Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Booking a Room, Accompanying the Godfather
Ivy Sherwood had thought Timothy Sherwood would come looking for trouble after he got out. But after waiting for two days, she realized he hadn’t made a move.
That day, Ivy drove home after finishing work.
Her route home always took her past that hotel.
Even though her ’uncle’ no longer stayed there, Ivy couldn’t help but steal a couple of extra glances each time.
This time, Ivy saw a familiar face.
’Timothy Sherwood? What is he doing here?’
Ivy parked her car not far away and walked into the hotel lobby.
Ivy heard Timothy Sherwood’s voice. He was booking a room—the most luxurious presidential suite—and even asked if they could decorate it to create a "romantic, adult atmosphere."
Ivy frowned as she listened. ’What is Timothy Sherwood trying to do?’
’The most luxurious one... that must be the one Quentin Blackwood booked before.’
Even though she had only stayed there for two nights, Ivy couldn’t bear the thought of Timothy Sherwood lying on that bed and doing... *that* with someone else.
The room had likely been booked by others since, but it couldn’t be Timothy Sherwood.
Even though she knew Timothy Sherwood would probably tear her to shreds if she appeared now, she strode over anyway. "Timothy Sherwood, still have money for a hotel room?"
Timothy Sherwood whipped around. The moment he saw Ivy, his expression turned vicious. "Ivy Sherwood! How dare you show your face to me! I don’t have a daughter named you anymore! Get lost!"
If it weren’t for Ivy, he wouldn’t have been locked up for days.
If Ivy had just agreed, the Walker Family’s funds would have come through, and he wouldn’t have to resort to this for money!
Who would willingly let his own wife go and entertain her ’godfather’?
A man in his sixties or seventies!
"What are you booking this room for?"
"None of your damn business! Get lost!" ’This is a family disgrace. How could I let Ivy find out?’
’If anyone else found out that I orchestrated this, that I let my wife be with another man...’
’What kind of man would that make me?!’
The more Timothy Sherwood acted this way, the more certain Ivy was that something was wrong.
Ivy recited a room number. "I’ll take this room."
She knew it was expensive—a six-figure sum for a single night. The last time she stayed, she had hesitated. But now, Ivy didn’t pause for a second.
’No matter what, I can’t let Timothy Sherwood have this room.’
"Ivy Sherwood! Are you doing this just to spite me?"
It wasn’t that he hadn’t sent people to cause trouble for her after he got out; they just hadn’t succeeded.
That, on top of the company’s problems, had left Timothy Sherwood completely frazzled.
"You’re overthinking it. I’m just here to book a room," Ivy said, pulling out her card. "Please book that suite for me, thank you."
She knew this one charge would cost a fortune, but she didn’t feel a shred of regret.
The staff member checked for her. "I’m sorry, miss, but that suite is currently occupied."
"It’s occupied?" Ivy realized she had acted impulsively, not even bothering to check if someone was already staying there.
"Then when are they checking out?" Ivy asked.
The staff member shook their head. "The suite has been booked long-term by a guest. We have not yet received any notice of them checking out."
Such an expensive presidential suite had been empty most of the time before.
But then a VIP suddenly booked it for an extended period.
That important figure hadn’t seemed to visit for a long time, but the booking was never canceled, so the suite had been sitting empty recently.
Of course, this was all internal hotel information that she couldn’t possibly reveal.
"Alright, I understand. Thank you."
With that, Ivy was relieved.
Ivy turned and left without giving Timothy Sherwood a second glance.
"Ivy Sherwood!" Timothy Sherwood cursed, about to chase after her.
The staff member asked, "Sir, would you still like to book a room?"
Only then did Timothy Sherwood remember his task. Instead of chasing Ivy, he turned back to book a different room.
...
「Norhaven.」
Quentin Blackwood was listening to a subordinate report on recent events.
It could be said that he had his finger on the pulse of everything happening in Lustre, big or small.
There were recent disagreements among the internal shareholders of the Blackwood Group. Facing powerful rivals in recent years, the company was plagued by growing problems. Caleb Blackwood was at his wit’s end trying to secure investments and had been seeking Quentin Blackwood’s help frequently these past few days.
But Quentin Blackwood refused to see him. After all, he was the one shorting the Blackwood Group from within.
Although the Blackwood Group’s assets were peanuts to him, he had sworn when his mother died that he would make the Blackwoods pay. He would take everything from them.
Quentin Blackwood was also aware of the Sherwood Company’s situation; Timothy Sherwood was now at a dead end.
He’d heard that Charlie Rhodes was coming to Lustre in a few days. While Charlie Rhodes did have some influence in Veridia, it was mostly for show.
The man had been a womanizer since he was young, with a particular fondness for younger women. He loved to "adopt" goddaughters, but in reality, his relationships with them were all sordid and improper.
His body had been ravaged by his debauchery years ago, leaving him largely impotent. Now, at his advanced age, the spirit was willing, but the flesh was weak; he still had the appetite but lacked the ability to satisfy it.
His men had also discovered that Timothy Sherwood’s wife was apparently one of Charlie Rhodes’s ’goddaughters’.
His purpose in coming this time was likely not so simple.
A short while later, another person entered the study.
"President Blackwood, we’ve found some information about your mother."
At the mention of his mother, Quentin Blackwood’s eyes darkened. A chill emanated from his gaze, and the atmosphere in the study instantly grew heavy and oppressive, as if frozen solid.
"Speak!"
’His mother had been a strong person. In his memory, no matter what happened or what injustices she suffered, she would always be smiling.’
’Ever since he was a child, his mother had told him that he had to survive. Only by surviving was there hope.’
’And yet, after all that, his mother had killed herself.’
’He had always believed that the Blackwood Family had driven her to a point where she could no longer live, forcing her to choose to end her own life.’
’The Blackwoods were all cold-blooded, ruthless people. By the time he saw his mother again, she was already a handful of ashes. He never even got to see her one last time.’
’His mother wasn’t even allowed into the Blackwood family cemetery; they wanted to just bury her somewhere random. It was Quentin who had snatched the urn away. But with all his savings, he couldn’t even afford a single plot in the most remote of cemeteries.’
’Someone had helped him. It was probably just a child. She had put a card in an envelope, along with a letter. The letter said it was her saved-up allowance, told him the PIN, and urged him not to be sad.’
’Quentin used that money to bury his mother in a cemetery in the suburbs.’
’Later, when Quentin became wealthy, he could no longer find that girl.’
Seeing the frigid expression on Quentin Blackwood’s face, the subordinate who had made the inquiries reported with a tremor in his voice.
"Before your mother’s... incident, the last person to see her was Yvonne Summers."
"Yvonne Summers has a daughter named Ivy Sherwood."
