Chapter 422: 422. Dream Walking - 2
Meanwhile, William then turned toward Selena, who had settled herself on the couch unconsciously. She looked much worse. The mention of a coma had completely shaken her. She was shivering from nervousness.
If entering the dream was dangerous even for William, then what kind of situation was Seraphine facing right now? Another disturbing thought soon appeared, and she realized that, as the Elven Empress, she knew so little about this situation.
Her own awakening had proceeded smoothly. Nothing like this had ever happened to her. So why was Seraphine suffering through such a nightmare?
Questions continued piling up inside her mind. Before she could sort through them, she noticed movement beside her.
Tamasya had collapsed by her side on the couch. Her body wasn’t trembling like hers, though she seemed distressed. Yet the worry on her face was impossible to hide.
Selena followed her gaze. Only then did she realize that William had already seated himself beside Seraphine.
He gently took her hand and closed his eyes.
The room fell silent.
Several seconds passed.
Suddenly, Selena felt the temperature around her drop.
A chilling energy began spreading throughout the room. She looked toward William.
Cold blue energy was slowly radiating from his body. The power grew stronger and stronger. Then a small silver-blue wisp detached itself from him.
Before anyone could react, the wisp shot forward and entered Seraphine’s body.
William immediately became motionless. The connection seemed to have been established.
A nervous voice suddenly interrupted the silence and addressed Selena.
"What happened?"
Tamasya had finally found the courage to ask. Selena rubbed her arms. The memory still sent chills through her body.
"Seraphine was going through her awakening."
She took a deep breath.
"Then something went wrong. We started hearing screams. The cocoon around her began cracking apart. Then an energy explosion erupted from inside. It was unlike anything I have ever seen before."
She paused briefly.
"The priests were thrown across the hall. The walls started breaking. Nobody could get close."
Her eyes shifted toward William.
"Then we saw that William was able to contain the situation."
Tamasya listened quietly. Now that she had a clearer picture of what had happened, her concern only deepened.
She reached over and gently rubbed Selena’s back. "Calm down."
Although she said those words, she herself was far from calm. Inside her mind, Virgo had already explained the entire situation in detail.
The thought of killing William if things went wrong made her feel sick. Even if it was necessary, and even if he could be revived with her blood afterward.
The idea alone was horrifying. She was certain that if she ever had to go through with it, the memory would haunt her for the rest of her life.
Neither woman spoke for a while. The room remained filled with anxious silence. Eventually, Tamasya noticed Selena quietly mumbling to herself. "What was that?"
Selena lowered her head. "I wish that scoundrel were here."
Tamasya blinked.
Selena forced out a weak laugh. "Even after being the empress, I feel so clueless without him."
Tamasya immediately understood. "You mean Seraphine’s father?"
Selena nodded. A complicated expression appeared on her face.
"That bastard disappeared one day without warning. The funny thing is that maybe because I learned to live without him. I only truly felt his absence twice in my life."
She clenched her hands.
"The first time was when Seraphine disappeared." A trace of pain appeared in her eyes.
"And the second time is today." Tamasya remained silent. "I could really use his weird out-of-the-world abilities right now."
The room became quiet once again. After some hesitation, Tamasya finally spoke.
"I don’t want to be rude, especially since I wasn’t around twelve years ago."
She scratched her cheek awkwardly.
"But Andrea once told me that Arthur entered the Abyss." She hesitated. "Is that really true?"
Selena nodded. "Yes."
Tamasya visibly relaxed. "Then maybe there is still hope."
Selena looked toward her. "When high-level warriors enter the Abyss, they sometimes remain inside for decades. The place is enormous, and treading in that atmosphere is not easy. Maybe one day he’ll come back."
Unfortunately, Selena slowly shook her head.
"He won’t." The certainty in her voice surprised Tamasya.
Selena bit her lip. "Every important decision he ever made, he discussed it with me first."
Her voice carried obvious hurt.
"But when he entered the Abyss, I knew nothing; I just woke up one day, and he wasn’t there."
She looked toward the floor with a melancholic expression on her face. "He was acting strangely before he disappeared. Something was bothering him, and he was feeling hesitant to communicate with me."
A bitter smile appeared. "At first, I actually thought he was cheating on me."
Tamasya nearly choked.
Selena laughed weakly. "I thought he had found another woman."
The smile quickly faded. "But that wasn’t it."
A distant look appeared in her eyes. "Sometimes I wish things were that simple."
"But he always kept secrets from me."
Tamasya remained attentive as she heard about Selena’s experience.
"There were things he never explained. " Selena’s gaze drifted toward Seraphine.
"For example, why did he remove all the tracking spells placed on Seraphine and instantly cover her with anti-tracking spells instead, and strangely, after he disappeared, my daughter was kidnapped too?"
Tamasya blinked. "What?"
Selena nodded. "That is why I was never able to track her down after Sera was kidnapped, and as time passed, she became immune to divination as well, somehow."
She shook her head in disgust and disappointment. "I can’t help but think that he was responsible for all my suffering. How could he do that to his own daughter, piece of shit!!"
That revelation surprised Tamasya. For several moments, she simply stared.
Then she spoke. "Don’t worry. I’ll ask Yue to examine her when all of this is over."
Selena looked genuinely relieved.
"Thank you." A smile finally appeared on her face. "I hope you’ll take care of her after she marries William."
Tamasya froze. Selena continued.
"I hope you’ll treat her like a younger sister and forgive her if she makes any mistakes."
Tamasya slowly nodded. Then something suddenly registered.
Her eyes widened.
"Wait."
She looked at Selena with surprise.
"You know about William and me?"
Selena nodded casually.
"I spoke with Anastasia."
Realization immediately dawned on Tamasya. After that, silence returned to the room.
The two women sat there quietly while watching over William’s and Seraphine’s conditions.
Several minutes passed. Eventually, Tamasya looked toward William’s motionless body.
A complicated smile appeared on her face. "Sometimes..."
She paused. "Sometimes I genuinely can’t believe the things this man is capable of doing."
As she looked at him sitting there, peacefully connected to another person’s dream, she realized that no matter how long she spent around William, he always found new ways to surpass what she believed was possible.
<"Just wish he doesn’t end up being another Arthur; I mean, that guy kept his share of secrets too,"> Shadow spoke with a weirdly mocking tone.
[If you can’t say something useful, you have the choice to shut up, snarky bitch] Virgo commented.
<"You should thank me that I haven’t charged any rent from you, virgin">
[My name is Virgo, but it seems your mind is too full of shit to be able to pronounce that. Moreover, you are not the rightful tenant of this place anyway]
<"Who are you to tell me that!!">
"Oh Heavens!! Can you both stop!!" Tamasya shouted in her mind.
It seems like it was not the first time she had heard these two argue.
