Chapter 170: Fall of the Sun Emperor

The heavy, burning heat rolling off Emperor Meriel distorted the freezing northern air into a hazy, chaotic mirage.

Kai took another slow, deliberate step up the frosted brass staircase, his dark silk robes billowing in the harsh wind.

"You always loved looking down on people, Meriel," Kai spoke smoothly, his deep voice cutting right through the roaring solar winds.

"You left me bleeding in the southern dunes because you thought I was just a fragile, broken toy."

"You were a tragic mistake," Meriel rumbled, pointing his blazing star-spear directly at Kai’s chest.

"My father spared your miserable life out of misplaced, pathetic pity."

"He should have drowned you in the palace baths the very day they caught you reading those forbidden void scrolls."

"Your father was a weak, dying old man who feared the dark," Kai smirked, twirling the purple glass dagger in his hand.

"And you are just a pampered, arrogant prince wearing his oversized golden hat."

Meriel’s handsome face twisted into a grotesque mask of pure, unbridled fury.

"I am the Sun Emperor!" Meriel roared, his magically amplified voice shaking the massive stone pillars flanking the high doors.

"I am the living, breathing avatar of the divine dawn!"

"You are nothing but a freezing, forgotten shadow begging for the light!"

Meriel lunged forward, crossing the massive high landing with terrifying, god-like speed.

He thrust the blazing star-spear forward, aiming to incinerate Kai’s heart in a single, devastating strike.

Kai did not attempt to dodge the blistering attack.

He brought the Void-Star Fang up in a flash of purple light, catching the heavy, burning spear tip directly against his glass crossguard.

The heavy collision of Divine Solar Plasma and Absolute Zero sent a catastrophic, deafening shockwave ripping across the high mountain peak.

Thick clouds of scalding steam and freezing blue fog exploded outward, blinding the sky above the capital.

"You think a stolen, dirty dagger can stop the core of a dying star?" Meriel grunted, pushing his immense physical weight against the locked weapons.

"Your frozen magic is already weeping under my divine heat."

Kai held his ground effortlessly, his boots anchored firmly to the frosted brass.

"Look closer, false god," Kai whispered, his glowing starlight eyes locking onto Meriel’s burning golden gaze.

The Emperor glanced down at the point of impact.

The blazing, white-hot tip of his divine star-spear was not melting Kai’s dagger.

The purple glass blade was actively devouring the solar fire, turning the divine spear shaft a sickly, frosted blue.

"Your divine heat is terribly weak," Kai mocked softly, twisting his wrist to apply more pressure against the spear.

Meriel snarled like a wounded beast, ripping his spear back and spinning into a wide, punishing horizontal sweep.

Kai ducked low under the burning arc, bringing his left hand up to deliver a punishing, open-palm strike directly into Meriel’s chest.

A concentrated blast of zero-degree mana slammed hard into the Emperor’s flowing white silk robes.

Meriel gasped in genuine shock as the supernatural cold bypassed his thermal shields, cracking two of his ribs and sending him skidding backward across the frosted landing.

"You dare lay your filthy, common hands on me?" Meriel spat, wiping a drop of glowing golden blood from his split lip.

"I am going to rip your head off and mount it on my highest balcony."

"I am going to peel the flesh from those desert whores you brought to my city."

"You talk far too much for a man losing a fight on his own front porch," Kai laughed, taking a slow, predatory step forward.

"Shut your mouth!" Meriel bellowed, raising his star-spear high above his head.

The Emperor began chanting rapidly in the ancient, forbidden tongue of the Sun-Priests.

The heavy storm clouds above the capital parted, revealing a blinding, concentrated beam of raw sunlight that struck the tip of his spear.

"I will reduce you to floating ash!" Meriel screamed, his golden eyes flaring with unstable, apocalyptic power.

"Solar Annihilation!"

Meriel hurled the blazing spear directly at Kai’s chest, releasing a massive, blinding wave of divine fire that consumed the entire upper landing.

The heat was so intense it began melting the ancient stone pillars framing the massive double doors into glowing slag.

Kai stood perfectly still in the center of the approaching inferno.

He triggered his class perk: [Glacial Resonance].

He raised his left hand, opening his palm wide toward the apocalyptic wall of fire.

"Winter rejects your dawn," Kai commanded.

The massive, blinding wave of solar fire collided hard with Kai’s invisible domain barrier.

The divine heat did not burn his silk robes.

It suffered a sudden, horrific thermal death.

The roaring flames sputtered and died in a fraction of a second, leaving the massive star-spear hanging helplessly in mid-air, trapped inside a thick block of unyielding blue ice.

Meriel stared at the frozen spear in mute, paralyzing horror.

"That is impossible," the Emperor breathed out, his voice cracking with unfiltered panic.

"That strike carries the raw, untamed power of the sun."

"Your sun is setting," Kai replied smoothly, walking right past the frozen spear.

Kai snapped his cold fingers, and the trapped star-spear shattered into a million harmless, brittle blue fragments.

"Guards!" Meriel shouted frantically, stumbling backward over the threshold into the massive, opulent throne room.

"Paladins! Slay this rogue heretic!"

Kai laughed, a cold, ruthless sound that echoed across the quiet, freezing mountain peak.

"Your elite Paladins are currently bleeding out at the bottom of the stairs," Kai informed him, advancing with slow, inevitable grace into the grand hall.

"Your massive brass golems are shattered pieces of junk."

"Your floating galleons are trapped uselessly behind my sky-shield."

"You are all alone, Meriel."

Meriel scrambled backward across the polished marble floor, his arrogant facade breaking into pure, pathetic desperation.

"I still control the continental leylines!" Meriel yelled, rushing toward the massive, burning solar throne sitting at the far end of the long hall.

