Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Kissed Her Again

Old Master Sheridan’s eyes reddened as he listened to Joy Sheridan’s words.

She was his only granddaughter, his only family. Naturally, he wanted her to live a good, happy life.

But now, Joy was actually saying she was unhappy living with him and wanted to go be with her mother and father.

He was only doing this for Joy’s own good. Having seen so many people in his life, he knew there was no affection in the way Quentin Blackwood looked at Joy.

If Joy kept pestering him, it would only make Quentin Blackwood resent her more.

He worried about Joy more than anyone, but with her temper, she was bound to suffer a lot in the future.

But now, to get to Lustre, Joy was resorting to a hunger strike, threatening him with her own death.

However, to prevent Joy from regretting it later, Old Master Sheridan could only harden his heart and forbid her from going to Lustre.

"I don’t care if you eat or not. You will stay right here at home and go nowhere!" After speaking, the old master slowly made his way upstairs, leaning on his cane.

If Joy had been more observant, she would have noticed that Old Master Sheridan’s steps were much slower than usual.

"Grandfather, just let me go! I’m begging you, Grandfather!"

However, the old master didn’t pause for even a moment, his resolve absolute.

Joy Sheridan angrily pounded the sofa. After Quentin Blackwood went to Lustre, he hadn’t come back and had barely even returned to Aethelgard.

’If Quentin Blackwood stays in Lustre any longer, he might fall right into that Ivy Sherwood’s trap.’

’I can’t leave Aethelgard right now, but is there some way to make Quentin Blackwood come back from Lustre?’

’Quentin Blackwood isn’t even answering my calls anymore. The only person who could possibly summon him is Grandfather.’

’But Grandfather would never call Quentin Blackwood. So what should I do?’

Joy Sheridan thought for a moment, and a plan suddenly formed. ’What if Grandfather got sick? If he was hospitalized with something serious, wouldn’t Quentin Blackwood have to come back?’

...

There were enough blankets in the hospital room, and the sofa on the other side was quite wide.

Ivy Sherwood said she would sleep on the sofa. Quentin Blackwood didn’t say anything, simply letting her take a blanket and go over to it.

Although Ivy Sherwood kept urging Quentin Blackwood to sleep, he still had work that needed to be done.

Ivy Sherwood had originally leaned back on the sofa, declaring that she would supervise Quentin Blackwood to make sure he didn’t stay up all night, and insisted he had to be asleep before eleven.

In the end, she didn’t last long enough to remind Quentin Blackwood to sleep and fell asleep right there on the sofa.

Quentin Blackwood glanced at the time. It was half past eleven, and Ivy Sherwood was fast asleep.

Although his work wasn’t finished, Quentin Blackwood put his laptop away.

He got up from the hospital bed and walked toward Ivy Sherwood.

Quentin Blackwood bent down, slid his arms under her shoulders and knees, and gently lifted her.

Ivy Sherwood was sleeping fitfully, not too deeply. Quentin Blackwood had dimmed the surrounding lights.

As she was placed on the bed, Ivy Sherwood’s eyelashes fluttered. Drowsy and dazed, she squinted and saw a face just inches away.

"Mm... Quentin..." she mumbled his name, not as if she was thinking, but as if she knew who he was instinctively.

Quentin Blackwood’s voice was low. "Go to sleep."

His voice was reassuring. Without a second thought, Ivy Sherwood closed her eyes and drifted off.

After placing her on the bed, Quentin Blackwood climbed in himself and turned off the light. The room fell into complete darkness, leaving only the sound of Ivy Sherwood’s quiet, almost inaudible breathing.

Ivy Sherwood had been busy with both the hospital and her work these past two days; she was truly exhausted.

’Sleep well. Good night.’

...

「The next morning.」

When Ivy Sherwood woke up, she realized that she had somehow ended up in the bed.

Beside her, Quentin Blackwood was watching the financial news on a tablet.

"I... Wasn’t I sleeping on the sofa?" Ivy Sherwood sat up.

