Chapter 121: Hunting Tier One Beasts
Two humans and two beasts dashed through the streets of northern Williamsburg, moving at a pace far beyond what an ordinary human could achieve or even perceive.
At some point, the leading figure stopped and checked a strange circular device he was holding.
"Hm, looks like one is here," He said with a faint smile, looking at the holographic information displayed.
- Quadrupedal Beast
- Fire Affinity (80%)
- Level 30 - Level 36
These three might look like irrelevant information, but it was highly valuable. With this, Leon could always know about his enemy before going to confront them.
’Level 36 at max, eh? Reminds me of that wolf.’
Leon thought as he put the device back into his waist pouch. Glancing at the two tamed beasts, he considered something for a moment, then said to Richard.
"I found a Tier One Evolved beast. Do you think you can handle it?"
Richard immediately straightened, his eyes blazing with a sharp light.
"Tier One? Although I haven’t fought one before, I’m sure we can put up a fight against it."
Seeing their master serious, Little West and Little East stood straight, their ears perked.
"Alright. I’ll leave it to you. Follow me."
Saying this, Leon walked straight to an abandoned warehouse with old tractors and cranes, then kicked the doors open.
Bang!
The gates were sent flying while the building shook from the impact. Stepping inside, Leon scanned the place for a a few seconds, then looked up.
Lying on a tractor was a huge sewer rat, even larger than Richard’s tamed beasts. It had been resting peacefully until Leon sent the doors flying.
Usually, a rat would have fled at any signs of humans approaching. However, that was before the apocalypse. Now a Tier One Evolved beast, the rat was at the top of the food chain.
To it, humans were nothing more than nourishments as it had killed several hundreds of them. Opening its ominous red eyes blazing with anger, it glared at the four presences that had just appeared in the warehouse.
Grrrrr!
A wild growl, unexpected of a rat, escaped its maw as it stared at them. As if recognizing its mortal enemy, it shifted its attention to Little West, then stood up. The tractor groaned under its weight, then bent slightly as it climbed to the ground with heavy steps.
Grrrrr!
Little West growled too, its fur rising as it bared its fangs.
Seeing this reaction among the beasts, Richard couldn’t help but chuckle.
"We’ll handle this, Boss."
Leon nodded, not bothering to interfere. He merely stood at the door, waiting.
Meanwhile, Richard unsheathed his sword and dashed at the rat, accompanied by his tamed beasts on both sides.
The mutated rat growled once, then turned into a blur of brown fur.
Richard’s eyes caught its movement, and he made a quick slashing motion.
The beast was originally going to attack Little West, but under the threat of Richard’s blade, it pivoted and jumped back.
Grrrrr!
While Richard paused, his tamed beasts were already on the move.
Little East dashed at the rat from the left, while Little West confronted it head-on.
The rat’s eyes flashed with a ruthless glint and it chose to attack Little East first. After all, the mutated fox was weaker.
One move would be enough to crush it completely.
Unfazed at seeing the enemy charging at it, the mutated fox even ran faster, colliding with the mutated rat in a matter of seconds.
Bang!
The two crashed into each other, claws tearing into flesh and blood pouring on the ground. The mutated rat tried to kill Little East by biting its neck, but the fox naturally wasn’t going to allow that. Using the advantage of its smaller size, it ducked under the rat’s snout and bit one of its forelegs.
Grrrr!
The mutated rat growled in pain and immediately slashed at the fox’s side with its claws, leaving another set of deep wounds.
Suddenly, a black shadow appeared at its side, and Little West knocked into the rat, its fangs clamped around the skin of its neck.
Primal panic flooded the mutated rat and it immediately tried to retreat.
However, Little East’s grip on its leg was firm, while the black mutated cat was unwilling to let go too. Richard had already gotten close, and seeing the beast trying to escape, he raised his sword and slashed towards the neck.
Realizing it might actually die, the mutated rat decided to stop joking and activated an innate ability that had been born when it evolved.
Fire bloomed across its fur, scorching the two tamed beasts as they hastily released the beast and retreated.
Even Richard was forced to cancel his attack and retreat. Now coated in flames from head to paw, the mutated rat stood straight and glared at its enemies.
"Oops. This is getting harder," Richard joked, but his eyes were cold.
He took two seconds to observe the injuries of his tamed beasts, then refocused his attention on the enemy. His gaze turned colder.
Without saying a word, the three lunged at the mutated rat as if they had thrown caution into the wind.
Richard was the first to reach it, his sword aiming straight for its throat. Threatened, the mutated rat stepped back a few meters, lashing out with its claws to meet the blade.
Meanwhile, Little West and Little East jumped at it from the sides, their claws raking at its defenseless neck. Unsurprisingly, the rat’s hide was thick. Even then, the two tamed beasts dealt enough damage to the rat.
Hissing in pain, it parried Richard’s sword and stepped back. However, Richard only pressed forward, slashing relentlessly like the rat’s neck was his sworn enemy.
Of course, that didn’t make him miraculously kill it. None of his attacks landed, as the beast was doing a good job defending its vital body part.
However, that was it. It was unable to protect itself "...from the wounds inflicted by the two weaker beasts that were just as relentless as their master.
Although the flames on the rat’s fur burned their paws, the beasts didn’t stop. They continued attacking the beast, letting the small amounts of damage accumulate until the rat could no longer ignore them.
Standing by the door, Leon saw that the rat was being cornered and could already tell that the battle was going to end soon.
However... raising his head, his gaze locked onto a large pair of sinister green eyes staring at them from the darkness.
