Chapter 304 Insanity Caused By Failure
When Allen proposed another offer to the royal court mage, his interest was immediately piqued. Or more like, unless he was an idiot, he would never reject Allen's offer.
Of course, if he instantly accepted Allen's offer would make his loyalty doubtful towards the first prince and therefore, ruin his reputation. So for appearance's sake, he put on an act that made him look as if he was hesitating to accept Allen's offer.
"Are you certain that I will become an 8th Circle Mage? I know that you have heard from my others that it is my lifelong goal."
"The main reason why I supported the first prince was that I saw him as a genius who had a higher chance than me when it came to attaining the 8th Circle Mage existence."
"And since I came to a cruel reality that I could never reach the 8th Circle Mage rank in this life of mine, I had decided at that time that I will pass on my experiences to the first prince in hopes of him achieving my lifelong goal in my stead."
When the royal court mage spoke all those words as he reminisced, the nostalgic look on his face was too genuine despite him putting on a facade.
What a formidable actor the royal court mage was!
Even if he couldn't compare to the first prince in terms of scheming, his acting skills weren't that far off from the first prince. Like a teacher, like a student.
Of course, the hidden meaning in the royal court mage's words that the nobles had picked up on was: "I accepted the first prince as my disciple and became loyal to him because he was my successor of becoming an 8th Circle Mage in my stead. But since I will now have the possibility of becoming an 8th Circle Mage, I no longer have any reason to continue becoming his teacher."
In other words, the royal court mage's words were tantamount to him indirectly saying that as long as he became an 8th Circle Mage, he would sever his relationship with the first prince.
All of the nobles knew about that but they didn't criticize the royal court mage's actions. Even they would choose the same option that the royal court mage chose.
After all, who could resist the temptation of not only becoming more powerful but also achieving their lifelong dream?
Not only was the Supreme Mage generous in offering the royal court mage a chance to become an 8th Circle Mage, but he also planned to give the royal court mage an 8th Circle Magic spell.
If only the royal court mage and the nobles knew that 8th Circle Magic spells were like candies to Allen that he could easily give to others, their face might even show wondrous expressions that Allen would laugh about.

Bart Tholem, the royal court mage, knew about that and that was the reason why he didn't reject Allen's offer. He would be too foolish if he rejected Allen's offer.
"It's unnecessary to question my capabilities. After all, aside from me, the Supreme Mage, no one can assist you in becoming an 8th Circle Mage. I wouldn't offer something if I'm not confident that I can uphold my end of the deal."
Seeing through the royal court mage's acts, Allen played along with him as he didn't hesitate to reply to his question.
Witnessing the harmonious conversation between Allen and Bart made the first prince's last sliver of hope fade into nothingness.
The first prince had thought that if there was anyone who was going to betray him, then it wouldn't be the royal court mage. And it just so happened that he was proved wrong.
Not only were the nobilities that supported him in his campaign already switched to Allen's side, but even his magic teacher had also indirectly declared that he was no longer his student.
Although the first prince had trouble accepting that reality, he couldn't help but feel depressed. The election for the successor of the throne was very important to him.
If he lost, then he would lose not only his status as the prince but also his life. After all, unlike his other siblings, he was by far the one who committed the most heinous crimes among them all.

What he didn't expect was the appearance of the Supreme Mage that thwarted all of his plans and caused the rise of the first princesses.
At that realization, that he would live his life locked up in prison for all the crimes that he had committed, the first prince's mentality became unstable. He became mentally retarded and went crazy.
The first prince immediately slammed the table and threw all of the food on that table. But before the plates and food could splatter on the surrounding nobles' bodies, Allen used his mana to hold all of the plates and food in mid-air.
"Guards! Lock up the first prince in the prison cell!"
Aside from Allen, the first one to respond was the king as he decisively ordered the royal knights to lock up the first prince in prison.
Regardless of the first prince's identity as a royalty, what he did was beyond disrespect to all of the nobles and royals present in the Monthly Royal Gathering.
Not to mention, the first prince had already lost his qualification to become the king when his campaign's members became nonexistent. In other words, he had already lost his worth and even the first prince was a lot worst than before the first princess obtained the Supreme Mage's support.
At least, the first princess before had the support of a few nobles while the current first prince didn't have any support of even one noble.
As for why the first prince became insane, the cause was simple.
For someone who was extremely intelligent and had yet to fail and be defeated in his life, the first prince felt a sudden shock when he was brought down from his high position.
For someone who had stood at the peak of his life, his reaction to his downfall would without a doubt affect his mental stability especially if he suffered from an utter defeat.
That was why some people would say that failure was nothing, it was better to fail earlier than when someone was at the peak of his life. The higher his attainments, the harder the fall.
For comparison, if Alisceon was immediately abandoned by Allen, she would feel devastated in her life but would still be able to recover. Why? Because as soon as she was born, she experienced countless failures, unlike the first prince that had yet to fail in his life.
To be honest, when Allen had informed her before about his departure after his goals were completed, Alisceon had already steeled her heart. She knew that Allen couldn't stay in this world especially when he had revealed that he and his group were from another world.
For someone like Allen who suddenly appeared in her life, Alisceon had already expected yet feared that he would also disappear in an instant.
While the first prince was being restrained by the royal knights as they led the first prince to the prison, the king immediately bowed his head slightly to all of his guests.
"I apologize for my stupid son's outburst. I hope you all don't take this matter too seriously."
Witnessing the king's humble appearance, the nobles, and royals in the ballroom also felt ashamed and they immediately consoled the king that they wouldn't take it to heart. They didn't expect the king to apologize to them.
"Thank you for your assistance, Supreme Mage. If not for your timely assistance, I might have to kneel and apologize to those nobles that my son had offended."
While thanking Allen, the king also joked a bit to lighten up the mood within the ballroom. Of course, whether the king would kneel to those nobles was yet to be known.
After accepting the king's thanks, Allen's attention shifted back to the royal court mage.
"What will be your choice?"
