Chapter 405: Apologies and Ordinary Days
"Found you. It’s almost snack time, you know? Qiong Xing was calling for you."
"Already? Let’s go, let’s go~"
This was not a habit he had grown up with, but the snacks Qiong Xing made were always delicious, and even Iseul often joined the children to eat with them.
"I wonder what we’ll have today~?"
"Roar~ Roar~."
"Hm? You want your Uncle?"
When Lingxiao reached out toward Raon, Raon offered his arms, and Lingxiao happily clung to him, unexpectedly patting his cheeks repeatedly.
Even while complaining that it hurt and telling him to stop, Raon did not put him down, unable to resist how adorable he was.
"You’re really likes your Uncle Raon, huh."
"Is, is that so?"
Raon was not shy by nature, but compared to Joa and the others, Lingxiao seemed particularly attached to him.
Even if he could not honestly say he was happy about it, the faint redness on Raon’s cheeks showed otherwise.
"Well, the number one is Qiong Xing, of course."
"Then the second is Lian. That makes you third?"
"Shut up. I’m the dad, so I’m obviously second."
Iseul then asked, "Right, Lingxiao?" but the one being addressed did not respond.
Instead, he seemed to be having fun and headbutted Raon’s chest again.
As expected of his own child, he was a mystery.
"What are you trying to do? You’re as restless as your son."
"Hey? Is that my fault? It’s because he’s a kid, right?"
Compared to Joa and the others, Iseul might be less composed, but even he would never randomly headbutt someone like that.
"...The last time I saw you headbutting a tree in the yard, I thought you had lost your mind."
"Did that happen?"
Apparently, there was even a prior offense.
Iseul did not remember it himself, but when he was still very young, he had apparently behaved just like Lingxiao, happily patting a thick tree trunk before suddenly laughing and headbutting it.
Raon had been so shocked by the strange behavior that he froze, and apparently even screamed when he saw the blood on his forehead.
It was quite a terrifying childhood behavior, yet Iseul himself had no memory of it.
"Please, at least let him take after Qiong Xing in that regard."
"Roar~?"
But Lingxiao only tilted his head at Raon’s earnest wish.
"Qiong Xing is... well, not exactly like that. He’s just a bit absent-minded, not stupid."
"Hey, are you just calling me stupid?"
Was that not going too far for siblings?
"Put your hand on your chest and think carefully. You are... a fool."
That was brutally direct.
Though perhaps it was because Iseul himself did not care all that much.
"Hey, but Qiong Xing said you and I are similar. Doesn’t that mean you’re a fool too?"
Raon immediately protested, saying it was unfair for only him to be called that.
Iseul did not deny it, but made a very bitter expression.
"...If that’s what you think, then you’d better pray even harder that he takes after Qiong Xing."
"Hahaha, yeah. Good luck, Lingxiao."
"You should try too. Don’t neglect your child."
At Raon’s precise retort, Iseul laughed out loud.
Their casual brotherly conversation no longer carried the same tension it once had.
Now, there was room to simply enjoy it as something pleasant.
Family.
Iseul had once felt uneasy at the thought of having none.
The impatience of depending only on his older brother.
The inability to understand what he should do and the way it made him unable to treat others kindly.
But now...
"Let’s do our best together, Lingxiao."
"Myu~?"
"Where did the ’Roar~ Roar~’ go?"
With his adorable son, his beloved Qiong Xing, and his brother who was both nagging and worryingly kind.
What he had gained was irreplaceable.
"Come on, let’s show Mama too. We’ll say, ’Look, it’s a cool dragon, right?’"
"Roar~ Roar~!"
"Hey, is there any point in doing that in human form?"
"It’s cute, so it’s fine. Qiong Xing will definitely be happy too."
Knowing him, he would surely smile and praise them, saying they did well.
As Iseul pushed at Raon’s back, eager to go, Raon scolded him, saying it was dangerous.
...
It was rare enough to make Qiong Xing widen his eyes in surprise.
"I came to apologize. My subordinates were at fault the other day. That was my misjudgment."
"..."
Qiong Xing could not help but think, this man can actually apologize properly.
Since Hui had been born safely, Qiong Xing had come to help Sergei again after a long time, partly as a greeting.
But not even a few minutes after arriving, Narka had burst into the room with enough force to kick the door open and immediately apologized.
Even Sergei, the master of the room, had stopped in shock.
"Long time no see."
"Huh? Ah... yeah."
Qiong Xing spoke first, since the apology had skipped all greetings.
Narka responded, still looking confused, as if unsure what to prioritize.
Wondering what to do next, Qiong Xing glanced at Sergei, who let out a long sigh and motioned for Narka to sit down.
"How is Rohen doing?"
"He’s fine. He gets scolded every day, but he’s doing well."
Qiong Xing had worried he might be depressed, but it seemed he was doing alright.
Deciding the timing was good, they took a break together, and Qiong Xing brewed tea and distributed it to Albe and the others as well.
"Thanks for letting him bring back all those souvenirs, by the way."
Qiong Xing had thought it might be unnecessary interference, but it seemed they had been enjoyed.
"So... what happened to him?"
"He quit. I asked around the others too. It’s turned out he had a bad attitude and was skipping training as well. When I trained him personally, he quit in less than a day."
"I see."
As expected, he had been nothing more than a man full of empty words.
"Well, that aside... it seems Rohen was also... well, problematic in his own way. I’m sorry about that too."
He looked down at Narka as he bowed his head toward Qiong Xing.