Quentin Blackwood’s expression was natural as he lied through his teeth. "I don’t know. Maybe you were sleepwalking last night."

"Impossible. I never sleepwalk." She scooted closer and looked at Quentin Blackwood. "Don’t tell me you carried me here, did you?"

"You’re overthinking it."

"Really? It wasn’t you?" Ivy Sherwood didn’t believe him for a second.

However, Quentin Blackwood turned to look at her, his deep eyes holding an expression Ivy Sherwood couldn’t decipher.

"Do you want it to have been me that badly?"

Ivy Sherwood turned her face away. "Of course not."

Quentin Blackwood said lightly, "Maybe you just caught my scent and climbed up here yourself."

"I’m not a dog, sniffing out scents. Besides, you didn’t even shower last night. Even a dog would probably turn its nose up at you."

Quentin Blackwood’s eyes narrowed. "Even a dog would turn its nose up at me?"

"I was just kidding. That’s not what I meant," Ivy Sherwood said as she started to climb out of bed.

But before she could leave, Quentin Blackwood pulled her back. With a single motion, he flipped over, and their position became intimate.

"What do I smell like?"

Quentin Blackwood was pressing down on Ivy Sherwood. They were so close their breaths mingled.

"I... I was really just kidding." Ivy Sherwood was like a startled fawn, her eyes wide.

She had washed her face before resting last night, and now, her small face was bare of makeup, yet still beautiful and captivating.

And at this moment, that little mouth was babbling nonstop, spouting a stream of compliments.

"Actually, there’s no smell at all. Ah, no, that’s not right. President Blackwood always smells wonderful, no matter when or where."

"Is that so? What kind of wonderful smell?" Quentin Blackwood had no intention of letting Ivy Sherwood off the hook so easily.

Ivy Sherwood’s brain short-circuited. For a moment, she really couldn’t describe it.

Quentin Blackwood hadn’t exercised or even broken a sweat in the room, so naturally, there wasn’t the slightest hint of sweat on him.

Moreover, the cool, clean scent he carried was actually quite refreshing and pleasant.

"You can’t describe it?" Quentin Blackwood asked again.

Ivy Sherwood nodded. "I was really just saying whatever came to mind. I..."

Before Ivy Sherwood could finish, Quentin Blackwood leaned down and pressed his lips against hers.

The refreshing taste of mint gradually filled Ivy Sherwood’s mouth. It was obvious Quentin Blackwood had already brushed his teeth; a cool sensation lingered on his lips and teeth.

The scent that was uniquely Quentin Blackwood’s enveloped her, leaving no room to breathe.

Quentin Blackwood’s kissing skills seemed to have improved immensely. Before, he was always very rough, but recently, he seemed to have become gentler.

’It’s more like he’s become a completely different person. His whole demeanor is baffling.’

’A while ago, he was unusually irritable and inexplicably fierce, but these past few days, he’s been impossibly gentle.’

’And yesterday and today, Quentin Blackwood kissed her at the most inappropriate times and places.’

Just as Ivy Sherwood’s mind went blank, Quentin Blackwood released her. "And now? Do you know what the scent is?"

"You... I... I haven’t brushed my teeth yet!" Ivy Sherwood’s face flushed crimson.

Quentin Blackwood let out a soft chuckle. "I don’t mind, yet you’re the one who does?"

Just then, a knock came from the door. "Sir, I’ve brought your breakfast."

Hearing the voice, Ivy Sherwood’s heart jolted. It was as if she and Quentin Blackwood were doing something illicit that had just been discovered. That feeling of secrecy was just like it used to be in front of Silas Blackwood.

She pushed Quentin Blackwood away. "I’m going to go wash up."

The person in his arms had fled, but Quentin Blackwood wasn’t angry. He told the person outside to come in.

The butler, Uncle Linton, came in with the breakfast and glanced around. "Is Miss Sherwood not here?"

Quentin Blackwood said airily, "She’s shy."
