Chapter 702: Chapter 702: Spy

Hearing those words, Carter instinctively opened his mouth to argue, only for the words to die in his throat.

Recently, he had already begun suspecting that one of his own staff members was a mole.

Under normal circumstances, he would never have allowed his subordinates to hear such a discussion, because exposing his thoughts would only corner him further.

However, now that he was alone with Silas, the man’s passive-aggressive pressure had already forced him into an uncomfortable position.

After thinking for a long moment, Carter finally exhaled slowly.

"I cannot argue against your reasoning. Since that is the case, here is my proposal. Choose any subordinate’s house you want. I will not interfere, but it definitely cannot be mine."

The moment those words left his mouth, Silas’s smile deepened slightly.

"Then how about Lina’s place?"

For a brief second, Carter completely froze.

His pupils contracted ever so slightly as suspicion surged through his mind.

He heavily suspected that Silas already knew about his affair with Lina.

Carter already had a wife along with several secret mistresses, but if someone asked whom he truly loved the most, the answer would undoubtedly be Lina.

Yet in the face of this situation, he could not afford to hesitate or act emotionally.

"Fine."

However, deep inside his mind, resentment boiled violently.

’One day, I will definitely make you pay for this humiliation, Silas.’

Once Silas received permission, he wasted no time and immediately headed toward Lina’s house.

After learning the entire situation, Lina did not resist much.

Even so, she continuously threw hurt and disappointed glances toward Carter.

Carter noticed those looks and blinked subtly at her several times, trying to comfort her without attracting attention. Unfortunately, the interaction only made Jay feel utterly disgusted.

He nearly rolled his eyes. ’These two are truly unbearable.’

Meanwhile, once Jay and Silas entered the circle, Jay narrowed his eyes slightly before speaking in a casual tone.

"You are taking revenge against Carter, aren’t you?"

Silas let out a soft laugh.

"I am a very revengeful person. I love taking revenge against everyone who hurts me or wrongs me."

Jay’s eyelids twitched faintly. This man truly was terrifyingly vindictive.

After thinking about it for a moment, Jay began casually strolling around the area.

Suddenly, his eyes narrowed. In one corner of the room, he noticed a faint red blinking light.

His expression instantly changed.

Without hesitation, he called Silas over. Once Silas approached and looked carefully, he immediately realized what it was.

A camera. The moment the truth became clear, everyone froze.

After all, this confirmed a suspicion that had lingered in their minds for a very long time. One of them, or more precisely, someone within the government organization, was betraying the country by secretly assisting the superior beings.

Otherwise, why would there be a hidden camera inside Lina’s house?

A few people initially tried to argue otherwise.

"Maybe someone simply wanted to take vulgar photos of Lina."

However, that possibility was quickly dismissed.

The hidden device was not just a camera. It also contained recording equipment, and the audio transmitter appeared even more advanced than the visual component itself.

That alone proved one thing clearly. The recordings were more important than the visuals.

The audio was the true target. The realization caused everyone’s expressions to darken.

Especially Silas.

A frightening thought slowly surfaced inside his mind.

Could this be the reason they had never managed to uncover any useful leads regarding the superior beings?

The more he thought about it, the colder his expression became.

His first instinct was immediately to lay a trap for the spy.

After all, if they allowed this traitor to remain hidden within the team, they would never be able to reach the superior beings no matter how hard they tried.

Meanwhile, Lina, Carter, Benny, and several other subordinates were currently gathered inside a meeting room.

Benny suddenly slammed his palm lightly against the table.

"This is truly outrageous. Silas actually thought about using government personnel to deal with the superior beings. Does he not have even the slightest respect for Carter? Otherwise, how could he recklessly place Carter’s life in danger like this?"

Hearing Benny’s words, several people nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Sandra, whose rank was only slightly lower than Benny’s, frowned faintly before speaking.

"Maybe he only did it because Ivy’s place could not be used. Honestly, it is better if Ivy’s place stays uninvolved."

The moment Sandra finished speaking, Benny briefly glanced at her before looking away calmly.

He knew that Silas’s group would eventually discover the camera and the voice transmitter. Once they learned the truth, they would naturally realize there was a traitor hidden among them.

After that, they would definitely begin preparing some kind of counterplan.

His thoughts moved rapidly as unease slowly crept into his chest.

Meanwhile, Carter remained completely unaware of Benny’s inner panic.

Just as he was about to speak, the sound of the door opening suddenly echoed through the room.

Everyone instinctively turned toward the entrance.

Charles quickly walked inside with an unusually serious expression. Without wasting time, he approached Carter and whispered Silas’s team’s report into his ear.

The moment Charles finished speaking, even Carter became stunned.

So there truly was a spy among them.

That realization immediately complicated everything.

A cold glint flashed across Carter’s eyes.

If Silas had not suggested using Lina’s house earlier, he would have never realized that a venomous snake had been hiding among his own subordinates this entire time.

Slowly, Carter’s gaze swept across the room.

For a brief moment, his eyes lingered on several suspicious individuals.

One of them was Benny.

Benny’s heart pounded violently the instant their eyes nearly met, but he carefully maintained a calm expression on his face.

Instead of reacting, he merely lowered his head and pretended to continue writing his report.

He understood very clearly that in order to remove suspicion from himself, he needed to continue acting like someone who opposed Silas completely.

Like, deep inside his heart, everything he did was for Carter’s sake alone.

As that thought crossed his mind, Carter finally spoke in a calm yet heavy voice.

"Meeting adjourned."