"I will overload the city’s thermal core and bury us both under a mountain of molten rock!"

Kai watched him run, shaking his head in mild, genuine disappointment.

"You are a terrible listener," Kai sighed, stepping deeper into the grand hall.

Kai reached into his silk robes and pulled out the [Frozen Ley-Spark].

He held the hyper-dense, glowing blue crystal up high for the Emperor to see.

Meriel froze in his tracks, his golden eyes widening in profound dread as he recognized the stolen fragment of his own continental authority.

"You broke the provincial node," Meriel whispered, his hands trembling helplessly at his sides.

"I broke your pathetic empire," Kai corrected him softly.

Kai tossed the heavy blue crystal directly onto the polished marble floor.

The heavy ley-spark rolled rapidly across the long hall, coming to a gentle stop right at the base of Meriel’s burning solar throne.

"Let me show you how a real sovereign claims a room," Kai stated.

Kai pushed a massive, terrifying pulse of Absolute Zero directly into the floorboards.

The freezing mana raced across the long hall, connecting instantly with the fallen Ley-Spark.

A catastrophic, deafening blast of blue winter magic erupted from the crystal, instantly swallowing the massive solar throne whole.

The towering seat of woven sun-gold turned a sickly, frosted blue before shattering into a massive pile of useless, frozen rubble.

The opulent silk banners hanging from the high vaulted ceiling froze solid and crashed to the floor like heavy, broken glass.

Meriel fell heavily to his knees, shivering uncontrollably as the supernatural cold invaded his bones.

His glowing white silk robes turned stiff and heavy with creeping frost.

"Please," Meriel choked out, his breath pluming into thick white mist as he looked up at the approaching Winter King.

"We can share the vast continent, Kai."

"You can rule the southern wastelands without any Imperial interference."

"I will gladly give you all the profitable trade routes."

"Just let me keep my life."

Kai stopped directly in front of the kneeling Emperor, looking down at him with cold, glowing starlight eyes.

"You sound just like those corrupt, fat merchants begging for their lives in the outer rings," Kai noted with deep disgust.

"A true king dies standing on his feet."

Kai reached down, grabbing Meriel roughly by his frosted white hair and forcefully yanking his head back.

"Look at me," Kai demanded softly.

Meriel whimpered, his golden eyes filled with pathetic, begging tears as he met Kai’s unyielding gaze.

"This massive city is mine," Kai whispered right against the Emperor’s freezing face.

"Your vast, undefeated armies are mine."

"Your miserable life belongs to the winter."

Kai drove the Void-Star Fang directly upward, plunging the glowing purple blade straight through the center of Meriel’s chest.

The Mythic dagger pierced the Emperor’s divine heart with a sickening, wet crunch.

Kai injected his entire remaining mana pool directly into the fatal wound.

Meriel let out a horrific, gurgling gasp as the Absolute Zero flash-froze his internal organs in a fraction of a second.

His divine golden blood turned into solid red icicles pushing aggressively out through his pale skin.

The glowing solar tattoos marking his muscular arms faded into a dull, dead gray.

Kai forcefully twisted the purple glass hilt to ensure the damage was permanent.

Meriel’s body went totally rigid, his jaw locked open in a permanent, silent scream of horrific thermal death.

Kai ripped his glowing blade free, stepping back to watch the false god fall.

Emperor Meriel crashed heavily onto the frosted marble floor, his body shattering into several large, frozen chunks of pale meat and brittle bone.

Kai exhaled a long, slow breath, letting the heavy combat adrenaline finally fade from his tired veins.

He casually wiped the Void-Star Fang clean on a piece of Meriel’s ruined white silk robe before returning the blade to its sheath.

He walked over to the pile of frozen rubble that used to be the legendary solar throne.

Resting near the shattered gold was the Emperor’s heavy, ornate crown.

Kai picked the heavy golden circlet up from the frozen floor.

His freezing mana instantly smothered the residual heat radiating from the metal, turning the bright gold into a dull, frosted silver.

Heavy leather footsteps echoed rapidly up the frozen grand staircase outside.

Yena and Zara burst into the ruined throne room, both breathing heavily and covered in the dark blood of the fallen Paladins.

They stopped in their tracks, staring in profound awe at the massive, frozen hall and the shattered remains of the Sun Emperor scattered across the floor.

"You really did it," Yena breathed out, leaning heavily against her ice-tipped spear.

"You killed a living god."

"He was no god," Kai replied smoothly, turning around to face his two fierce commanders.

"He was just a very loud, very arrogant man."

Zara walked slowly toward him, her amber eyes tracking the heavy silver crown resting in his hands.

"The lower city has officially surrendered, my King," Zara reported, dropping to one knee on the frosted marble in a rare display of genuine, unwavering loyalty.

"The remaining Dawnguard threw down their weapons the moment the solar throne shattered."

"Helios belongs to the Winter King."

Yena walked up the long hall, stepping carefully over Meriel’s frozen arm, until she stood right in front of Kai.

She looked up at his handsome, unyielding face, her heart swelling with fierce, possessive pride.

"You brought me his crown, just like you promised," Yena smiled softly, reaching out to trace the dark bite mark she had left on his neck.

Kai reached out, gently brushing a stray lock of dark hair away from her tired, beautiful face.

He lifted the heavy, frosted silver crown and placed it firmly upon his own head.

"I told you I was going to remake this broken world, Yena," Kai stated, his deep voice echoing with terrifying, absolute authority through the silent hall.

"The desert is dead."

"The sun has finally fallen."

Kai turned his glowing starlight eyes toward the massive open balcony overlooking the conquered, freezing metropolis.

"Now, the real empire begins."
