Chapter 34: Sumo?

The weekend began, and George walked around the school to find the only classmate he knew, 'Where the heck is that nerd?' He thought.

Every other student was outside the academy to rest or inside to continue their training.

If he were to go into the gym now, there wouldn't be enough equipment. The same thing applied even if he went to Class-C's gym, which had already been packed.

As he passed the cafeteria, his eyes automatically locked onto a familiar back.

He walked towards him, and as he got closer, he could see Jame writing something on his note while eating.

"Hey James!" George patted his back.

"Jame…"

"Yeah, whatever. I was just wondering if there are any competitions that have the Herculean elixir as the prize…"

Jame nodded. "Huh? Yeah, it's the competition at the end of the month, the number 1 ranking student would not only get to get to a higher class but they will also be able to get a herculean elixir. But since we are Class-C the potion that we will be getting is a watered down version of it." He explained.

"So, what about Class-B and A?"

"Class-B gets a decent quality one, and A they get a high quality version of the elixir…"

George rubbed his chin as he usually does, "And how effective is the watered down potion?"

"It's uhm… Okay? You would be able to gain 5 pounds of muscle upon consuming it, while the high quality version will give you about 20… But your body and bones will also be stronger than before so that's that."

"Immediately?" George didn't think that the elixir would be this good, he was expecting something like a steroid to enhance his muscle while working out and make him stronger after a long period of time, but this was far more efficient.

"Guess, I gotta get first place then…" George quickly got up and left the cafeteria.

Jame, who had been left alone once more inside the cafeteria, continued writing in his notebook with words that seemed to be gibberish.

George quickly ran towards the library, which compared to the other places in the academy, was nearly empty, with only the librarian inside.

As he took a step inside, the librarian opened her eyes, 'Huh, he's here again…'

He didn't waste any time and quickly shuffled through the books in the library, but so far, he couldn't find the book that he was finding for, and considering how big the library was, he might not be able to find the book that he is looking even if he were to spend a day here.

"Are you looking for something?" The librarian asked, walking towards him.

"Yeah, I was looking for a book which talks about events or activities that this academy might hold, a record book of sorts… I was just trying to figure out what practical sparring really means…"

The librarian nodded; less than a minute later, she managed to take a book out of the shelf and handed it to him, "Here it is. If you have any books that you would like to search for, just ask. There was a kid who tried finding a book, but it turns out the book doesn't even exist in the first place, so please, ask."

"Thanks." George thanked the librarian before sitting down and started scanning through the book.

[1st-semester practical sparring, in a situation where the students are not yet in a condition that they are able to hold back their attacks, just like most of the 1st-semester students, the practical sparring will only involve pushing the opponent outside of the drawn circle. And the one that stays inside of the circle wins, while the opponent who is pushed out of the drawn circle is eliminated and loses the spar.]

He continued reading the book and saw that most of the fights that ended up in the first ever semester of the academy were the first sparring session had been dominated by the heavier ones.

'Ah… So like Sumo Wrestling…' He thought. The concept was nearly similar, and considering the results, it was expected.

However, as they did more sparring sessions, the students learned how to control their opponent's weight to their own advantage and quickly eliminate them.

It seems that the more the students practiced they were able to learn the basic concepts of Earth's popular martial arts like Wrestling, Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, both martial arts which were extremely effective in using the opponent's weight to their advantage.

Royce Gracie, one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial artists, had faced martial artists stronger and faster than him from multiple martial arts backgrounds, but despite this, he managed to beat every one of them through his martial arts and become the first UFC champion.

George slapped his own face, regretting his decision not to practice any of those martial arts professionally.

He had only joined the High School Wrestling tournament and didn't even practice a single day. 'Dang it! I'm an idiot!'

He quickly stood up from his seat and got to where the librarian was reading her book, "Uhm, I was wondering if there is any martial arts book here about wrestling…"

He doubted that there were any books about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, so he didn't even ask.

The librarian nodded and quickly strolled through the entire library before coming back and handing George a stack full of books. "These are all the martial arts books about Wrestling… But are you sure that you would like to learn such a low level martial technique? We do have mid tier sword technique, and even mid tier hand to hand technique."

George couldn't help but clean his ears after hearing that, 'Wrestling? Low-level technique?'

He might not be a martial artist, but he knew that Wrestling and martial similar to it were the foundation of many martial arts, and considering how many world champions back on Earth that wrestling and BJJ practitioners have developed, he knew the decision he was going to take, "I will be taking all of this, thank you."
