209 Threat

Decorating can take a long time.

They selected their rooms’ location, their favorite rooms beside them and so on. The process itself took an extremely long time, making Kate wonder just when they were going to be finished.

Kyle himself took two rooms for himself. He said that one of them was for his little cat, which made the others think that this little cat was living a life better than most of them. The two rooms were connected with a door and the wall itself can be dismantled so that they could stay in one place.

Beside Kyle’s room was a laboratory and Kate helped to put the equipment in place. It seemed that Kyle himself still liked the life inside the lab and not go out to fight those giant mutated animals continuously.

While the others were happily arranging their furniture, Kyle stayed in the lab. Kate jumped to the table in her cat’s form and looked at Kyle’s expression.

“Meow.” <Do you like working in the lab, Kyle?>

“I used to.” Kyle glanced at Kate and smiled faintly. He was really smart when he was young, causing his parents to be so proud of him. And at that time, his dream was to become a researcher and invent something that was useful for his parents, especially his mother.

But after the incident that took his mother’s life, Kyle began to research for dangerous items to the point that he was kicked out of the lab. They didn’t dare to let him stay there any longer in fear that he would truly become the enemies of the entire world.

His father was worried about him.

.....

And Kyle’s thoughts about these laboratories were relatively mixed. Half of him still wanted to work here because it was his dream but half of it was to restrain himself not to come here anymore.

If not because of that, he would not have been kicked to City A and forced to become a teacher in University A.

To be honest, he didn’t like working as a teacher. Everyday was very boring as he watched the students stumped on the questions he didn’t feel difficult. There was nothing fun in that academy, but he had to stay because of his father’s order.

If not because of the mutation occurred, he would never be able to get out of City A easily with his father’s people who were placed there to keep watch on him.

“Meow?” <I thought you’re part of the military.>

“Both. I worked in the lab even in the military.” Kyle chuckled. “Don’t worry too much, I’m not going to participate in the military anymore.”

Kate looked at Kyle, not really understanding what had happened before. However, she could guess that whatever had happened caused Kyle to be unwilling to be part of the military anymore and might not be willing to stay behind in this place.

“Meow.” <Do you plan on making something?>

<Continuing my research.>

Kyle participated in various researches back then. One of them was the research of materials in order to find stronger and better material that could be used for many things. That research was halted because it cost a lot of money and there hasn’t been any significant result.

Kate blinked her eyes. “Meow?” <Do you need my help?>

<You just need to transport some materials that I put into the research. As for rest, can do it myself.>

Kyle patted Kate’s head.

Sensing the sadness from Kyle, Kate trembled a bit. She knew that the blood contract had caused her to be able to sense Kyle’s emotion better than before. But she never expected that she would be able to feel it this clearly.

It felt as if the emotion that belonged to Kyle also poured into her body, making her feel the same as him.

Kate lowered her head and lightly caressed her head to his arm, trying to console him.

She didn’t know what make him sad, but she wanted to let him know that she will be here to accompany him. She hoped that she could help him, even if it was only a little bit.

“I’m fine.”

Kyle looked at Kate and lowered his eyes, trying to control his emotion. He didn’t want her to know his real feeling, but looking at the cat that was trying so hard to coax him, he sighed deeply.

In front of her, he felt that there was truly nothing that he could hide.

This blood contract truly made him appear in front of her without any layer of barrier, letting her see his real self.

It was scary.

If the one who saw him was a real stupid pet, Kyle would not feel so exposed. After all, an animal would never be able to truly understand human and only learned how to imitate through learning.

But the one who saw him is Kate, a human being.

‘Would she find out how possessive and dark I am?’

Kyle wanted to hide this part of him from her forever, but he felt that it would not be possible. He lifted the cat and carried her in his arm. No matter what happened in the future, he will not let her go.

He just wanted her to stay by his side.

Klep!

Walking out, he saw that the others had finished the furnishing. Jake looked at Kyle and waved his hand. “I have already strengthened the defense in accordance to the plan you give. Are we going to stay here now?”

“Stay on the third floor for the time being.” Kyle swept his gaze across the others and showed a gentle smile. “Good work everyone.”

“Hehehe.”

They all laughed.

“Starting tomorrow, we’ll begin to work to eliminate the giant mutated animals around the city. Even though there are soldiers there, but if we want to get more crystals, one of the methods to do it is by killing the giant mutated animals and asked for a portion.”

“Got it.” they all nodded.
