Chapter 42: Ch 42: Master Verde Is Back
Night fell.
The whole house had only two bedrooms.
One was taken over by the old man, and the other one was left for Raidan and Naida.
That is why Naida was fidgeting awkwardly until now.
Seeing her uncomfortable expression, Raidan said,
"Sorry, Naida, I did not realize this was your room until now. Do not worry, I can sleep in your shop."
Saying that, he stood up to leave, but she caught him by his sleeves.
"No, do not. The night will be cold tonight," she said, looking genuinely concerned.
Raidan shrugged it off.
"Haha, this amount of cold is nothing. Besides, I am already imposing on you two."
Naida relented and gave him a pillow and a thick blanket for him to stay warm at night.
Raidan waved his hand, then left for the other compartment.
Upon lighting it up with a fire lamp, only hard stools and cold benches welcomed him.
He did not complain. They had not crossed the line to share a bed.
I mean, he could have, but he chose to give her space.
Besides, he needed to log out to check on his Uncle on Earth.
After making the arrangements on the bench to make it look like there was a person sleeping there, Raidan logged out.
Flash!
Once again, he reappeared in the same tent of the refugee camp.
His uncle was busy cooking breakfast, worrying about Raidan’s mysterious disappearance.
However, as he moved his gaze to the right, he saw Raidan’s figure, laughing at him.
"Oh, it smells good, Uncle! Did you make enough for me?"
"Rai! Where were you? You disappeared for a whole day. I was getting worried!"
"Oh, you know, just regular superhuman stuff!" Raidan shrugged. "Anyway, how is the power development of the Detroit Camp? Is it finally in good hands?"
At this topic, Michael released a heavy sigh.
"Not good Rai. The Superhuman group did take hold of the power from the military, but this created an even bigger problem. There is now a civil war between two groups. One calls themselves the Crimson Banishers, and the others call themselves the Verden Apostles. They are all strong fighters, no doubt, but their infighting will be the end for all the commoner refugees here."
Hearing him, Raidan realized how grave the situation was. Also, the other group named the Verden Apostles did catch his eye.
He did not expect those players to actually make a cult out of him.
But they could be the key to peace in the Detroit refugee camp.
He would groom them by assigning them more quests, eventually making them strong enough to seize all power from the rival group.
After having a light breakfast, he acted.
First, he changed his face to Master Verde: the same scholarly face, vibrant green hair, and a black hat that covered half of his forehead.
In his left hand, he held the [ Pocket Watch Of The Coward ] he had received from opening the Mythic Treasure Boxes.
Tick Tock Tick Tock.
It swayed left and right, creating a mysterious symphony around him.
After that, he simply disappeared.
---
Inside a dimly lit, reinforced tent, a group of newly awakened superhumans gathered around a makeshift map of the Detroit Camp.
They were looking exhausted.
"Sarah, we lost control of the eastern water supply. The Crimson Banishers brought in three Level 15 playerd. We could not hold the line." Zelio reported to Sarah, the group’s leader.
Sarah was chosen as the leader because if her strong commanding aura and level 16 power.
She was leaning against the tent pole, her arms crossed.
"Zelio, it’s not your fault. Our numbers are simply too thin. We only have 15 awakened playerd who actually managed to complete their class advancements."
The fashionable clothed Zara chimed in,
"Those Crimson thugs do not even care about the refugees. They just want absolute control and the best food rations. If we do not push them back soon, they will start enslaving the commoners again. They are treating this apocalypse like their own personal playground."
Marcus, the group’s Tank, rubbed his temple.
"We need a miracle to turn the tide, Captain Sarah. Or better yet, we need him."
The entire tent fell utterly silent at that remark.
Sarah’s eyes reflected a rare melancholy.
"Master Verde... It has been exactly two days since he last appeared in the camp."
"Do you think he abandoned us? He gave us that hidden quest out of nowhere. And we went from being selfish players to actual Heroes..."
Zelio denied coldly.
"He did not abandon us, Zara. A being like Master Verde operates on a higher plane of existence. You all remember the mysterious aura he projected. The System itself seemed to bow to his presence when he walked past us."
Sarah smiled, remembering the fateful day.
"How could I ever forget? When he handed me the [ Refugee Defense ] quest, my interface literally glitched in gold text. I gained three levels just from the initial experience reward. And my mana pool doubled instantly."
Zara nodded excitedly.
"And we got our very first Epic Tier armour from him! The Crimson Banishers are just relying on brute forcing the basic tutorials in Olympus and stealing from the weak. But Master Verde gave us the true path to power."
"Yes, we call ourselves the Verden Apostles for a reason. We must hold our ground and protect the weak. That is the fundamental ideology he planted within us. We just have to survive until he bestows another quest upon us."
A younger emeber raised his concern,
"But what if we cannot hold out until then, Seniors? The Crimson Banishers are planning a massive raid on our central block tonight. They want to crush our faction completely before we can grow any stronger."
"Then we will fight to our last breath. We will not let them undo everything Master Verde started," Sarah Declared.
Everyone exchanged a unifying. They would fight hard.
But suddenly—
Tick Tock Tick Tock.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Master Verde!" All of them shouted in unison.
