Chapter 154: The Only Gold Rank Skill

Brushing the sand from his hair, Faust looked up to see how far he had flown. The bears were already charging to meet him, crushing the distance like freight trains.

Silver energy was flowing around his body. His armor had stored enough moonlight. Faust grinned and used Shadow Step to appear in the midst of ten bears.

’Leviathan’s Call!’

A silver boom expanded around him, swallowing the ten bears and then more, rising with the roar of an ancient predator.

The roar was so harrowing that anything that heard it froze, bodies seizing up as primal fear vibrated in their chests.

Faust moved immediately. The stunned bears fell like rotten trees under his axe. Each swing claimed one life, then resulted in a golden serpent that claimed another.

[You have killed 20x "Horned Bear" and gained 400 experience points.]

[Rewards have been placed in your equipped Spatial Bag.]

By the time he was done, twenty bears were dead, instantly cutting their numbers to just five. Which were put down by Nirvana, black flame consuming them as their anguished roars filled the air.

[Lord_Level: That roar was absolutely terrifying and I’m not even there. I actually jolted; felt like lightning on my spine.]

[John_doe#2193: He’s decimating them without even trying! Those are level 9 bears. Same level as him, with extreme defense!]

[Frankili: What is that Golden snake skill? It’s dazzling the way it flies around him. And terrifying in its slashing power!]

Faust was busy with the level up notification he just got.

[Congratulations, you have leveled up to Level 10!]

[You have gained 10 points in all attributes, and 10 free points to distribute.]

[You will be assigned an Ascension Quest to reach level 11. Race Ascension will also be available.]

He added the ten points to his Spirit, needing the extra mana with his Gold-rank skill draining him down to almost twenty percent. All the while, he watched the Gate.

The mana of the Gate swelled like the crescendo of a song, until it finally popped. An audible wail rolled over the city, making people clutch their ears. The colors of the Gate shifted as something crossed over.

A giant Horned Bear, black as night, eyes blood red, fell to the beach, shaking the world with its weight. Nirvana wobbled on the house she stood on, eyes widened as she took in the sight.

It was the size of a two story building with arms and legs as thick as tanks. Energy rolled off it as it raised its head and roared. The sound made Faust’s vision blur.

When it was done, it lowered its eyes to its slain brothers and turned directly to Faust.

’Oh, that’s interesting.’

’Appraise.’

[Horned Bear Boss]

[Level: 10]

[Combat Power: 1200]

[Details: Extremely durable. A walking calamity. Mana gathers at its horn for a magic cannon that destroys everything in its path.]

Faust turned back and saw the town behind him, sighing. That was not a good direction to be in against a magic cannon.

But the boss was already charging its beam attack, and it was at the Gate, around four hundred meters away.

He couldn’t reach it with Shadow Step, and if he used Narrow Path to leave this dimension, a gnawing feeling told him the boss would turn the attack on Nirvana.

’Fine then.’

’Winged Serpent!’

Faust winced as a torrent of mana rushed from his soul to use one of the active abilities of his Gold rank skill

A golden serpent bloomed beneath him, white wings on its back as it surged him into the air. The sudden acceleration made him fall back and swing his arms, screaming in surprise. It was unbelievably fast.

And his feet were sort of glued to its back, so he couldn’t fall off. He stopped swinging his arms for balance and coughed.

"That was a bit embarrassing."

His chat agreed, saying they were glad to hear such a fearful shout from him, though. Also speculating on what the hell type of skill he had to be doing all of this.

[Lord_Level: It might be a Schema, but who knows. We need someone with Appraise.]

[Greta: Yo, I was just watching from another stream. The Players from Compound Wave are coming and someone just appraised the skill as Gold Rank!]

[Floridaman: Lazy bastards coming when the battle is ending.]

[Dirtemann: Well, it’s only been a few minutes in real time; it’s slowed down for us. If not, we would barely understand what’s happening.]

[Friga: Wait, did no one listen to that? A Gold Rank skill! That’s not normal, right?!]

[Lord_Level: No player has Gold rank skills.]

[Spidaman: Hell, I watched a so-called Knight struggle to learn a Silver rank skill yesterday.]

[Percents: Yeah lol. Even the Jupiter Knight had too low Spirit for a Silver rank skill yesterday. Bro was saying it’s not his specialty.]

[Lord_Level: @Red_God how high are your stats?!]

[Ginger: He has to be light years ahead of everybody in Spirit just to learn that skill.]

[Sinner#8293: Bro, check the Galactic chat; it’s too fast, but a Patron commented so his badge brings his comments to the top. He said it’s only possible for one person from the Beast Tide event. You have to not only be the strongest player, but also complete more than two hidden quests.]

A/N: Hey sorry for the slow updates. But I’m not stopping. I just have a lot less time to write or edit.

The story will be more focused on Gates and gathering materials for the Race Ascension, but I’ve already decided what it will be.
