Chapter 404: A House Full of Love
"Aren’t you tired? Why don’t you take a break for a bit?"
Raon walked over and handed Qiong Xing some water.
Qiong Xing thanked him and sat down on a nearby chair.
He had not actually been moving around that much.
Even so, once he finally stopped, he realized he was more exhausted than he had expected.
It seemed his body still had not fully recovered yet.
"Wait, wait~"
"Kyaa!"
Qiong Xing smiled at the sight of Lingxiao happily running away.
Maybe Iseul was also starting to act more like a proper father.
"Raon."
"What?"
"Switch."
When Qiong Xing asked him to take Hui who he had been holding the entire time Raon accepted without hesitation.
In fact, he even looked somewhat pleased.
Seeing that expression made Qiong Xing happy, realizing that Raon also truly welcomed Hui’s birth.
Unlike Albe, Raon was rather shy, so he could not easily say things like wanting to hold the baby himself.
Sometimes he would glance over repeatedly, which Qiong Xing found amusing.
"...What a quiet child."
"Yes. I’m actually relieved it’s easier to manage."
The small beast ears that twitched occasionally, inherited from Leander, were soothing just to look at.
"Which is cuter, Lingxiao or Hui?"
"....."
Raon fell silent at the question.
Qiong Xing laughed out loud at that reaction.
Of course he could not possibly choose between them, and it seemed Raon was seriously thinking about it.
Lingxiao, as his younger brother’s child, was undeniably adorable.
But Hui who is sleeping peacefully with her little ears twitching was just as irresistible.
"From now on, I’m counting on you, Unc
le Raon."
Those words were not only about helping raise the children, but also about what would happen to them in the future, after Qiong Xing was no longer around.
"You’re overworking yourself. Just how many kids do you expect me to look after?"
Raon complained, but Qiong Xing knew he was actually pleased.
Iseul had once told him that Raon just like him had longed for a family of his own.
"He just doesn’t say it because he’s the older brother. The one who’s actually happiest about having a family is him."
After losing their parents, losing their comrades, and never being able to show weakness in front of his younger brother, Raon had carried his loneliness and desire for family alone.
Qiong Xing could not become Raon’s mate, but as family, he could still help fill what Raon had been missing.
"I’m really glad you’re here, Raon. I was worried about Iseul too, but more than anything I was worried about Lingxiao."
Qiong Xing smiled as he spoke of how much he relied on him.
Raon looked slightly embarrassed, turning his face away, but still nodded as if to say there was nothing he could do about it.
"Wait, wait, wait~!"
Qiong Xing smiled as he watched Iseul and the others still happily running around.
"Wait, wai... ah!"
At that moment, Lingxiao who is still unsteady on his feet turned around to look for Papa and tangled his own legs, falling over.
Raon seemed to have witnessed the exact moment.
The area fell silent and the next instant—
"Aaaahhhーー, mama, aaahh!"
Lingxiao burst into loud crying.
Iseul panicked and tried to hold him, but he could not calm down and looked completely at a loss.
"So energetic."
"Too carefree! Is Lingxiao hurt? Did he hit his face?"
Raon rushed over in a panic as Lingxiao kept crying.
Qiong Xing watched him, thinking he really was dependable.
However, in his rush, Raon had forgotten something very important.
"Lingxiao, are you hurt anywhe—"
"Waaah!"
"H, Huu!? Ah, s-sorry. W-wait a moment, I—"
"Ahh! Mama!"
That was right.
Raon was still holding Hui in his arms, and the combined sound of Lingxiao’s loud crying and Raon’s voice had woken her up, making her cry as well.
And as if that were not enough, the commotion drew everyone inside the house over to see what was happening.
"What are you doing making them cry?"
"Me!? I didn’t—"
"More importantly, put Huu down."
Hui, who would not stop crying, was taken by Leander, while Raon was scolded by Albe for not knowing what he had done.
Qiong Xing watched them and thought Raon looked both unfortunate and endearing.
He was diligent, but things tended to go wrong for him in a strange way.
"Lingxiao, it’s okay. You’re not hurt—"
"Waaahhh!"
On the other side, his son was also proving difficult to calm down, flailing and slapping Lingxiao’s face repeatedly.
"Isn’t it funny how siblings can be so alike even when they seem so different?"
"They really do resemble each other more than you’d think."
Albe nodded with Hui in his arms who had finally stopped crying.
"Roar~ Roar~~"
"Hahahaha, so cute, so cute."
Qiong Xing could not help but laugh at his son who was making dragon-like sounds despite being in human form.
He did not remember anything from his own childhood, but perhaps his parents had felt the same way.
"Lingxiao, come here."
"Roar~~"
When his name was called, Lingxiao smiled and ran into his arms.
Qiong Xing caught him and held him tightly, happy at the contact.
"You’re getting better at walking. Next time, shall we go for a walk outside with Mama?"
"Roar~?"
He still had a long way to go before he resembled the figure seen in that dream, but being able to see this adorable present version of him was more than enough.
This was the family he had always wanted.
His own child.
He had wanted it, yet when told it would actually happen, he had felt scared and overwhelmed.
He had worried whether he could properly be a father and had ended up confusing Leander with his anxiety.
But now, seeing his child in his arms, his heart was full.
This is my child.
Leander often called the children his treasure, and now Qiong Xing truly understood that feeling.
The child he had with his precious mates was indeed his treasure as well.
"I love you, Lingxiao."
"Roar~!"
Although he still barely understood words, Lingxiao nodded with a confident-sounding cry, making Qiong Xing laugh.
