Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Another Enemy
Getting the fans to leave was no easy task. Even though the movie star was gone, the effect of his presence lingered.
It took several hours for the crowd of fans to finally thin out. Only then did the mall become less congested, giving Julian Grant and his group an opportunity to leave.
Before leaving, Cheryl Yates approached Ivy Sherwood to speak with her.
"Ivy Sherwood, we haven’t properly met before, but I genuinely want to be your friend."
"You’re too kind, Miss Yates." Ivy didn’t believe Cheryl actually wanted to be her friend. ’She must have an ulterior motive.’
"You know the Yates Family’s standing in Lustre. If I give you a little promotion, your store will never be short of customers."
Cheryl Yates extended an olive branch, but Ivy understood perfectly well. ’There’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world.’
"Thank you, Miss Yates, but when it comes to my business, I prefer to build it myself, step by step. If people only buy my products because you promoted them, and not because they genuinely like the products themselves, then it would be a waste of your kindness."
Ivy’s rejection was so blatant that Cheryl’s expression instantly frosted over.
"So you’re saying you don’t want to be my friend?"
"That’s not what I meant. I just have very few friends. It would be you who’s getting the short end of the stick if we became friends."
The friendliness in Cheryl’s eyes vanished. "Ivy Sherwood, I’ll stop wasting my breath. I like Quentin Blackwood. You’re going to be part of the Blackwood Family in the future, so we might even end up as family."
"I want to ask Quentin Blackwood out. If you can help me, I’ll agree to any condition you name."
Cheryl had always been direct and was, in truth, an incredibly arrogant person. She used to feel that no man in the world was worthy of her—until the day she saw Quentin Blackwood.
She had never been the one to make the first move, so this was a first. And even though she had been rejected, Cheryl wasn’t ready to give up.
"Miss Yates, I’m afraid I can’t help with that. If you want to ask him out, shouldn’t you be the one to tell him personally?"
If she had been able to ask Quentin Blackwood out herself, she wouldn’t be here in the first place.
"Ivy Sherwood, helping me can only benefit you. Let’s say I’m your friend now. The next time you visit the Blackwood estate, you can invite me over as your guest." Cheryl thought she had it all figured out.
That way, she could visit as Ivy’s friend and get to have a meal with Quentin Blackwood.
However, Ivy immediately shattered her fantasy.
"I’m sorry, but Quentin Blackwood doesn’t live at the Blackwood estate, nor does he eat there. If you truly like him, Miss Yates, then you should pursue him yourself. I have other matters to attend to, so I won’t see you out."
Cheryl glared at Ivy’s retreating back. ’This Ivy Sherwood... so she’s choosing the hard way after refusing the easy way?’
’It’s just helping me get a date with Quentin Blackwood, a simple thing for her to do! And I stood here for hours today!’
After Ivy had drawn such a clear line, Cheryl certainly wasn’t about to swallow her pride and back down.
’Since Ivy is so ungrateful, she can’t blame me for what happens next. I’ll tell every socialite in Lustre not to buy a single thing from her!’
As Ivy got back to work, Nina quietly came over. "What did Cheryl Yates just say to you?"
"Nothing much. She wanted me to help her get a date with Quentin Blackwood."
Nina’s eyes widened. "And you agreed?"
"Are you kidding? If I had the power to get a date with Quentin Blackwood, why wouldn’t I use it on myself?"
"That’s true. It’s a classic case of wishful thinking. She acts like she’s some unparalleled beauty that every man should fall for. But you need to be careful. She seems poised and generous on the surface, but she’s actually incredibly petty. She might try to get back at you."
Nina couldn’t stand Cheryl’s attitude. Besides, Cheryl was friends with Yara Scott, and Nina despised Yara more than anyone.
"Get back at me? But I didn’t do anything." ’She wouldn’t go that far, would she?’ Ivy thought.
"Trust me. Anyone who’s friends with Yara Scott is no good."
"Of course I trust you. I’ll be careful."
’Don’t harbor ill intentions, but always be on your guard.’
Thanks to the "movie star effect," Ivy had never imagined her grand opening would be this successful.
In just two hours, they were completely sold out.
The official website was getting so much traffic that the server crashed, and everyone was waiting for Ivy to restock.
Ivy was out of stock now, and the factory was rushing production. But Ivy prioritized quality over speed; she had to ensure every single bottle of perfume that left Iris was up to standard.
It wasn’t even noon, and Ivy could have already closed up shop. But it was the first day, so even with no stock left, she had to stay for the full business hours.
Throughout the afternoon, more people continued to visit the shop. It was safe to say that the Iris brand now had no shortage of name recognition.
This was the flagship store, and its success had caused the other few branches to sell out as well.
It seemed that ever since Landon Jacobs’s arrival, a dark cloud had been hanging over the once-sunny Milo Jacobs. He became quiet, often spacing out as if lost in thought.
Perhaps seeing Landon had made him feel a sense of inadequacy.
’Or maybe, there was more to Milo’s story.’
Ivy walked over to him. "Why are you all by yourself looking so glum?"
Milo forced a smile. "I’m not. I’m happy. Congratulations, Boss Sherwood."
"I should be thanking you. You were a huge help today."
"No, I didn’t do anything to help. It was all Lan... Landon Jacobs’s doing."
’He just showed up and said hello, and it had such a huge impact. I’ll probably never be able to surpass him in this lifetime.’
Ivy shook her head. "Everyone contributed. His contribution was just the biggest. For him to get where he is today, he must have put in a lot of hard work we don’t see. He earned it."
"And I believe that one day, you’ll shine brightly in your own field, and your influence will be just as great as his!"
After listening, Milo let out a soft chuckle. "Thank you, Ivy."
"Don’t mention it. This is a big bonus for you. Go home and get some rest." Ivy took out a red envelope.
"Thanks."
Milo Jacobs left around noon, leaving just Ivy and Nina in the store.
In the afternoon, Ivy did a quick tally of the sales figures. Nina, looking on from the side, was stunned.
"Ivy, you’re amazing!" Nina couldn’t help but exclaim.
Ivy knew that this wasn’t her accomplishment alone. The real test would be the product’s long-term performance and customer satisfaction. Only that would be a victory she could truly call her own.
"Tonight, we’re going out for a big celebration dinner!" Ivy said, just as happy.
"Okay! I want steak!"
"No problem."
"Two steaks!"
"Also no problem."
When it was time to close, Ivy didn’t even bother locking the door. After all, the store was completely empty now, so she wasn’t afraid of it being trashed.
Not far away, a pair of malicious eyes stared in the direction Ivy had gone...
