Lick.

Lick.

Lick.

The sound of a starving pig chewing it's food could be heard with the sounds of licking in between.

In the abandoned house Li Shen, Lihua, and Li Wen were surrounding the pig in question, watching as it chew sloppily as if what it just said wasn’t shocking.

“Tongguo Xian, say that again.”

Lihua asked him for clarification.

The boy they rescued was named Tongguo Xian. After finding out he was unaffected unlike everyone else in the city, Li Shen suggested they brought him back.

They gave him food and new clothes after he bathe. Now with all of the smudges that were caked onto his face gone and his hair neatly combed back into a ponytail, even a stoic Li Wen had to do a double take when he saw his appearance.

It was too perfect.

As if his face had been sculpted by a god. This wasn’t an exaggeration, it was a simple fact that even had a shameless Li Shen sizing him up as a worthy competition, unwilling to admit he was inferior.

After swallowing the food in his mouth in one gulp, Tongguo Xian look at Lihua and said.

“Goddess Lihua, you can just call me Xian, I don’t mind.”

Xian then released a smile that had Li Shen and Li Wen squinting their eyes due to the sudden bombardment of brightness in their retina.

“Enough with your courting, I said I won’t marry you. Just repeat what you just said.”

Xian wore a pitiful expression upon hearing Lihua's hard rejection, but his down mood only lasted a second before he smiled and said.

“Anything for my Goddess Lihua. Like I said just now, I too realize the people in this city strange behavior. I thought I was going crazy when I saw it, I just couldn’t understand what was going on. I thought I was in a dream where things were being repeated… but then I saw your face Goddess Lihua, and that you weren’t like them. I thought then and there if this was a dream, I never wanted to wake up.”

Everyone was fully focused on his words but after he steered off in a completely different direction, they rolled their eyes so far back into their sockets they almost detach and fell out.

“Oh, and I'm also grateful to you benefactor.”

Xian turned to Li Shen and cupped his fist in thanks.

Xian knew that it was this person, who looked a few years older than him, that had suggested they brought him here, and give him clothes and food. He could also guess that he was the leader among them so he showed his gratitude.

Li Shen evaluated this person in his mind and thought he wasn’t that bad. He reminded him of Jun when he first met him.

Thinking of Jun, Li Shen sighed before he said to Xian.

“You don't have to call me benefactor, just call me Li Shen.

Xian hearing that nodded, but suddenly frowned as he asked.

“Beni-I mean, brother Shen, I think I heard your name before.”

Li Shen was expecting Xian to immediately recognize him since his name was notorious at this point, but hadn’t expected he would instead not know.

'I guess I underestimated my infamy in the outside world.'

Not confirming his identity, Li Shen instead asked.

“How long was it since this happened to the city?”

Xian thought for a moment then replied with an unsure tone.

“I don’t know brother Shen, my memory is really bad. I have a hard time remembering what I was doing the day before, or even parts of today.”

Xian showed a sorry expression, he wanted to help in any way he can in return for their kindness. Everyone else he met in the city so far would either curse at him or ignore him.

Even the ones who were nice enough to give him money or food would forget him soon after.

Li Shen hearing that, realized there was no point in asking him any questions about the Demonic Cult then. But he was still curious about his body and why he wasn’t affected by the Demonic Qi like everyone else.

“It’s fine if you don't remember, but let me ask you one more thing. That cultivator who attacked you, how are you fine after? That blow could have severely injured a 1st stage Foundation Realm cultivator if they had received it as you did.”

“A cultivator? What’s that?”

Xian asked confused as he looked at Li Shen and the others.

However, seeing their stumped expressions he got the feeling he might have asked something stupid.

“Uh, am I supposed to know what a cultivator is? I told you! I have a really bad memory so I might have forgotten about it.”

Xian fidgeted in his seiza position under all of their stares.

“Even so, to not know what a cultivator is despite being in a cultivator city, that’s…”

Li Wen who had been silent up till now said in disbelief. He had heard of mortals that had gone their entire lives without knowing about the cultivation world, but he had never met someone like Xian who was so oblivious to it.

Xian wore an indignant expression on his face as he looked at Li Wen. He then said.

“I might not know what a cultivator is, but I know why I wasn’t hurt.”

Everyone focused when they saw Xian starting to look around on the floor for something. A second or two went by before they saw him pop a rusty nail from a loose floorboard.

They then watched in confusion as he held out his palm.

“Look!”

He said before he stabbed his palm with the rusty nail, blood immediately began gushing out from his wound.

Xian winched in pain. It look like he had burst a vein in his palm for so much blood to spurt out.

“W-What are you doing?!”

Lihua recovered from her dumbfoundment at his crazy actions and quickly came up to him. Holding his hand she yanked out the nail.

Xian winced at that.

But at the same time, a feeling of joy appeared in his heart when he saw Lihua worrying for him.

This was his chance!

Given his signature smile, he said.

“D-Don’t worry Goddess Lihua, I’m strong, you don’t have to worry about-”

However, he was cut off by Lihua.

“You fool! To think you would ruin such good material, are you crazy?!”

Seeing Lihua’s livid expression and hearing her words, Xian’s smile froze.

He then blinked.

“Eh?”

that was the only thing he could let out while question marks appeared above his head.

At the same moment, Li Shen’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Xian’s palm.

The blood had stopped flowing.

Li Shen waved his hand and suddenly the blood covering his palm was lifted and thrown to one side.

Xian seeing that had his eyes go wide in shock.

“How is that possible?!”

He turned to Li Shen in shock, but he was ignored as both he and Li Wen stepped forward to examine his hand.

All three of them saw that his hand was completely healed, not even a scar was there to indicate how badly Xian just mutilated his palm.

‘He can regenerate wounds?’

Li Shen thought to himself.

‘How is that possible? Even my two physiques don’t give me access to this power of instant regeneration, at least not at the stage they're at.’

Li Shen paused before he looked at Xian and said.

“I apologize in advance.”

Xian didn’t get the chance to ask what he meant, before the nail that Lihua had chucked to the side, appeared above his palm before stabbing into it.

Xian winched and bit his bottom lip, not allowing his groans of pain to escape his lips.

After removing the nail, Li Shen flung it to the side and then used his Divine Will to examine Xian’s wounded hand.

He hadn’t once stopped using his Heavenly Eyes to examine Xian as his origins were too weird. But even then he hadn’t sensed anything when his hand was healed.

His eyes might not be able to see anything but maybe his Divine Will would.

Li Shen encapsulated Xian’s palm and watched as his wounds healed in real-time.

Only one word came to Li Shen’s mind after observing the healing process in full.

‘Spiders?’
