124 The Abandoned Research Base

Bang!

Throwing several grenades down, Kyle eliminated the giant mutated ants that were waiting for them on the floor below. With Kate’s help, they could basically determine the location of these giant mutated ants and whether they could enter or not.

After that first step, they entered and staged another massacre to make sure that none of these giant mutated ants would survive.

The second floor was similar to the first floor where they could easily stage the massacre to the ants.

But the third floor contained rank 2 and rank 3 giant mutated ants. It took them significantly longer time to deal with these giant mutated ants and cleaned up everything. When it was done, they were all so tired that they decided to rest for the day.

“Just how many floors are there in this research base?” Jake asked while panting. While he had to admit that whoever designed this building was a genius to be able to build such a sturdy building, it was a hassle when they had to go down so many times.

“8,” Kyle answered.

“EIGHT FREAKING FLOORS? DAMN IT!” Jake cursed and slumped on the ground. Even though he was rank 4, he knew very well that he was so tired right now.

Kate looked at Jake and silently used her healing ability towards him.

Refreshing and warm current flew into Jake’s body, making him comfortable. Neither one of them was wounded in this battle just now, so Kate hadn’t used her healing ability at all. She only used it a little bit to suck these giant mutated ants on the third floor to help them clean all of them.

After all, there were indeed a little too many giant mutated ants around them.

“That’s really comfortable...” Jake sighed deeply. “Does your healing ability had advanced again, Little Kitty? I feel as if I no longer need to sleep now.”

“Meow.”

“Wait, you’re rank 4?” Lotte was stunned. For the first time, she began to feel that she was actually not as good as a little cat. She thought that being rank 3 was quite good, but in this team, she was technically placed at the very bottom.

This made Lotte wanted to cry.

“So healing can also erase fatigue?” Kyle was a bit surprised.

Lotte pouted. “Stop spouting lies and let’s just find a place to sleep. I definitely not want to sleep here where the rotting smell is so strong that I can’t bear it.”

Jake nodded.

Indeed, the area was filled with the smell of rotting corpses that it was truly a bit unbearable to look at. If they had to sleep here for a night, they would probably feel like they would like to puke.

“Let’s go up. The first floor is cleaner.”

“Ok.”

They all went up and after looking around, they decided to get out of the building and entered the car. Kate hadn’t put the cat back into the space because they felt that it would be better to leave the car out here in case of emergency. Some supplies were also left inside the car for them to use.

The car itself was covered behind the bushes and Lotte even planted a few seeds around the car to conceal it from others who passed the area. Though, this was a rather remote place and no one will come.

After settling their dinner and cleaning up a bit, they all went to sleep. Of course, there would be a person guarding while the others were resting.

Kate’s healing could indeed help them to stay awake, but they still preferred to sleep and have some proper rest. It was not like they were truly pressed for time to clean up the entire eight floor of this building.

In the morning, they began their cleaning up.

But when they entered the fourth floor, they were dumbfounded when they saw that there were rank 4 of giant mutated ants there.

“Damn it! How come they’re getting stronger so fast?” Lotte was stunned and waved her hand. Countless wind blades were slaughtering the giant mutated ants in front of her.

But those of rank 4 couldn’t be cut through.

Their shell skin was simply too thick that the wind blades from Lotte basically couldn’t cut through them at all.

Spreading fire, Kyle melted their skin and the giant mutated ants were screaming in pain. As the two of them were of the same rank, Kyle’s fire was stronger as it could still melt these giant mutated ants’s shells.

“Let me try too!” Jake raised his hand. Several metal spears formed and stabbed towards these rank 4 giant mutated ants. Some of them still managed to enter, but some others were blocked.

“These giant mutated ants have different skins’ thickness in different location. It wouldn’t be easy to deal with them.” Jake shook his head.

Dylan’s water blades still could easily slice through these rank 4 giant mutated ants, but Jake and Lotte were basically at lower rank, so their elemental ability was not strong enough to deal with these giant mutated ants.

It took them significantly lower time to deal with the ants on the fourth floor.

Not only that, they realized that there was a truly big gaping hole on the wall of the fourth floor with more and more giant mutated ants appearing from within.

“This should be the tunnel that crashed into the research building.” Kyle looked at the tunnel and noticed that there was also a path leading down. It seemed that this tunnel was also connected to the fifth floor.

No wonder that many people were unable to break through this floor and the mess was even more than above. With so many giant mutated ants that looked like they were endless, it would be hard for them to deal with all of them.

“There should be some gems there,” Kyle said after a while. “And it might be what these giant mutated ants used to get stronger. These gems are also very useful for us.”

Kate looked at the tunnel and sighed. With almost all of them sensed the calling of the gems, it was estimated that there were actually several gems that were placed within the tunnels. No wonder that these giant mutated ants could grow stronger so fast.
