Chapter 295: No Trouble

Kaelis was relieved to know that the dragon was flying high and mostly around Skyreach, so most floating islands probably hadn’t seen it. If they had, there would have been chaos.

He watched as the dragon danced for a bit longer, blotting the sky completely, as if the riders wanted to intimidate the watchers, as if they wanted everyone to know what kind of power they held.

Finally, the moment he was dreading and anticipating at the same time came. The dragon grew larger and larger as it flew closer to Skyreach before landing in the clearing with a powerful thump.

Fortunately, this red dragon was smaller than most Kaelis had heard about, so nothing happened to the island. Otherwise, the older and bigger ones could decimate the islands with their size and weight alone.

As he faced the wild bursts of wind forming because of the dragon’s wings, Kaelis composed himself and ordered everyone to stay back. They were happy to do so.

Then, he went forward, his heart still beating in fear. Nobody could blame him. After all, he was facing creatures that evoked primal fear in everyone.

Finally, the dragon relaxed and sat down, which allowed Kaelis to properly see the dragon and its riders. His brows shot upwards upon seeing the Dragon Riders.

’So young? And what’s an elf doing on a dragon?’

Kaelis went closer, and he could finally make out their features properly. His eyes widened in shock as he stared at the young man’s bright golden eyes and deep black hair.

’H-He...’

Then, his eyes fell upon the elf, and noticing her features, a terrifying thought crossed his mind. Remembering the news he had been receiving from the Grand Solar Empire, he was very sure he was right.

He swallowed hard and approached them. He watched as the young man helped the elf lady get down to the ground and felt his stomach churning.

’The last Valerian! The next Supreme of House Valeria himself is here. And the Princess of Elves is with him.’

Kaelis didn’t know if it was a good thing or not, but he knew for sure that either of them could destroy or take over his nation and he wouldn’t even be able to resist.

These two stood at the top of the world, having the strongest forces backing them. If he offended them, then no one in this entire world could save him.

So, he was very careful, as myriads of thoughts passed through his head in the time he crossed the short distance to reach them, all to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid.

He approached and bowed. "Welcome to the Chainbound Sky, my lord, my lady."

Now, Kaelis just hoped everything went well because the future of the entire Chainbound Sky depended on him.

Meanwhile, Aegon stared at the middle-aged man, clearly too exhausted and not in good shape, and smiled, "You must be Administrator Kaelis. There’s no need to bow, as we’re the guests here. I apologise for not informing you in advance."

"Ah! It is not a problem," Kaelis hurriedly shook his head, smiling as he was happy that Aegon was easier to talk to. "It is my honour to have the two of you as my guests."

Aegon noticed him stealing glances at Virginia but didn’t say anything about it. Not everyone was comfortable seeing a dragon landing in their home.

"No, I should have informed you," Aegon said, gesturing at the other people. "I didn’t mean to cause trouble here, but I guess I did. Unfortunately, I planned this later and couldn’t inform you."

He patted Virginia’s back and told her, "You can fly around or do whatever you want. I’ll call you when we’re heading back."

Virginia nudged him a little, then flew off again, finally making the atmosphere less tense. Her presence alone had been making everyone tremble in fear.

Turning back to Kaelis, he said, "I’ve heard great things about Chainbound Sky and have to say it lives up to my expectations. I came here with my fiancée."

A look of shock briefly appeared in Kaelis’s eyes as he quickly said, "Wonderful. Just wonderful. You made the right call, my lord. My home will serve you well."

"Haha! There’s no need to trouble yourself," Aegon chuckled and said. "We’ll explore it ourselves. That’s the fun of it, don’t you think? I want to see its natural state and enjoy it."

"Are you sure?" Kaelis came closer and asked. "I can make some arrangements for you."

"As I said, there’s no need for that," Aegon said, glancing at Elara. "I’m sure she also wants that."

"Please, Administrator Kaelis. There’s really no need to trouble anyone," Elara said, her voice polite yet carrying the silent regal pressure of royalty.

Aegon had to admit he could never develop something like that.

"If you say so," Kaelis took out a green flat token and said. "Then, please accept this at least. It’s my token, and just by showing it, you’ll get every service and thing in Chainbound Sky for free."

Aegon wanted to refuse, but a gentle nudge from Elara made him sigh as he said, "Alright, but that’s it. We’re tourists here, so just consider us as that. Also, if you don’t mind..."

Aegon clicked his fingers, and the bright morning world seemed to dim visibly, a chill passing through everyone’s nerves as they all straightened up.

Darkness flooded the Skyreach island as shadows deeper than the abyss rose, towering over every single one of them. The world seemed to grow darker with their presence, as if they were devouring the sunlight itself.

As the Vayrins shivered under their malevolent gaze, all of their attention went towards the two people who seemed like the light of hope, the ones who were bright even in a world of darkness.

"Since you’ve already guessed our identity, you should know the dangers we often find ourselves in simply because of who we are," Aegon said, trying to keep his tone relaxed. "This is for security."

As he noticed Kaelis’s face turning pale, he added, "Don’t worry. They won’t disturb anyone here. Everyone, scatter and hide yourselves. Hecte will give you further orders."

At his command, the shadows dispersed into the wind, as if they had never existed at all.
