Arthur and lightly slapped his cheek to wake him up.
"Arthy, wake up. Come on, wake up!"
Arthur slowly opened his eyes and groaned. "Ade?"
"Wake up. It seems both of us collapsed after we touched that parrot."
"Ugh...wait...right. The parrot...the inheritance...AH! The inheritance, what happened to the inheritance?" Arthur quickly got up and almost panicked.
"Hey, calm down, Arthur. I am still trying to figure that out myself as well."
Just as the two were standing, a book appeared in front of them. Two books, in fact.
"What the...?!" The two were surprised by the floating book, something they had never seen before.
"[Don’t be too surprised now, kids. This is just the almanac. Both of you should familiarize on it, as this will be the power that you two will be wielding from now on.]"
The two got startled. After all, that voice came from the book. But the book’s voice is none other than their Mother, Elaina.
"Mother?! Is that really you?" Adelaide immediately recognized the voice. She is not even confused; she is just not sure what happened and why they are currently speaking with their Mother when she is unconscious at the moment.
"[Relax, Ade. You too, Arthy. Just because I am unconscious right now doesn’t mean I can no longer talk. Before the two of you will be able to get the chance to save me in the process, you needed to get used to me in this matter. After all, the God of Farming is gracious enough to provide the support needed for the two of you to get this power.]"
Arthur carressed the book in front of him with awe and confusion. "Is this the power that you wield, Mother? The one that green bird is saying that we will be inheriting from you?"
"[Yes, that is correct. Though, I wouldn’t say this is even power since you don’t gain any power from this book, just a guide. Treat it as some sort of tutorial manual for both of you. Go on, you two. Open the book and check the contents. According to the God of Farming, all of my progress should be carried over to the two of you.]"
Adelaide is the first to open the Almanac, and the book shows multiple entries in the glossary, mostly on the farm plants.
"Is this information regarding the plants on the farm? And these... is this how to farm properly? These things, are they meant for us?" Adelaide asked. The tutorial there is showing the step-by-step on how to farm properly.
Elaina seems to agree. "[Correct. I made the God of Farming add this tutorial, which is based on my experience. These should help out on how to begin farming with the fields.]"
"Wait, Mom. I am a bit confused. Does that mean our task to reawaken your body is for us to farm?" Arthur frowned. He couldn’t connect how it was even connected.
"[Yep. Although I am currently in the dark on the process, according to the God of Farming, you two needed to learn how to farm first before the first task to reawaken me should be issued. Otherwise, the task itself will not be fulfilled without the two of you learning this.]"
Although not sure if what she said is true, it only means one thing. Their farming experience with the guidance of their Mother inside the Almanac is only the beginning.
