Chapter 48: Leaving the University (3)

’Three?’

His expression hardened, and he was instantly forced back on the first clash. His weapon trembled from the impact.

Not because he was weaker, but because their superior speed gave them a greater slamming effect.

Without hesitation, Leon assigned 10 free stat points into his agility stats, bringing it up to 100.

Instantly, he felt a particular set of muscles in his body spasm and relax.

The three zombies tactically surrounded him, then attacked at the same time.

Leon twirled on the spot, deflecting the long claws of two of the zombies. The last one reached him and raked its claws across his back, aiming to tear open a gruesome gash.

Scrrrrr-!

However, instead of a tearing sound, only the sound of metal grinding against metal could be heard.

’This Asura Armor is really doing good.’

Leon smiled as he immediately stepped back, ramming his elbow into the zombie’s head.

It stumbled, slightly disoriented since its brain was shaken. Leon took this moment to take it down, but it was still fast enough to escape. Not without losing something, though.

He stared at the decapitated arm on the ground, then looked back at the one-armed bleeding zombie.

There was no rage or pain in its expression, proving that it truly felt nothing even though its arm was cut off.

This reminded Leon of the four-armed zombie he had fought in the male dormitory. That one had been able to feel pain, and was the original owner of the Extraction Ability.

’So many strange things.’

Seeing the buses drawing closer, he knew he needed to end the battle faster.

So, he did. He brought his stamina and agility stats to 110, feeling his body flex under the influx of raw power.

’Go!’

He dashed at the injured zombie, aiming straight for its head. The other two zombies immediately jumped in his path and tried to block him with their blades. However, Leon was a step ahead.

Now matching their speed, he sidestepped their blockage and appeared before the injured zombie.

The greatsword moved swiftly, tearing through wind, then tearing through flesh.

The zombie tried to make a last-minute dodge, but ended up having half of its head cut off.

The grotesque sight of what was left made Leon feel disgusted, but he didn’t care. He had already received his confirmation.

The zombie corpse tumbled to the ground, and at the same time, one of the Killer zombies rammed into him. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Leon avoided its claws from hitting his face as they tumbled to the ground.

’Damnit!’

The zombie snarled and tried to bite at his face, but he shifted his head accurately.

It bit into the solid ground beside him, and Leon could feel its breath touching his skin.

He grabbed its arms, pinning them to the ground with all his strength.

’Shadow Spear!’

The unfortunate zombie had its head pierced, causing its blood to splatter onto the side of Leon’s face.

[You have slain a Level 24 Killer Zombie! +5 Stamina points gained!]

As he pushed its body aside, he saw the last zombie jumping straight at him with its mouth wide open.

Leon’s eyes widened, and he immediately rolled to the side.

Bam!

The zombie crashed heavily to the ground, but immediately rose up and glared at him.

Leon also lifted himself into a crouch, staring at the dangerous creature warily.

There was a reason why he believed it was more dangerous than the others. This zombie’s presence felt thicker, and quite similar to the presence of Tier One creatures.

’It’s probably on Level 25, on the brink of evolving.’

Leon’s eyes darkened, and he felt the urgent determination to kill it.

He glanced at his sword, and realized it had been dropped some distance away.

"Alright."

He stood up, then charged at the zombie, throwing a roundhouse kick straight at its face.

Bam.

The attack landed cleanly, and the zombie was fast in standing up again. Leon immediately dashed for his sword while the zombie chased after him.

The distance was short, and he quickly grabbed the hilt of the weapon.

That was when the zombie’s claws latched onto his ankle. Leon groaned as his leg was almost twisted oddly by the zombie.

He turned around immediately and whacked its head with the greatsword. It staggered for a moment, then tried pulling him upside down.

For a moment, it seemed Leon was really going to lose. Suddenly, a black spear shot from the shade of a shop umbrella and stabbed into the zombie’s head from behind.

Leon’s eyes widened when he realized it had caught his attack, preventing the spear from actually piercing its brain.

’No. You’re going.’

His expression turned vicious, and he grabbed at the zombie’s legs.

Using those as leverage, he pressed his back against it and forced the creature to fall on its back.

The short shadow spear touched the ground first and was pushed forward, escaping the zombie’s grip and piercing its brain.

[You have slain a Level 25 Killer Zombie! +10 Mana points gained!]

[You have Leveled up to Level 24! +18 Stat points gained!]

Leon yanked his legs free from the zombie’s grip, then stumbled to his feet.

’To think it’d die so comically.’

The buses were drawing closer, and he was still surrounded by normal zombies.

Picking up his sword, he lazily slaughtered them while being on the lookout for other strange zombies.

Finally, when the buses reached him, he noticed something. The zombies were actually retreating.

"Their leader must have noticed that they might not win against you all, so it’s pulling back its forces." Thyra explained as she floated beside him, untouched by even a single drop of blood.

Leon, on the other hand...

"You look hideous." Selene said as she walked up to him.

She also noticed the zombies retreating and felt slightly conflicted.

In the end, her mixed feelings gave way to relief.

Leon turned to her and sized her up. "I could say the same for you."

Just like Leon, her clothes were stained with blood. Though, it wasn’t really that much since she was a ranger.

A slight sneer appeared on her lips, but just as she was about to retort, they heard Samson’s loud voice.
