Chapter 149: Odd Human [75 PS Bonus Chapter (1)]

"From this moment, I announce myself as the leader of this camp, and the one with the highest authority over you all."

Leon started, his voice indifferent. His words, however, caused frowns to appear on the faces of the militia present.

"I will not sugarcoat my words, and neither will I give you any false promises. The world is no longer as it used to be, and we cannot stubbornly adhere to the rules of the old society order."

As he continued to speak, their frowns eased, and they started to realize this young man might not be incompetent.

Aware of their shifting opinions, Leon continued, "I’m not saying we should abandon our morality, but a few things have to be reshaped. While it is indeed true that strength is what matters mostly in this kind of world, all others are not to be neglected. As long as you prove useful to the camp, you will be rewarded according to what you can offer."

Some of the evolvers started nodding, agreeing with him.

"Now, concerning the things I definitely despise..." Leon’s tone grew cold as he stepped forward. "Rape, abuse of physical or political power, and betrayal. If you know you cannot rein in your darkest desires, then I will give you an hour to leave this camp. Otherwise..."

He leaned forward, his eyes seemingly fixed on every pair of eyes watching him.

"... I will kill you."

Straightening, he offered a carefree smile and continued. "There will be a shift in the order of things soon, and I hope you can cooperate with me. That will be all."

To his surprise, someone began to clap. Then, as if it was a chain reaction, another person joined, followed by another. In a matter of seconds, the entire militia was clapping intensely, surprising their new leader.

Leon offered a calm smile, then stepped back and returned to the villa.

Marie approached him, her grey eyes filled with curiosity. "Where did you learn all that from? You really looked like a veteran back there."

Selene was also looking at him curiously, as she wondered how someone from a normal family could have such confidence.

Scratching his head, Leon answered, "Well, I have watched quite a lot of movies, and I’ve read a lot of novels too. Conjuring something like that is really easy."

Marie nodded, her eyes brightening in awe. Selene, on the other hand, still looked at him with narrowed eyes. Even if what he said was true, his performance couldn’t have come solely from reading books.

Moreover, there was something she wanted to ask.

"Leon."

She called out to him, prompting him to stop. He turned to look at her with his calm expression, waiting for her to continue. Marie also stopped, alternating her gaze between the two.

"The things you said back there," Selene spoke slowly. "Did you really mean them?"

Somewhat expecting her question, Leon nodded. "I do mean them. While I’m not perfect, I’m human. I can see the flaws in this camp. I’ll be putting my efforts into correcting those flaws."

"I see..." She nodded, her gaze dropping for a moment.

Then, she resumed walking, leaving the two behind.

"That girl is surely weird, isn’t she?" Marie asked, using a gossip tone.

Leon was surprised, but indulged her for a moment. He spoke in a hushed tone, as if he was afraid others would hear him.

"Yeah. I wonder why she’s like that."

"Maybe you should ask?"

"Bah, not interested."

Behind them, Emily and Jones looked at each other. They almost couldn’t believe that this seemingly ordinary young man was the one who had ended the life of Dwayne yesterday, and declared himself the leader today.

While Leon and Marie chatted idly, they all returned to the villa where Selene was waiting for them.

Leon immediately got serious and said, "I already dealt with the militia. Selene, I’ll need your help in dealing with the normal citizens."

Just as it had been said earlier, he wasn’t too good at politics. However, Selene was the opposite. Her political skills matched Gwen’s, and could even surpass her if she was fully invested.

Although Leon didn’t know her background, he knew it had to be a strong one. After all, not anyone could be friends with Gwen and Reymond.

"I understand. I’ll give it my best," She nodded, earning a relieved sigh from him.

Unlike the others, Selene wasn’t his direct subordinate, and they were more like allies. He couldn’t just order her around. Still, he felt glad that she was willing to help.

Turning to one of the maids, he asked her to call the others over. In less than a minute, they had all assembled in the living room, their presences subdued.

Surprisingly, Anna and Carcel were also present. This puzzled Leon, but he decided to address it later.

"You were all maids while Dwayne was here. If you wish to stop being a maid, you are free to go. There will surely be other jobs open for you to do later, so you don’t have to worry about hunger."

Surprise rippled through the maids, as they hadn’t expected this at all.

Leon waited patiently for the first person to raise her hand. After two minutes, he frowned when no one did.

"You guys don’t want to go?" He asked, confused.

The same former actress he had seen yesterday stepped forward, then bowed.

"Leader, I believe everyone here is expressing their stance to remain maids. Please allow us to do our jobs."

It seemed she had made her choice to also join the maids even though she was nothing but a sex toy for the former leader.

’Oh, well. No problem, then.’

Shrugging, he said, "Alright. You guys just have to ensure you do your work properly. Do not worry, no one can force you to do what is wrong. If there’s even a hint of such a thing, let me know immediately."

The woman was incredibly grateful and thanked Leon just like the others. Soon, he dismissed them and turned around to see Selene looking at him strangely.

"Is there something on my face?"

She continued staring at him like she didn’t hear him. Then, after a moment, she mumbled to herself.

"... He’s odd..."
