Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Blind Date, Mistaking Ivy Sherwood for Nina Scott
Timothy Sherwood just stood there and took it, letting Thea throw her tantrum.
Thea couldn’t stop herself from crying and screaming, "Why are you doing this to me? Why are you doing this to me!"
"Why wasn’t it Ivy? Why!"
Timothy Sherwood walked over, wanting to touch Thea and pull her into his arms, but she dodged away.
"I wanted to send Ivy over, but with that face of hers, they wouldn’t have even given her a second glance."
"Ivy is nowhere near as beautiful as you. My precious daughter, whom I raised so well, is a true one-of-a-kind beauty. That’s what they were looking for."
Timothy Sherwood’s words made Thea feel a little better. It was because she was beautiful that Charlie Rhodes wanted her. He wouldn’t have even spared a glance for an ugly girl like Ivy.
"Thea, your godfather said he gave you a large sum of money. How about you give that money to Dad first? I’ll keep it safe for you, alright?"
When Timothy Sherwood went to ask Charlie Rhodes for money, Charlie told him that he had given it all to Thea, and that if Timothy wanted it, he should go ask his own daughter.
That was why he had to brazenly ask. He had no other choice; the amount of money Thea had was just too large.
"Heh, I knew it. You just came for the money." Thea crossed her legs, her eyes filled with cold contempt.
"He did give me five hundred million, but this is *my* money. This is the money I got for selling my body!" Thea was no fool; she knew she had to look out for herself now.
"Thea, you..." Timothy Sherwood’s expression darkened.
"You want money? Fine. I can give you however much you want. But I want shares in the company. I’m going to be the chairman."
"Impossible!" Timothy Sherwood’s face was livid. ’That idiot Thea,’ he thought, ’how did she suddenly change so much? Did someone put her up to this?’
"If you’re not willing, then there’s nothing more to discuss. Get out!"
"Thea Sherwood, who are you telling to get out?" Timothy Sherwood thundered.
"Timothy Sherwood, what right does a man who sells his own daughter have to stand here and yell at me? Don’t forget, you’re the one begging *me* for money right now!"
"You wretched girl! You ungrateful child!" Timothy Sherwood clutched his heart. "From the time you were little, I gave you everything you ever wanted! Do you have any idea how much money you and your mother have spent?"
"Do you think you would have made it this far without me? How did I raise such an ungrateful brat? You and your mother are exactly the same—heartless and cruel!"
The last time, Ruby Sterling had taken thirty percent of his shares, becoming the company’s largest shareholder. Now Thea wanted his remaining shares too. Absolutely not.
"What right do you have to talk about my mother? Mom has sacrificed so much for this family over the years! Even if she hasn’t gotten credit, she’s certainly put in the effort!"
Although Thea also resented Ruby, she had already heard from her godfather that her mother had been kept in the dark about this.
Timothy Sherwood had nothing left to lose now. Thea had been too sheltered by him, so she was completely clueless!
"Your mother? You think she’s some kind of saint? Do you have any idea how many times she’s ’served’ your godfather over the years? Do you know how many times she’s cheated on me?!"
"It’s because your mother got old and Charlie Rhodes lost interest in her that he set his sights on you."
Thea was dumbfounded. "You’re lying! That’s impossible! You’re slandering my mother!"
"If you don’t believe me, go ask her yourself."
"I don’t believe it! Get out! Get out!"
Thea didn’t understand. How could things be like this? How could her mother...
’No wonder Mom never took me with her when she went to see my godfather,’ she thought. ’I only ever saw him a couple of times when I was little, when he came to our house.’
Her godfather was obviously very wealthy. Every time her mother went to see him, she came back with a lot of money. ’So that’s how it was. That’s really how it was!’
...
Ivy Sherwood had been extremely busy the past two days, with almost no time to rest.
Even though it was the weekend and she should have had a lot of work to do, Ivy pushed it all aside because she had to go with Nina Scott to a blind date.
The night before, Nina sent Ivy a message: "Ivy, don’t forget you’re coming with me tomorrow. I have no idea what kind of weirdo he’ll be, but I’ll just play along and get it over with."
Nina didn’t expect anyone the Scott family introduced to be a catch. She’d heard he was rich and that his whole family had moved abroad. He was thirty-two, a good eight or nine years older than her.
Nina really didn’t want to go, but her mother forced her, insisting the man was very nice. She said that with Nina’s temper, she needed someone who would dote on and adore her, so the age difference shouldn’t be an issue.
’If he were really such a great catch,’ Nina thought, ’the Scott family would have set him up with Yara first. There’s no way it would have been my turn.’
Nina couldn’t be bothered to listen to the rest of the Scott family’s nonsense. She didn’t even have to guess; she knew Yara must have put them up to it.
Ivy replied, "I know, I know. I’ve already cleared my whole schedule for you tomorrow."
The two of them chatted for a little while longer before Ivy finally went to sleep.
It was Nina’s blind date, not hers, so Ivy dressed very casually. She tied up her hair, put on her usual makeup, and even dotted on a couple of fake moles to make her skin look darker and more plain.
The restaurant the Scott family had booked was indeed very nice and upscale.
Nina told the host she had a reservation, and a waiter quickly led them to their table.
Nina had arrived exactly on time, so she was surprised to find the table empty. Her date hadn’t arrived yet.
"Is he late, or just in the restroom?" Nina already disliked people who weren’t punctual. She asked the waiter, who confirmed that no one from their party had arrived yet.
Originally, Ivy was supposed to sit at a nearby table to check out the guy for Nina, not sit at the same table and join the date.
Nina pulled Ivy down into a seat. "Ivy, it’s already past our meeting time, and he’s still late."
"Let’s just wait a bit longer," Ivy said.
They ended up waiting for nearly half an hour. Nina had a short fuse. "I’ve waited for half an hour. That’s more than enough courtesy. I’m going to the restroom. If he’s still not here when I get back, we’re leaving!"
"Okay," Ivy nodded.
’A guy who shows up late with no explanation isn’t worth meeting anyway,’ Ivy thought.
Just as Nina left for the restroom, a short, slightly balding man walked over to the table.
Before Ivy even had a chance to stand up, the man sat down directly across from her.
"You must be Nina Scott?" He sized Ivy up and then said with a sneer, "They said you were some great beauty? You call *this* a great beauty? You look nothing like your photo. This is basically a scam, isn’t it?"
"You have the wrong person." Ivy stood up, ready to step aside.
’Attacking a woman’s appearance the moment he arrives... definitely not a gentleman,’ she thought.
"Hold on," the man called out to her. "You’re being rude. I’ll admit you’re not quite my type, but since I’m already here, I suppose I can deign to speak with you for a few minutes."
Ivy didn’t notice that, not far away, Julian Grant was walking in with a group of people.
When he saw Ivy, Julian Grant stopped in his tracks. "You guys go on ahead. I see someone I know."
’Why is my little ’niece-in-law’ having a secret rendezvous here?’ he wondered. ’And who’s that guy with her?’
As he got closer, he heard the man say, "Since you’re here on a blind date with me, you must have already looked into my background."
Julian’s interest was piqued. ’Oho! The ’niece-in-law’ is on a blind date? Does that mean my brother Quentin is being cheated on?’
Julian quickly whipped out his phone and started recording the scene.
