Kyle stopped.

He looked at the little cat in front of him who sat obediently in front of the table, looking up at him. Her large blue eyes were crystal clear while her fluffy tail was swaying in slow motion.

She looked extremely cute and adorable, just like any normal beautiful cat.

But her eyes seemed to be able to see through any layer of thoughts. It was extremely clear and beautiful.

Looking behind her, Kyle could see that the table was prepared for two people and there was a pot of soup in the middle that was still steaming. The cutlery was also placed neatly, only lacking the people’s presence.

The scene was warm and beautiful.

It struck Kyle deeply, invoking the memory he once had buried in the back of his mind. His eyes flickered slightly, suppressing the emotions within his heart that was about to break out.

Kyle opened his mouth, his voice somewhat hoarse, “I’m back.”

Kate beamed happily.

.....

Poof!

She turned into a child and then ran to one of the seat. “Come here! I cooked dinner for us!”

“I didn’t know you can cook.” Kyle looked at the excited young girl and smiled warmly. The emotions were perfectly controlled within his mind.

Years of training had taught him how to hide what he had thought in his mind. Because he didn’t have anyone he wanted to show it to, he never thought that there will be a time when it would be difficult.

But at the same time, he just wanted to stay in this moment.

Kate pouted. “Well, if it’s just some simple soup, I can still cook. I’m not exactly sure how long I have to cook them, though, so if it’s still a bit hard or too soft, I’m sorry.”

Kyle let out a low laugh. “Did you not taste it first?”

“I did and I think it’s pretty good, but I’m not sure about your taste.” Kate was a bit embarrassed. She hadn’t seen Kyle being picky with food, which was why she was not sure about his preferences.

In the end, she could only cook in accordance to her preferences.

“Don’t worry, I’m not a picky eater.” Kyle pointed to the bathroom. “I’ll wash my hand first. Do you need me to take a bath before eating?”

“Ah, it’s not like you’re so dirty, right?” Kate looked at Kyle blankly. From what she knew, Kyle could easily kill countless giant mutated animals without allowing them to even get close to him. There was no need to take a bath so many times, right?

Kyle looked at her confused expression and didn’t say anything more. He walked to the bathroom and turned the water on.

His emotion was raging, but he forced it all down.

Splash!

As the water wetted his face, Kyle’s thoughts became clearer. He didn’t want to scare the young woman with his reaction, so he tried his best to stay normal when he was staying in front of Kate.

Slowly, Kyle washed his hand and then sat in front of Kate. “Shall we begin?”

“You’re not going to call the others?”

“Do you want the others to join? I thought that you only cook for two people’s portion.”

“Well, I didn’t dare to cook a lot because I often messed up the kitchen.” Kate didn’t want to say that she had almost caused an accident in her house because of her recklessness in the kitchen. This was the reason why she only cooked rice and a pot of soup without anything else.

At the very least, making soup was not that difficult.

The only problem was that she might not put the vegetables in right order so some are a bit too cooked compared to the others.

But it was still edible!

It was not charcoal like meal that she had made in the past…

*cough*

Kyle chuckled. “Don’t worry, they’re eating at the canteen above.”

“Ok.”

The research institute had already prepared canteen with relatively cheap price. For the time being, they were still using money for the researchers who were eating there. After all, money was still something that was being used for trade.

The world economy was indeed recessing, but it hadn’t collapsed yet.

The importance of money as a trading currency was still visible.

For others who were not researchers, they would have to use crystals for trade. For Kyle and the others, they were part of military, so thankfully they could still use money to trade for the food.

Of course, only normal food.

“Right, there’s also canteen above.” Kate looked at the soup and began to feel that her decision to try cooking for Kyle seemed to be stupid. They could just eat in the canteen with the others.

“It’s alright, I like eating alone.” Kyle tapped the soup. “Shall we begin?”

“Um!”

Kate then happily took some rice and then the vegetables and potatoes from the soup. In any case, she liked the taste of the soup, so she wanted to start eating.

Kyle watched Kate eat happily and began to eat too.

The two of them ate quietly and the food rapidly disappear into their stomach. When they were done, Kate looked at the rice cooker and felt somewhat amazed that the rice was eaten completely clean. She was sure that she cooked quite a lot.

“I didn’t know you eat so much,” Kate murmured while glancing in Kyle’s direction.

She herself only ate a bit because her child’s form didn’t need to eat so much. Not to mention that as a cat, she definitely couldn’t eat so much.

Kyle arched his eyebrows. “An awakened eat more than normal people. Go wash up and prepare to sleep.”

“But I’m not sleepy yet!”

“You’re still a kid, so you need more sleep.”

Kate wanted to refute but looking at her small limbs, she could only run to the bathroom to take a bath. Hmph! When she turned back to her adult form, Kyle would never be able to call her as a kid anymore!
