Chapter 272: Chapter 272: Ivy Sherwood Has Leverage

"Is that baby of yours really Silas Blackwood’s?" Ivy Sherwood asked lightly.

Anna Nash’s expression immediately soured. "What do you mean?"

Ivy Sherwood continued to sip her coffee. "Exactly what it sounds like."

A flicker of astonishment crossed Anna Nash’s eyes. ’This is impossible. How could Ivy Sherwood know about this?’

"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Anna Nash couldn’t possibly admit it.

Ivy Sherwood said, "I saw you at the hospital last time, getting a prenatal check-up with another man."

"What I said at the hospital—telling you not to faint—was deliberate. I wanted you to tell the media you were pregnant. That way, I could break off my engagement to Silas Blackwood."

Anna Nash was even more astonished. She never imagined Ivy Sherwood had been pulling the strings all along. ’It was all deliberate!’

"You... What do you want?" Anna Nash had always thought she was the one scheming. Now, it was clear that Ivy Sherwood was the truly formidable one.

’To think I mistook her for a harmless little flower, when she’s actually this clever.’

Ivy Sherwood said, "I don’t want anything. I don’t like Silas Blackwood, and I won’t fight you for him. I just want my mother’s ashes back. Anna Nash, you’re a smart woman. You should be able to manage that, right?"

Ivy Sherwood knew Anna Nash would stop at nothing to marry Silas Blackwood—and that Silas had brought this all on himself—but she hadn’t expected Anna to be so ruthless.

So now, using Anna Nash to retrieve her mother’s ashes was simply Ivy Sherwood beating her at her own game.

"I won’t help you. I don’t understand a word of what you just said. Besides, I’m about to marry Silas."

’Ivy Sherwood is just trying to sow discord. Maybe she’s just testing me. I can’t panic now, and I definitely can’t give myself away.’

Ivy Sherwood said, "If I tell the Blackwood Family that the baby in your belly belongs to someone else, do you think Silas Blackwood will still marry you? And after what you did to Silas, do you think Caleb Blackwood will let you off the hook?"

Looking at Anna Nash’s expression, Ivy Sherwood knew her gamble had paid off.

’It seems Anna Nash’s child really isn’t Silas Blackwood’s.’

"If I tell them, you know what will happen to you. I recall that a DNA test can be done before the baby is born. Unless you can somehow produce a child of Silas Blackwood’s right now... but it looks like that’s not happening, is it?"

"Ivy Sherwood!" Anna Nash clenched her fists, spitting out Ivy’s name as her face twisted with rage.

Ivy Sherwood’s voice wasn’t loud, but her words were crystal clear to Anna Nash.

"I’m not a meddler. Just get me what I want, and I’ll pretend I don’t know a thing. You can go on and marry Silas Blackwood, be his Mrs. Blackwood."

"Of course, don’t get any funny ideas, like trying to pull something on me. I’ve already written everything down in an email. If so much as a single hair on my head is harmed, that email will be sent directly to Caleb Blackwood’s inbox. When that happens, your ending won’t be a happy one."

"As the future Mrs. Blackwood, you have so many good days ahead of you. An endless life of luxury and riches awaits. Anna Nash, I trust you know how to weigh your options."

Anna Nash’s face was ashen. ’How could this woman be so terrifying?’

’She had really underestimated Ivy Sherwood. To think she actually had a few tricks up her sleeve.’

’But she couldn’t admit to this, nor could she dare to gamble on it.’

’Just as Ivy Sherwood said, if the Blackwood Family found out, her fate would be sealed. Her good life was still ahead of her; she couldn’t afford any mistakes right now.’

Seeing Anna Nash press her lips together in silence, Ivy Sherwood knew she had achieved her goal.

"One week. You have one week. I want to see my mother’s ashes, or I’m telling the Blackwood Family everything." After saying her piece, Ivy Sherwood stood up, paid the bill at the counter, and left.

She was in an excellent mood. Stepping outside, even the sunlight seemed more brilliant.

’So satisfying!’

Although getting something from Caleb Blackwood wouldn’t be easy, that wasn’t her problem.

The pressure was now on Anna Nash. She clenched her fists. ’That damn Ivy Sherwood.’

’She had been so careful, yet Ivy Sherwood still managed to get a hold of something to use against her. And now, she had to go get those ashes for her!’

’But at least she had the baby in her belly as a bargaining chip. Maybe she could get the ashes from Caleb Blackwood with it.’

’But since the ashes are so important to Ivy Sherwood, maybe I can hold onto them myself. If Ivy ever dares to spill my secret, she will never get her mother’s ashes back!’

After leaving the coffee shop, Anna Nash went straight to the Blackwood Group.

The Blackwood Group was arguably the largest corporation in Lustre, occupying an entire high-rise building.

Just looking at it from the outside, Anna Nash found it incredibly impressive. The thought that she would one day be the mistress of this company made her ecstatic.

This only made her more desperate to marry into the Blackwood Family. ’None of my thoughts, none of my actions are wrong!’

Anna Nash walked in joyfully, but without an employee pass, she couldn’t get far. She was stopped at the reception desk. "Excuse me, miss, who are you here to see?"

It was the same receptionist as before. Seeing Anna Nash, she no longer dared to treat anyone with the same neglect she had shown last time.

’What if another one of the chairman’s daughters-in-law or a company shareholder showed up? She couldn’t afford that kind of trouble.’

"My name is Anna Nash. I’m your general manager’s fiancée, and also your Chairman Blackwood’s daughter-in-law."

The receptionist looked at her in shock. ’This woman has some nerve.’

"Our general manager’s fiancée is named Ivy Sherwood. I’ve met her."

"That changed a long time ago, didn’t you know? I am now your general manager’s one and only fiancée. You’d better let me up right now, or you’ll face the consequences!"

The receptionist looked at the way Anna Nash was acting. ’How could she possibly be the general manager’s fiancée? She must be desperate for a man, completely delusional.’

Still, the receptionist said, "I’m sorry, miss, but how about I make a call and check for you?"

"Hurry up!" Anna Nash urged.

The receptionist called the CEO’s office, and a secretary answered. The receptionist said a woman named Anna Nash was here to see the Chairman. It wasn’t long before she got a response.

"Okay, okay, I understand."

After hanging up, the receptionist swiped a card to open the gate for Anna Nash. "Miss Nash, this way, please."

Anna Nash went upstairs. Though it wasn’t her first time here, she loved this place.

Before, she had always come to see Silas Blackwood, and he would bring her upstairs, but always in secret, as someone who couldn’t be seen.

Now, she was here openly and legitimately. In the future, she might even become the mistress of this place.

The CEO’s office upstairs was even more luxuriously decorated. While Lustre couldn’t compare to Aethelgard, it was still a major city, and land here was worth its weight in gold.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, Caleb Blackwood’s secretary was already waiting.

"Miss Nash, Director Blackwood asked you to go directly to his office."

"Lead the way. Then, go get me a glass of juice. I want it fresh-squeezed, more sour than sweet." Anna Nash began ordering the secretary around as if she were already the lady of the house.
