Chapter 139: A New Teacher
An hour later, Leon and Jones returned to their house and met with Selene who was also just coming back from her scouting trip.
"Where is Emily?"
Jones asked worriedly, fearing that his partner had been frozen to death by this ice-cold beauty.
Selene gave him a dry stare, then said, "She’s inside."
Although Leon was curious why Selene had stayed back, he said nothing. When they entered, he was surprised to see the blonde woman taking care of two young children who looked malnourished.
Two bowls of rice and a little mutated beast meat were being ravenously devoured by the siblings.
Seeing him stare at them in confusion, Selene explained. "They’re alone. So, I brought them."
Although her explanation was short, Leon understood her. The kids no longer had parents, so there was no one to provide for them.
Leon nodded, feeling a pang of sympathy for the two. In his own base, there were kids like this too, but they always received special privilege of eating three times a day.
After all, they were too young to work and couldn’t be sent to fight zombies and mutated beasts.
’Oh, well.’
Shrugging, he leaned against the wall and spoke to the adults. "The condition here is really poor. I was expecting something like this, but it’s almost too depraved."
Selene nodded, a flicker of irritation in her eyes. "Same with what I scouted. At this rate, it is only a matter of time before cannibalism starts."
"Cannibalism?" Emily’s eyes grew wide in surprise.
Even Marie frowned, realizing the situation in the Outer Ring was far uglier than she thought.
"I feel a bit of headache coming. Restructuring this kind of base would take a great deal of effort," She said.
Jones couldn’t help but look at her in surprise, then he asked, "You’re that confident in taking over this base?"
Marie nodded, looking at Leon with a smile. "I have full confidence in him."
Her voice was not low, so Leon naturally heard her. He wondered why she was confident, but soon dismissed the thought.
’Anyway, I’m getting a little hungry.’
Seeing him rub his tummy, the auburn-haired woman immediately understood and said, "I already prepared dinner for everyone. We can eat now."
Leon sighed in relief, then thought, ’This lady is a really good wife material.’
Thankfully, he didn’t say that out loud, as it might have caused some misunderstandings.
The dinner Marie had prepared was quite luxurious, with mutated beast meat, eggs, and mutated fruits as snacks.
When the sky was fully blanketed by the darkness of the night, everyone retreated into their respective rooms. Selene and Marie stayed in one room together, while Jones and Emily stayed together in another.
It was quite obvious that the two were more than just friends. Although they probably only knew each other after the apocalypse, it wasn’t strange if they were already in a relationship.
’Ah, and here is my lonely ass watching some kids sleep in what is supposed to be my couch.’
Leon grumbled to himself, though he wasn’t really displeased. In fact, he had been the one to volunteer that he was going to keep watch during the night.
Now, standing in the living room that was dimly lit by the fireplace, he felt a little lonely.
No, that was wrong. He wasn’t lonely at all. After all, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen was standing right next to him.
"Why did you give that woman such a strange mission?" Thyra asked, her mesmerizing purple eyes fixed on him.
Leon let himself get drawn into her gaze for a few seconds, then answered, "Just like Marie said, it’ll be a real hassle restructuring this place. Besides, I need to know the real situation of the entire base. And I’m sure that lady can surely surprise me with her results."
"Hm, I guess so," She nodded. "I wouldn’t mind you sending me on little errands like that, though."
Leon chuckled, "How dare I send a Tier Seven Shadow Demon on an errand? I’m not courting death, please."
Thyra froze, and a peculiar expression appeared on her face. "... courting death."
"Hm? Is something wrong?" He asked, confused.
"No, it’s nothing," Thyra shook her head with a faint smile, then continued. "As for sending me on an errand, it’s not really a big deal. Although I can’t lend you my strength or physically help you to a great length, I can still help you gather little information that wouldn’t count as going against the rules of the Star Stream. At least, that way, I can be a little more useful."
"More useful?" Leon blinked in surprise, not expecting that from her.
"Mn," She nodded. "You might not realize it, but being unable to do anything is slowly driving me crazy. Besides, you’re going to help me build a new body, which is a great favor, actually. But I don’t think I can provide any major help to you, even after you do that."
Leon shook his head, a faint smile on his face. "You shouldn’t think of it that way. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have your ability, and I might have died in the male dormitory after being overwhelmed by the zombies. So, it’s wrong to think you haven’t helped me."
An inexplicable emotion crossed Thyra’s face, but it disappeared too fast for Leon to notice it.
She suddenly smiled and said, "How about I teach you a few things regarding my ability?"
"The Star Stream won’t punish you for that?" He asked cautiously.
After all, the Star Stream was an existence of unimaginable power. He didn’t know if Thyra would be affected negatively by trying to teach him how to wield her ability.
"I don’t think so. After all, it’s my ability, and I passed it down to you. A little tutoring shouldn’t hurt," She replied confidently.
Leon was still a bit cautious, but then sighed and nodded. "Alright, then. What do you have to teach me?"
Thyra grinned, as if excited by something. Seeing that grin, Leon felt his scalp tingle. What was she planning?
The embodiment of beauty and temptation moved before him, crossing her arms beneath her ample bosom, then said with an alluring smile.
"From now on, you are only allowed to call me Thyra-sensei, okay~?"
