After taking away the soul crystals and rewards from the zombies and clearing the corpses from their path, the bus continued on its path, heading towards Brooklyn at a faster pace.

Behind them, the rumblings through Manhattan had reduced—proving that the catastrophic battle was coming to an end.

From the bridge, smoke could be seen rising over Manhattan, proving that a massive destruction had taken place.

Sitting inside the bus, Leon cradled a sleeping Nora in his embrace while checking through his stats.

It was the greatest boon he had received from the Star Stream.

’Should I distribute it now or use it later?’

He considered using up all the stat points immediately, but then decided against that. Although it wasn’t much, it could be crucial in an emergency battle in the future.

Shifting his attention from the stat points, he saw his observation and realized there was a little change in it.

He had previously improved from a gremlin to a human, and now he had improved from a mere human to a promising human.

Did that mean he was being recognized as a talented human by the Star Stream?

It felt strangely comforting... that something or someone was recognizing his efforts.

Next, Leon switched to the tab that displayed his evolution requirements.

To his surprise, another requirement had been completed halfway. He only needed to gather five more crystals to complete the first requirement. And with his current strength, he believed it wouldn’t be that hard any longer.

Suddenly, his gaze shifted to Selene who sat opposite him, and he asked quietly, "You have reached the threshold?"

The girl’s eyes fluttered open, and her gaze reflected a hidden sharpness.

"Yes, I have. And I’ve seen what you must have wanted to tell me about."

She paused briefly, then continued.

"As expected, the Star Stream isn’t a simple ’level up’ kind of system. Evolution Requirements are unique, and I believe what we got isn’t the same. Right?"

Leon nodded, cradling Nora’s head against his biceps. He hummed to Selene’s words and said, "You’re right. The requirements are different. Simply do your best to complete them so you can evolve quickly. The world is advancing fast."

The silver-haired lady nodded and looked outside the window. Beyond them, the blue river stretched into the horizon, its surface glittering. She nodded, understanding the hidden meaning in his words.

She had seen the destruction caused by the River Dragon, and she knew she couldn’t contend against such power. At least, not with her current self. Thinking about this, she closed her eyes once again while keeping her senses alert.

If even a single person moved, she would notice and react immediately.

Leon noticed her tensed body but didn’t say a thing. Even after spending almost a month with each other, not everyone fully trusted the other. Even he didn’t fully trust his subordinates.

The only thing holding everyone together was the fact that they were all human and their goals didn’t conflict.

’Ah... the world seems really colorless.’

Just as he had this thought, everyone heard Richard’s voice from the front.

"Guys, we’re entering Brooklyn!"

He sounded excited and relieved, as it meant they had finally escaped from the maws of the collapsing Manhattan.

Just as smiles appeared on everyone’s faces, the guy’s voice came again. This time, he sounded annoyed.

"Uh... we’re running low on fuel, and we have some Brooklyn citizens coming to welcome us."

At the back, Leon rolled his eyes and stood up. The bus was tall enough to accommodate his height, so he had no problem standing.

Still cradling Nora in his arms, he walked to the front and looked outside through the front window.

"Oh, zombies."

His expression was calm, and then he shifted Nora’s weight to his left hand, letting her rest her head on his shoulder.

"Keep driving. I’ll handle the zombies," He said to Richard.

Seeing him nod, Leon immediately got to work. His fingers twitched, and a ripple of mana was sent out to the shoreline before them.

The zombies that were rushing towards the bus halted for a brief moment, then resumed running. However, just a few seconds later, their own shadows twisted and shot up in the shape of a thin, solidified spike.

Puchi!

Silently, several zombies died from having the back of their heads pierced, and they all collapsed to the ground.

Leon ignored the messages flowing before his eyes and focused entirely on clearing the path before them.

Unlike Manhattan where zombies were scarce in the beginning, it was different here in Brooklyn. There were more zombies on the streets, their eyes filled with mindless hunger.

The bus rode into the streets for a few more minutes before Richard finally decided to stop the vehicle completely.

The bus was parked in the compound of a three-story building which was still in a relatively good condition. The two zombies wore security uniforms, proof that they had once worked as security guards.

Leon had already eliminated all the zombies that were trailing them, ensuring they were safe for the time being. Although it had consumed a bit of his mana, it was almost negligible as he would recover in just a few hours.

The bus door slid open, and everyone stepped out one by one, looking at the building that was about to become their new home.
