Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Come Clean, Was Last Night the First Time?

Ivy Sherwood hadn’t even said a word, but Nina Scott had already cooked up a whole scenario in her head. The more she spoke, the more excited and outrageous she became.

If Ivy didn’t interrupt, there was no telling what kind of shocking things Nina would say next.

"No!"

"No what?" Nina Scott asked.

Ivy Sherwood knew Nina Scott was a good friend. She felt genuinely guilty for keeping this from her for so long, so she decided to take this opportunity...

"It’s not about getting revenge on Silas Blackwood," Ivy Sherwood said in a small voice.

She admitted that the first time she approached Quentin Blackwood, she did have an ulterior motive. She just never expected to succeed on her first try.

Every interaction after that, every single time, had nothing to do with Silas Blackwood.

This made Nina Scott even more excited. "So it’s not about revenge on Silas? Does that mean you and Quentin Blackwood are the real deal?"

Ivy Sherwood didn’t deny it, just gave a slight nod from under the covers.

"Holy crap, you’re an icon for all women! You actually managed to bag a guy like that!"

"You’ve finally seen the light! This whole ’harms no one and benefits you’ move is brilliant. You finally listened to what I’ve been telling you!"

"Quick, tell me everything about last night. How did you two end up talking your way into bed? I want details, *all* the details!"

Nina Scott was ecstatic. Even though it seemed her brother was out of the running now, she was happier than anyone to see Ivy Sherwood happy.

She’d always felt that Ivy deserved better. She and Quentin Blackwood were a perfect match—she wasn’t kidding about that at all.

She’d sensed something was up with those two before. It seemed like they were secretly hiding a lot from her. Now it looked like Ivy and Quentin might have gotten together a long, long time ago!

Ivy Sherwood said, "It wasn’t really anything special. Last night was just... what it was."

"Then be honest, was last night the first time?"

Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "No."

Nina Scott: "!!!"

"Well, well, Ivy! You kept me in the dark so well. So when did it all start? I’m going to get mad if you don’t tell me everything," Nina Scott said, pretending to be angry.

Ivy Sherwood knew she was just pretending. Nina was a good person; she wouldn’t get truly angry.

"You have to promise you won’t tell anyone else about me and Quentin Blackwood."

"I promise! I swear! You can trust me. My lips are sealed. It’s like how I’ve never told anyone the secret to why you’re so beautiful—not even my brother."

Of course, Ivy Sherwood knew Nina Scott. She was incredibly loyal. If she promised not to tell, she wouldn’t.

Only then did she lie on her stomach, propping her chin on a pillow, and briefly tell Nina about what was going on between her and Quentin Blackwood.

At first, Nina Scott’s jaw just dropped. By the end, her eyes looked like they were about to pop out of her head.

She had assumed Ivy and Quentin had only recently started seeing each other. Who would have thought it started so early—that they’d gotten together right after Quentin came back to the country!

"Ivy, you kept it hidden so well! And you even hid it from me!"

"Don’t be mad. I didn’t do it on purpose. It involves Quentin Blackwood, so I couldn’t just casually bring it up, you know?"

Nina Scott remembered something. "So, that time I ran into Quentin Blackwood in the restroom... you were in there too, weren’t you?"

Ivy Sherwood hadn’t expected Nina to bring that up. She nodded. It was indeed her.

"Aha, Ivy! I can’t believe you were doing *that kind of thing* in a restroom!"

"Quentin and I didn’t do anything! It’s not what you’re thinking, and it was definitely not like what Thea Sherwood and Charlie Rhodes did. We just exchanged a few words in there, nothing else happened," Ivy Sherwood explained hastily. This was one misunderstanding she couldn’t allow.

"Then why didn’t you tell me at the time?"

"I just wasn’t ready, and I didn’t know how to bring it up. You’re my best friend, I didn’t want to hide it from you. Please don’t be mad." Ivy Sherwood grabbed Nina’s hand.

"I’m not mad! I’m thrilled! Of course I want you to dump that scumbag Silas Blackwood and find a better man. But Ivy... are you sure about Quentin Blackwood?"

Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "No. Quentin and I are strictly physical, no feelings involved. We’re both adults!"

"Is that really true? I’m worried. Quentin Blackwood is so amazing, I’m afraid you’ll fall for him."

Nina Scott could tell from Ivy’s tone that she didn’t see him as just some stranger she was indifferent to.

On the contrary, whenever she mentioned Quentin Blackwood, there was a clear note of happiness in Ivy’s voice.

Besides, a person’s eyes can’t lie. There was a clear light in them. She might not admit it to herself, but that man was gradually starting to occupy a place in her heart.

"I... I probably won’t fall for him, right?" Ivy Sherwood stared ahead, a trace of uncertainty flickering in her eyes.

She knew Quentin Blackwood was amazing, but she also knew he didn’t belong to her. She never yearned for things that weren’t hers to have.

Nina Scott poked her on the head. "Well, you have to hold back. Even if someone’s going to fall, you have to make sure Quentin Blackwood falls first."

"Haven’t you heard the saying? The first one to fall in love loses. If you really fall for Quentin, you know what kind of rivals you’ll be up against, right? They’re the cream of the crop. Just look at Joy Sheridan—she’d chew you up and spit you out."

Ivy Sherwood knew that, of course. She had never even considered trying to win Quentin Blackwood over or being in a real relationship with him.

Nina Scott said, "But Quentin Blackwood isn’t a scumbag, is he? Stringing you along here, then turning around and going to Aethelgard to be with another woman? Didn’t we see him shopping with that Joy Sheridan last time?"

"And then he just buys you a gift on the side to keep you happy, except this gift is a little more expensive? No, wait... the more I talk, the more this sounds like a classic trick scumbags use on young girls. He isn’t just playing around with you because you’re pretty, is he?"

Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "I don’t know, but I don’t think he’s that kind of person."

Most of the time she was with Quentin Blackwood, she hadn’t taken off her makeup. If Quentin was really just judging by looks, he probably wouldn’t have been able to make a move on her, seeing what she usually looks like.

"And you’re already defending him?" Nina Scott began to analyze. "If he’s not that kind of person, then why doesn’t he help you break off the engagement? Is he just going to stand by and watch you marry Silas Blackwood, and then keep seeing you after you’ve become his nephew’s wife?"

Ivy Sherwood stared straight ahead. "Breaking off the engagement is my own business. I have no reason to guilt-trip him into helping me. Besides, I don’t want to get tangled up in too many vested interests with Quentin Blackwood."

After telling Nina Scott, Ivy Sherwood actually felt much more relieved. Her friendship with Nina had always been very pure and simple.

"Let’s not talk about this anymore. Come lie down with me!" With that, Ivy Sherwood hooked an arm around Nina’s neck, pulling her down to lie in bed with her.

In the end, Nina Scott fell asleep, but Ivy Sherwood couldn’t. She got up again, took a couple of finance books from the bookshelf, and started to read.
