Chapter 244: Chapter 194: The Advancing White Whale Avatar
On an operating table in the Mage Tower’s laboratory, Isaac lay flat on his back. Beside the table were all the Magic Potions needed for the Demon Eye transplant, along with a stone-like eyeball.
After preparing for so long, it was finally time to transplant the Demon Eye.
Above the operating table, Demon Claw Harmon flexed its five long, menacing claws. It was the one performing Isaac’s surgery; for a task like this, Harmon was the only one Isaac could trust.
After all, it was his own Magic Pet.
When it came to something like cutting open his own forehead, he wouldn’t trust other Wizards, not even his own older sister, Cheryl!
This was why he had spent so much time practicing. Harmon and Isaac were one and the same; what Isaac knew, Harmon knew. In fact, Harmon had performed most of the other transplant surgeries on his body.
Soon, the pre-operative preparations were complete. Harmon first sprinkled motes of magical light—an anesthetic Magic that caused Isaac to slowly drift to sleep.
Then, a sharp claw made a light incision at the center of Isaac’s forehead. Layers of skin and flesh parted, revealing the skull beneath. Another light scrape against the bone, and a shallow pit appeared.
This was what made Harmon so convenient as a surgeon. Its sharp claws completely replaced the need for scalpels, being far more flexible. Moreover, it could perform many feats that Isaac himself could not.
Take scraping the skull, for example. Even Isaac, in his current state, couldn’t guarantee a one-hundred-percent success rate. But with Harmon, there was absolutely no room for error.
After carving out a small piece of the skullcap, Harmon delicately lifted a fine, web-like tissue from a vial of Magic Potion. It gently spread the tissue over Isaac’s forehead. Then, its palm split open, and a long tongue extended, licking its palm in a circle. A guttural Magic Spell then floated out from it.
A subtle ripple of Magic Power washed over Isaac’s forehead, and the fine, web-like tissue fused with his skin.
This was an artificial nerve—a Magic Circuit. Without it, the implanted Demon Eye would be nothing more than a decoration.
Many other similar components followed, each one integrated into Isaac’s forehead with Harmon’s precise movements.
Soon, the surgery reached its final stage—transplanting the Demon Eye!
Upon reaching this stage, even with all the experience Isaac had made Harmon accumulate beforehand, it still acted with extreme caution, lifting the Demon Eye from the Magic Potion and gingerly placing it into the wound at the center of Isaac’s forehead.
The Demon Eye was not fully seated; more than half of the eyeball remained exposed. This was normal. As it was a third eye, a structure humans do not naturally possess, the transformation could not possibly be completed in a single operation.
Therefore, after the transplant, he would need to continue taking Magic Potions. Besides dealing with the problem of rejection, these potions would also promote the fusion of the Demon Eye with his body, allowing it to truly become a part of him.
After placing the Demon Eye in the incision, Harmon lifted its claw and shook it lightly, as if taking a deep breath. It quickly steadied itself, its claw tip tracing patterns in the air. Wisps of magical light emerged, settling upon Isaac’s forehead and the Demon Eye.
The previously transplanted tissues, like the artificial nerves, began to glow with Magic Power, which slowly flowed toward the Demon Eye at the center...
Soon...
Artificial nerves, connection successful...
Life Assimilation Position, established...
Soul Resonance Magic Pattern, beginning to synchronize...
...
Thanks to Harmon’s flawless work, every step proceeded in an orderly fashion. Soon, the surgery was successfully completed. Isaac’s eyelids twitched, and he slowly opened his eyes.
He raised a hand to touch the bulge at the center of his forehead, feeling a sense of anticipation for its abilities.
He stretched his stiff limbs and gently mobilized the Magic Power at the center of his forehead. He relaxed after confirming that some sort of power was indeed Nurturing within.
However...
Isaac frowned. ’Is it my imagination?’
’Why does the Magic Power that’s Nurturing feel... a bit evil?’
But even though he sensed an evil tinge to the Magic Power, Isaac didn’t try to change it. After all, he had chosen the Kaleidoscope Eye precisely for the thrill of opening a blind box. He certainly wasn’t going to interfere with the coalescing of this power now.
After downing the Magic Potion from the operating table, he recalled the Demon Claw, walked over to his desk, and sat down to review his pending tasks.
The moment he opened his memo, Isaac’s brow furrowed. He hadn’t realized it, but now that he looked, he saw there was a mountain of things to deal with!
He set aside the matter of the territory’s development. It wasn’t large, so it wouldn’t make much money, but it wouldn’t lose much either. It was good to give Lorna something to do. Her lack of confidence wasn’t just due to an incomplete understanding of her own power; it was also deeply connected to her past experiences.
After all, though she was a Witch, she had perhaps been too well-protected by the Dragon Mother who raised her. She lacked the abnormal Mental State typical of Witches, and had even become somewhat reclusive. Consequently, despite being a Caster, she had been stuck doing jobs that even the lowest-level Adventurers would look down on...
Therefore, building her confidence required more than just combat experience. This was why Isaac had allowed Smith to begin genuinely managing the territory with Lorna.
In the end, however, these were all minor issues to Isaac. The truly important matter was...
Isaac instinctively reached up to rub the center of his forehead, but he stopped his hand halfway and pulled it back. His brow furrowed even more tightly as a result.
