Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Is Young Uncle Praising Her?

"Ivy Sherwood, what nonsense are you spouting!" Ruby Sterling shot to her feet.

"We are pressing charges, but we’re pressing them against you! My daughter said it was you who did this to her. Stop with your hypocritical act. How could my husband possibly harm my own daughter? You, on the other hand, are always jealous of our Thea. You can’t stand the sight of her. You’re just as vicious as your mother!"

SLAP! Ivy Sherwood raised her hand and slapped Ruby Sterling across the face.

"I told you, no one gets to insult my mother." Her mother was Ivy’s red line.

Ruby Sterling clutched her face. "You actually dared to hit me? I’m your elder! You have no respect for your superiors!"

She tried to hit Ivy, but Ivy shoved her away.

"Thea Sherwood, it’s truly pathetic that you have parents like these. What’s even more pathetic is that you still think they’re good people who treat you well. You’re hopelessly stupid."

"Whatever harm you’ve suffered is none of my business. The only reason I’m standing here, advising you to call the police and protect yourself, is because we are both women. Whether you report it or forgive your abuser has nothing to do with me."

"You’re an adult. I just hope you won’t regret taking the wrong path."

With that, Ivy Sherwood turned and left.

She had said all she needed to say. As for what Thea chose to do, that was her own business.

Behind her, Thea Sherwood mulled over Ivy’s words. ’Should I call the police? But...’

"Thea, don’t you believe a word that Ivy says. She even dared to hit me! Your father and I love you more than anyone in this world. How could we possibly harm you? If you believe her, you’ll break my heart. Thea, tell me, what exactly happened?"

Thea tearfully recounted what had happened. After listening, Ruby Sterling cursed Timothy Sherwood a thousand times in her head.

"How could it be him? He must have been drunk and didn’t realize it was you. This wasn’t his fault. The person who took you to the hotel is the real monster. I will make sure that person pays."

"You said the person who brought you works at Ivy’s shop, right? Then Ivy must have been behind it. Don’t worry, Thea. Mommy will get revenge for you. I won’t let Ivy get away with this!"

"Thank you, Mommy..." Thea hugged Ruby Sterling tightly.

’Mommy’s right. How could I listen to Ivy and suspect my own father?’

...

Ivy Sherwood went downstairs. Timothy Sherwood was still there.

Without a single glance at him, Ivy left the Sherwood house.

’Timothy Sherwood was definitely behind this. And he’ll surely convince Thea to keep quiet about it.’

’Anyway, I’ve already told Thea everything I needed to. If she has half a brain, she knows what to do.’

Ivy Sherwood got back in her car. She still had work to finish and had originally planned to go back to the office.

But it was already ten o’clock. She wouldn’t get much done if she went now. ’I might as well go home, get some sleep, and deal with it tomorrow,’ she thought.

Just as she was about to start the engine, she noticed a somewhat familiar car not far away.

The man smoking outside it was even more familiar.

Ivy Sherwood quickly got out of her car and ran over.

"Quentin Blackwood? Are you here for me?" Ivy couldn’t believe it. ’Why is Quentin Blackwood here?’

She rubbed her eyes, feeling like she was in a dream.

Seeing Ivy, Quentin Blackwood extinguished the cigarette in his hand. His tone was unreadable. "Where’s Silas Blackwood? He’s not with you?"

If Quentin hadn’t mentioned Silas Blackwood, Ivy would have almost forgotten about him. "He probably went back a long time ago. Are you looking for Silas, Uncle?"

"Yes," Quentin Blackwood conceded.

Otherwise, he would have no way to explain why he was here.

After receiving Ivy’s call and hearing what she had to say, he had been too worried to stay away, so he came over.

Ivy was a little confused. ’If Quentin was looking for him, why didn’t he just call Silas directly, or go to the Blackwood estate?’

"I parted ways with him a while ago. If you’re looking for him, wouldn’t it be better to call him?"

"No need. It’s nothing important. I’ll talk to him tomorrow."

Quentin Blackwood looked Ivy over. She was in one piece, so it seemed she had gotten out of the Sherwood house safely.

"What happened?" Ivy hadn’t been very clear on the phone.

"It’s nothing, really. Just that Timothy Sherwood sold Thea for money. What makes me angry is that a man like him isn’t just unfit to be a father—he’s not even fit to be human."

"If I were better looking, do you think I would have been the one he sold?"

Quentin Blackwood’s breath caught. Under the lights, a golden glow seemed to envelop Ivy.

Her gaze was lowered, revealing her exceptionally long eyelashes. Her plain face was filled with sorrow.

"Unfortunately, I was a step too late. Thea must have suffered a lot. From the looks of it, she probably won’t report it to the police."

Without a doubt, if Ivy weren’t intentionally making herself look ugly, Timothy Sherwood would have sold her world-stunning beauty a thousand times over.

"Not everyone would be as brave as you," Quentin Blackwood said, his crisp voice especially pleasant in the night air.

And not everyone would be as magnanimous as Ivy, helping their own enemy.

Ivy was doing this for Thea’s own good, but Thea wouldn’t necessarily see it that way.

They saw the world differently, so they acted on different principles.

Ivy paused for a moment. "Are you complimenting me?"

"Have you considered the potential impact and consequences of your actions?"

Ivy nodded. It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about it. "I know. Barging into Charlie Rhodes’s room like that and interrupting his... fun... he must be furious. He’ll probably come after me later."

"No regrets?"

Ivy said, "I’d only regret it if I hadn’t gone today. Just assume I had a moment of madness."

Quentin Blackwood spoke. "If you know people are going to come after you, then you need to climb so high that no one can touch you."

Ivy knew that Quentin was speaking the truth.

When Quentin Blackwood first arrived at the Blackwood family home, anyone could bully him. But now, who wouldn’t respectfully call him Master Blackwood?

"I’ll work hard."

’I’ll strive to become like him one day.’

Quentin didn’t say anything more. Instead, he asked, "Have you eaten?"

"You haven’t eaten?"

Ivy had taken a few bites with Silas Blackwood, but who could have an appetite eating with him? Besides, he hadn’t ordered anything she liked.

"No," Quentin said.

"Then I haven’t eaten either. I know a small place with pretty good food. If you wouldn’t mind, President Blackwood, how about I treat you to a meal?"

Quentin Blackwood looked at Ivy’s sparkling eyes and nodded. "Okay."

"Did you bring a driver?" Ivy asked.

"I did." Quentin rarely drove himself when he went out.

"Then have your driver take my car back for me. I’ll drive you." Taking two cars would be a hassle.

If Silas Blackwood heard that, he would probably cough up blood from anger. After all, when he had asked Ivy to be his driver, she hadn’t even bothered to acknowledge him.

Quentin just looked at her without saying anything, making Ivy think he didn’t trust her driving skills.

"Don’t worry, I’m a very good driver."

However, Quentin opened the passenger-side door. "Get in. I don’t make a habit of having women drive me."
