Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Was Drugged

Ivy Sherwood watched the leering men. Their smiles were repulsive, and their explicit stares made her sick.

Her eyes narrowed. She knew Gabriel Walker wouldn’t let her off the hook today.

Her gaze was sharp, and she exuded a powerful aura.

Her lips parted. "Get lost!"

The men didn’t seem to be in any hurry. Gabriel Walker even burst out laughing. "Ivy Sherwood, what gives you the right to be so defiant? I suggest you learn your place!"

Although Gabriel Walker feared Quentin Blackwood, he had also done his research. Quentin didn’t just help anyone; his intervention on Ivy Sherwood’s behalf must have been a fluke.

"Do you really think you can escape tonight?"

With that, Gabriel Walker led the other men into the restroom and shut the door behind them.

Ivy Sherwood felt a heat spreading through her body. Her breathing grew shallow and rapid, and it felt as if insects were crawling and gnawing away at her from the inside.

Ivy Sherwood realized something was wrong. "Did you drug me?"

Gabriel Walker smirked. "We didn’t drug you."

Ivy Sherwood’s gaze fell on a stick of incense. She’d initially assumed it was just an air freshener for the restroom, but now it seemed there was more to it. The incense was likely laced with an aphrodisiac.

These men had deliberately stalled for time, probably to make her inhale more of the scented smoke.

"Stay back!" Ivy Sherwood stumbled backward, but the restroom was small. There was nowhere for her to go.

Soon, her back hit the wall, leaving her with no escape.

Ivy Sherwood fumbled in her bag and pulled out a small, sharp knife. Her cheeks were already flushed, her body growing weak. She brandished the blade, glaring viciously at the men before her. "Stay back!"

A blade has no eyes. Two of the men, afraid of getting cut, hesitated to advance.

"What are you afraid of? She’s just one woman! How can she possibly fight all of us?" Gabriel Walker himself backed away, hiding behind his men as he barked orders.

"Get on with it! Rip her clothes off!"

"Go on! You guys love this sort of thing, don’t you? Whoever gets her first and records it, Miss Nash will pay five hundred thousand!"

Gabriel Walker found her too ugly to touch; he wasn’t the least bit aroused. Still, he couldn’t stand Ivy Sherwood’s defiance. No matter what, he was determined to ruin her tonight.

Besides, Anna Nash had promised that if he pulled this off, she would set up a meeting for him with Silas Blackwood.

If he could secure a partnership with the Blackwood Group, his status at home would skyrocket. He’d finally be able to hold his head high in front of his wife and father-in-law.

Ivy Sherwood caught the keywords. ’Miss Nash... Anna Nash?’

"Was it Anna Nash who put you up to this? What did she offer you?"

Gabriel Walker wasn’t a complete idiot; of course he wouldn’t reveal Anna Nash’s name.

"What are you waiting for? Get her!"

The men had also inhaled the incense and were starting to feel its effects. The woman might be a bit ugly, but five hundred thousand was a fortune. Who would turn down that kind of money, especially when they could have some fun in the process?

One man tried to snatch the knife while another grabbed Ivy Sherwood’s arm, trying to tear at her clothes.

Ivy Sherwood swung the knife wildly, but her body was growing weaker by the second, her strength rapidly fading.

...

In a private room outside, Seth Scott had met Quentin Blackwood for dinner to discuss a partnership between the Scott Group and Quentin’s DG Group.

Quentin Blackwood could never forget what the Blackwood Family had done. His return meant their good days were numbered.

In his partnership with the Scott Group, they were merely a blade in his hand.

He was no saint. In the world of business, using a borrowed blade to kill was a common tactic.

Now that the Scott Family was officially in his hands, Seth not only wanted his family to supplant the Blackwood Family as the premier family in Lustre, but he also aimed to expand into Aethelgard. Thus, the partnership was mutually beneficial.

Once their discussion was over and the meal was mostly finished, Quentin, having other matters to attend to, prepared to leave.

Seth also had things to handle, so the two men got ready to depart after their meal.

The elevator was still on the first floor, so they had a moment to wait.

Seth Scott couldn’t help but glance at the man beside him. No matter where he was, Quentin Blackwood was an undeniable presence.

His eloquence and astuteness were completely different from what Seth had initially expected.

Seth had only ever heard rumors about Quentin Blackwood. Seeing him in person, he realized some men were simply born to rule the world of business.

Just then, a voice drifted over. "Mr. Carter, you don’t think something’s gone wrong, do you? I’ve got a bad feeling about this."

"What could go wrong? President Walker has it all arranged. It’s that Ivy Sherwood’s own fault for being so blind and offending him." The man called Mr. Carter lit a cigarette.

He was just doing a job for someone, after all. And Gabriel Walker paid generously.

"But with that many guys... can Miss Sherwood handle it?"

"Shut up! Is that any of our business? President Walker is the one who wants to teach her a lesson!"

Both Quentin Blackwood and Seth Scott froze at the mention of Ivy Sherwood’s name.

Before Seth Scott could even process it, Quentin Blackwood was already striding over to the men.

"Where is Ivy Sherwood?" Quentin Blackwood’s voice was so cold it could have been straight from hell.

Neither of the two men had ever seen Quentin Blackwood before. When they finally registered his presence, they looked at him with disdain. "And who are you?"

Seth Scott walked over as well. "What did you just say about Ivy Sherwood?"

"You... You’re Young Master Scott?" The man, Mr. Carter, recognized Seth.

"Where is Ivy Sherwood!" Seth demanded.

"I... I don’t know..." Mr. Carter didn’t dare to speak.

"This is your last chance," Quentin said, his eyes dangerously narrow. "Speak now, or you’ll never speak again."
