Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Old Beast
"Godfather, my daughter is still so young! This is absolutely out of the question!"
Sending his wife over was one thing, but how could he possibly send his daughter into this devil’s hands?
But Charlie Rhodes was already sipping his tea calmly. He set the cup down, and the flesh on his face seemed to droop.
"I haven’t said a thing. Where is your mind going?"
"I just feel for Jade. I thought it must have been hard for her to raise two daughters like that, and I was even thinking of giving her a few hundred million to spend. But now it seems Jade might not be interested in my pocket change," Charlie Rhodes said in a regretful tone.
How could Timothy Sherwood not understand what this old beast meant? His fists clenched. If it weren’t for the old man’s money, and the hell to pay for hitting him, Timothy would have lashed out already.
But Thea was still so young. He couldn’t possibly push his own daughter into the abyss.
However, this money was too important to him. It was his lifeline. If he couldn’t get it, the company would be finished.
"Godfather, my daughter is really not an option. Why don’t you see if there’s anyone else you have your eye on? I’ll make it happen for you!"
Charlie Rhodes replied at a leisurely pace, "Timothy Sherwood, since you’re such a family man, why aren’t you at home with your daughter at this hour? What are you doing here?"
Timothy Sherwood’s eyes were bloodshot. He opened his mouth but couldn’t say a single word.
"Godfather, my company’s been having some cash flow problems recently. How about you just consider it a loan?"
"A loan? That’s not impossible."
Timothy Sherwood was overjoyed to hear this, but his happiness lasted only a few seconds before Charlie Rhodes spoke again.
"To borrow money from me, you have to leave something behind. Even though you’re my goddaughter’s husband, there are no exceptions. An arm or a leg will do."
Timothy Sherwood’s face instantly turned pale again. "Godfather, I really can’t! I can’t!"
Charlie Rhodes had lost his patience. He ordered the bodyguards at the door, "Then there’s nothing more to talk about. Throw him out."
"No, no, no! Godfather, Godfather! Actually, I have another daughter. Why don’t you take a look at her?" Timothy Sherwood suddenly thought of Ivy Sherwood.
"Bring me a picture. Let me see."
Timothy Sherwood walked over with his phone and found a video of Ivy Sherwood. There were videos of her online from her engagement to Silas Blackwood, and you could also find the livestream from her store’s grand opening today.
Timothy Sherwood showed him the video. The moment Charlie Rhodes saw the girl’s face, he became furious.
"Timothy Sherwood, are you messing with me? Who are you trying to fool with such an ugly woman?" Charlie Rhodes waved his hand dismissively. "Throw him out!"
Just like that, Timothy Sherwood was thrown out of the hotel. He scrambled to his feet, looking utterly humiliated.
’Thea is my daughter. She’s still so young, she’s never even had a boyfriend. It’s out of the question, no matter what.’
’Then again, that old lecher is in his sixties or seventies. He probably can’t perform much in *that* department. If it’s just for a bit of fun...’
Timothy Sherwood quickly pushed the thought aside. ’That old beast is an animal, but I’m not. How could I sell my own daughter!’
...
Timothy Sherwood had no idea that the daughter he thought was ugly was actually a peerless beauty.
And Ivy Sherwood had no idea that she had just escaped a disaster because of the ugly face she had been creating with makeup since she was a child.
Her mother had told her when she was little that beauty is a double-edged sword. While it can bring you many benefits, it can also lead to your utter ruin.
Her mother only wanted her to grow up healthy, to be an ordinary person, the kind you wouldn’t be able to pick out of a crowd. Her mother just wanted her to live well.
After closing up the shop, Ivy Sherwood went with Nina Scott for a celebration dinner.
Nina Scott first took Ivy to her place, then immediately started removing Ivy’s makeup.
"What are you doing, Nina?"
"Don’t worry, Ivy! I’m just taking your makeup off, not putting any on. You’ve been so tired lately. Today’s a rare happy occasion, so I’m taking you out to relax and rediscover your youth!"
As she spoke, Nina Scott deftly removed Ivy’s makeup.
Ivy’s skin was fair, tender, and delicate—flawlessly smooth. Her bright eyes sparkled with a captivating light, shining like stars.
Her exquisite features, set on that face, were simply stunning, making everything else pale in comparison.
"So beautiful! If I were a man, I’d marry you in a heartbeat!" Nina Scott lamented once again that she hadn’t been born a man.
"Are we going out like this?" Ivy Sherwood looked at herself in the mirror, a little nervous.
"Of course." Nina Scott then tied Ivy’s hair into a high ponytail and handed her a set of clothes. "Hurry up and change."
"Is this... a Lustre U uniform?"
Ivy Sherwood had graduated from university at twenty-two and had been out of school for almost two years now. This uniform held a lot of memories.
"Yep! Like I said, I’m helping you rediscover your youth. Quick, change! I’m changing too."
Ivy and Nina Scott quickly changed into the uniforms. The Lustre U uniform consisted of a white blouse and a short skirt.
With their makeup-free faces, high ponytails, and these outfits, they looked exactly like college students. The two of them could pass for freshmen—with faces that young, someone might even believe they were still in high school.
"Let’s go, Ivy!" Nina Scott grabbed Ivy. She had said they were going for steak, but she ended up taking her to the back gate of Lustre U, where a street food alley came alive every night.
As they walked down the street, Ivy turned practically every single head. Quite a few people even took out their phones to snap pictures.
Some people even came up to ask what class they were in. Ivy didn’t answer. In the end, she had to put on a mask before fewer people came to bother them.
Nina Scott and Ivy went to a hot pot restaurant, their favorite spot from their university days.
After finishing the hot pot, there was a bar next door. Nina dragged Ivy there for a drink. The bartender looked at the two of them and asked bluntly, "Are you two of age?"
The two pulled out their IDs, and only then did the bartender relax and serve them their drinks.
They were so happy that Ivy and Nina drank a lot, talking about everything from their childhoods all the way through high school and college.
There were many students around the university area. It was a place to escape from society, free from its heavy atmosphere, filled only with the exuberance of youth.
Her face, unhidden by makeup, began to flush a deep red from the alcohol. Finally, Ivy collapsed onto the table, looking like she had fallen asleep.
"Ivy, you drank too much. I’ll... I’ll take you home." Seeing Ivy slumped over, Nina Scott tried to help her up, but she nearly fell to the ground herself.
Ivy was also drowsy. She fumbled with her phone, squinting at it for a long time. "I called... called a driver."
Before they started drinking, Ivy had already arranged for a driver to come pick them up.
’When you have no one to rely on, you always have to think of everything in advance.’
Which one was the driver’s number? Ivy tried to look for it, but the screen was a dizzying blur, and she couldn’t find it at all.
"Let me see." Nina Scott took Ivy’s phone, holding it close to her face and squinting.
She asked, "What did you save the driver’s contact as?"
Ivy tried to lift her head, but it felt too heavy.
"Just... ’Driver’..."
"’Driver’..." Nina mumbled, scrolling through the contacts.
Her eyes blurred as she scanned the list of names. "I don’t see it," she muttered.
Nina searched again, and her finger finally stopped on an entry.
She couldn’t make out the name clearly, but it looked plausible enough, so she just tapped the number and dialed.
A moment later, the call was answered.
"Hello?" A magnetic voice came through the phone.
Nina嘟囔着:"你叫的司机声音还挺好听的,喏,给你!"
She handed the phone to Ivy.
