Chapter 367: Chapter 360: She Wants to Ask Him Why He Harmed Her Back Then
Seth Quinn feigned helplessness and threw up his hands. "Alas, what can be done? We’re already married."
Clara Grant shot him a glare. "What’s that supposed to mean? You regret marrying me, is that it?"
Seeing she was taking him seriously, Seth Quinn gave another helpless smile. He reached out, gently booped her on the nose, and said, "I’m just teasing you, you silly girl. Don’t forget, I was the one who shamelessly insisted you marry me. How could I possibly regret it? So, you don’t have to worry about whether other people like you or not. You just have to know that you have me, and everything will be okay."
Clara Grant pursed her lips as she looked at him. ’He said I have him, and everything will be okay.’
All at once, she wasn’t nervous anymore. ’With this man by my side, ready to shield me from the wind and rain, what is there left to fear?’
And so, she smiled silently and nodded at him.
Suddenly, a phone rang. Clara Grant pulled out her cell and saw it was a call from her mother, Skylar Hayes. She answered it and said, "Mom."
Skylar Hayes answered as she walked, "Yes?" then said, "Clara, I wanted to ask if you and Seth are free to come home for dinner today. I’m heading out to buy groceries now, so if you’re free to come, I’ll buy a little extra."
Skylar Hayes had stepped out to buy groceries and had suddenly recalled the look of pure satisfaction on her daughter’s face two days ago while eating her home-cooked food. On a whim, she thought she’d call and ask.
Besides, Clara was heading back to the set in two days, and Skylar wanted to cook a few more meals for her.
"There’s no need, Mom. Right now..." Clara Grant said, then glanced instinctively at Seth Quinn. "Seth Quinn and I are on our way to the Quinn Family’s home."
"Oh, Seth is taking you to meet his parents at the Quinn Family home?" Skylar Hayes sounded delighted. ’After meeting the parents, the next step will be to announce their marriage, won’t it?’
’It would be good to make it public. Then I wouldn’t have to keep pretending I didn’t know they were already married.’
While talking, Skylar Hayes walked up to a traffic light and stood waiting for it to change. "Okay, okay, that’s wonderful. You two go ahead, then."
"I’m sorry, Mom. I can’t have dinner with you today," Clara Grant said, a little disappointed.
"What’s there to be sorry about? If not today, then next time. Meeting your in-laws is more important..." Skylar Hayes chuckled. She glanced up absently at the traffic light across the road, and a figure suddenly swam into her vision. The words died in her mouth, and her smile froze on her face.
’It’s him!’
’The man I’d recognize even if he were nothing but ash!’
Skylar Hayes instinctively bolted across the street, paying no mind to the fact that the light was still red and cars were still speeding by.
’I have only one thought: I have to catch that man and ask him why he destroyed me back then!’
Clara Grant, on the other end of the line, heard her mother’s voice cut off mid-sentence, replaced by sudden silence. She called out instinctively a few times, but there was no answer, though the call was still connected.
Clara Grant started to get worried. Just as she was about to call out again, a piercing sound suddenly blared through the phone. She heard it clearly—it was the screech of tires as a car slammed on its brakes.
Clara Grant’s heart skipped a beat. Her voice rose in panic as she shouted, "Mom! Mom, what’s wrong? Are you okay? Don’t scare me!"
Seeing that something was wrong, Seth Quinn quickly pulled the car over to the side of the road. He looked at her and asked, "What’s wrong?"
"I don’t know. Mom was in the middle of a sentence and her voice just... cut out. And I heard the sound of brakes..." As Clara Grant spoke, a clamor of noisy background sounds came through the earpiece. Her voice began to tremble. "Seth, you don’t think Mom could have..."
Just as she said that, a response suddenly came from the other end of the line. But it was a man’s voice.
