Chapter 67: Apocalypse 5

[I have always been curious about creatures and beasts. I always thought to myself. What would it look like to have orcs roaming the streets, lizardmen building armies and running down humans, Zombies devouring brains, Chimeras slicing and cutting people open as they run and scream]

The sweet feminine voice echoed through the expanse of the town, laying in contrast to the twisted thoughts it voiced.

The faces of the heroes went pale, faces twisting with frowns.

"This girl is sick! Who wants something like that?!" One of the heroes exploded in anger, her frustration palpable.

They had already faced countless beasts, but they kept spawning endlessly.

At this point, they could only hide within the houses to rest for some time, as it was already late. They also did this, so they could plan on how they would get to the impure behind the mess.

"Quiet down, or you’ll attract the lizard men. We don’t want that" the lady closest to him hushed him.

"Please calm down, we’ll get to the end of this issue soon. Everyone just needs to cooperate" Nectron said as he stood in front of the group.

"Whatever Impure is responsible for this has to be within this town, so we should be able to get to them and stop them. There is only one problem we need to face, and that’s how to find them, in a town as large as this" Nectron said letting out a sigh of disappointment, even he didn’t know how to run around that.

"I can use my plagued weapon" A lady leaning on the wall said calmly.

All heads turned toward her. She wore a sleek battle suit crafted from interwoven black and ash-gray panels that hugged her figure like a second skin.

A stylized musical note was emblazoned at the center of her chest, standing out against the dark material. Silky black hair cascaded over her shoulders, softening the otherwise imposing image.

As they turned to her, she raised the flute in her hand, "I can use my plagued flute to sense impures, we can check each part of the town and I’ll be able to track the impure"

"I didn’t know you could do that. But that’s definitely a good idea." another hero said with surprise.

They all looked at her nodding their heads, they were surprised by what her plagued instrument was capable of.

Plagued weapons and instruments were born from desires tied to specific objects, so the ability was manifested based on that.

In the hands of another, a plagued instrument would be useless, but in the hands of its true owner, it could manifest an ability.

Melody used her plagued flute to captivate audiences. With it her targets were left in an entranced state.

However, due to her lack of physical prowess she always had to work with someone who would then finish up the job.

Everyone seemed to be satisfied with her suggestion, and it they could most certainly find the impure in no time.

"I think there’s something else we have to worry about" Selena who was leaning on the side of the wall staring out through the window said.

They all turned towards her, "What might that be?" Nectron asked.

"These creatures... They aren’t just appearing anywhere, it seems they’re appearing closer to the impure and then spreading through the town"

"So are you implying that we’re likely to face a larger number of beasts the closer we get to the impure?"

"Exactly, and we definitely don’t know what next she could think up. For now it’s just minor beast, but we never know what we can meet there. It’ll be hard to prepare if she suddenly calls on something too powerful"

All the heroes paused taking in the weight of Selena’s words.

They could track down the impure, but that didn’t mean they could get to it easily.

Charging in blindly could potentially lead to all their deaths, if the Impure summoned a powerful beast.

Selena on the other hand had her thoughts drifting into the horizon as she stared down through the window, ’Where’d that brat go, he just disappeared and didn’t come back... Did he see something? But Vixen came back, did a beast cut him off?’ Selena’s hands curled into a tight fist as she kept thinking up different scenarios.

’You better stay alive cause you have an explanation to do, you can’t just disappear on me like that!’ Selena thought, her brows knitting in anger, but underneath a strong sense of worry lingered.

Laying by the side of the wall, Nicholas felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up he quickly glanced around, watching for any immediate danger, but didn’t see any.

’Maybe it’s just the wind’ He thought as he let out a sigh. He didn’t expect his poor stats distribution to bring him down for so long.

After the fight with the Kamacura, they’d stayed in the store resting up for hours.

He needed all the energy he could get, and now he felt well rested.

He seemed to have recovered his stamina faster than he’d expected.

Turning to his side he could see Julie sleeping with a sound snore, ’And she was meant to guard the place’ Nicholas let out a disappointed sigh as he stood up.

Julie jolted, "Please don’t kill me! You can kill the guy instead!" She turned to point at Nicholas who was by her side, but realized he wasn’t there, she turned her gaze back to the person standing, her eyes focusing, "Oh... Phantom. hehe." Julie went into an awkward laughter staring at Nicholas in front of her, "I saw a monster in my dream,"

Nicholas looked at her raising a brow, "Yeah sure, it was definitely a monster in your dream." Julie’s survival instincts were perhaps even stronger than his.

The way she switched up when her life was on the line, she needed an award for that.

Julie scratched her head, "What are you doing, where are you going?"

"I want to go find the impure that’s causing this mess, kill it and go home" Nicholas replied bluntly.

"Well, that makes sense, but I think you’ll have to face a lot of beasts to get to the main boss"

"Then I’ll kill them as well" Nicholas replied as he casually walked towards the door.

’Yes yes! Phantom is the best! I can get more shots of him killing more beast, my subs will spike and I’m sure BBC might ask to stream me again!... Wait I shouldn’t be thinking about that, shouldn’t I tell him to rest and recover, yes, I need to do that’

"You should rest, it’s night time"

"I work better at night. Besides I think I’ve gotten enough rest, except you want to rest yourself"

"No! There’s definitely no way I’m missing out on peak cinema! I’m tagging along" Julie sprang up from her position picking up her camera.

’She’s overly energetic and only cares about streaming’ Nicholas thought walking out of the store, ’but I get to gain charm points through her and money too, makes her a useful person to have around. That said, I need to get enough charm points to balance my stats and end this mission once and for all’

But just as they stepped out, the voice rang again.

[I’ve always wondered what an apocalypse would look like. If zombies were real how would humans survive.... I want Zombies]

Nicholas stopped walking.

For the first time since entering the veil, he felt a genuine headache coming, ’I have to find this bastard’
