Chapter 196: Chapter 155: Never Forget the Original Intention

The next day, morning sunlight streamed into the room and fell upon Isaac, who had been hunched over his desk all night, revising the plan. He slowly set down his pen, a satisfied smile appearing on his face as he gazed at the partially modified Magic Book.

Just as he had suspected, although this ritual was the work of the renowned Great Arcanist Mensa, it was far from perfect in Isaac’s eyes.

Aside from a mismatch in specialization, two other factors left the ritual with significant room for improvement. First, it had to account for the skill level of the previous officiant, Philo, so many parts lacked refinement. Second, the trading partner was different.

Great Arcanist Mensa had chosen the God of Nobility and Etiquette as his trading partner.

That’s right, the God of Nobility and Etiquette. Although his name sounded quite righteous, he was, in fact, an out-and-out Evil God!

He had once been a True God, and his divine portfolio consisted of [Nobility] and [Ritual].

Yes, just like that.

With the rise of the Legendary Mages, the [Ritual] Authority he wielded was targeted. However, a god-slaying war never broke out. The matter concluded peacefully with the God of Nobility and Etiquette completely relinquishing the [Ritual] Authority.

However, his string of misfortunes had only just begun...

After relinquishing [Ritual], his [Nobility] was targeted as well...

And this time, the ones who targeted him were the very nobles under his protection...

Yes, after the Legendary Mages rose, the Knights rose as well. Since Knights primarily came from the nobility, this conflict was even greater than the one with the Wizards!

This was because the [Nobility] Authority held a truly powerful binding force over the nobles!

It could even directly erase any noble below Tier Three!

So, compared to the Wizards, who had gone directly to his Divine Kingdom to negotiate civilly, the Knights’ methods were far more radical. They directly destroyed all Faith in him, then violently dismantled his Divine Kingdom, seizing the complete [Nobility] Authority from him.

Even at this point, he was still technically a True God. Though his main Authorities were gone, he still had various minor ones. Most importantly, the Divine Power he had accumulated over many years was still intact!

This was because the gods of Faith in this world were different from those in the novels from Isaac’s past life. To them, Faith was merely a cultivation buff and a mana-regeneration buff. As long as their Divine Power remained, there was always a chance for a comeback!

That was the theory, at least.

In reality, however, that was not the case. After seizing his Authority, both Wizards and Knights had been secretly monitoring him, ensuring he would have no chance of a comeback.

As for why they didn’t just finish him off...

The book didn’t say, but Isaac figured ’it was likely due to the other True Gods, making it inconvenient to act.’ After all, even in the current era of Knights and Wizards, the power of the True Gods was not to be underestimated.

But that wasn’t important. What mattered was that the fellow, seeing no chance of a comeback on the path of a True God, resolutely threw himself into the way of evil, becoming an Immortal and Undying Evil God!

He even managed to restore a portion of his [Nobility] Authority, allowing him to decide, to a certain extent, the life or death of any human who possessed the ’nobility’ Concept!

But in doing so, he thoroughly enraged the Knights. From the moment he degenerated into an Evil God, he has been trapped in an endless cycle: resurrect, get hacked to death, resurrect, get hacked to death...

...in an endless loop.

And throughout this process, his power grew progressively weaker. Each resurrection cost him a portion of his Divine Power. According to a report Isaac had read in a research paper, after another seven or eight deaths, he would fall from the Tier of a God, turning from an Evil God into an Evil Spirit.

Of course, even then, he still wouldn’t die. Furthermore, the remaining sliver of his [Nobility] Authority could not be taken from him; it would remain forever in his control!

And this was his last, meager act of defiance against those who had stolen his [Authority]!

’What’s that? You’re asking why he doesn’t get revenge on the Wizards, too?’

’Give me a break. The Knights are just brutes who only know how to fight; they aren’t capable of subtle tricks. Wizards are a different story.’

’Immortal and Undying?’

’A nice little trait. It’s mine now.’

’Who are you going to complain to?’

But I digress. The God of Nobility and Etiquette was indeed much weaker, but for the Terra Empire, he was the ideal trading partner. With his Authority, they could flawlessly erase the Itra Royal Family!

’Perhaps that’s one of the core reasons he’s been allowed to continue existing?’

Isaac didn’t know for sure, nor was he particularly interested. He had no use for this God of Nobility and Etiquette. ’He’s just a worthless pauper,’ Isaac thought. ’Why would I waste such a massive ritual on that trash?’

So, in addition to optimizing the ritual’s structure, he had also made a few changes to the trading partner.

Isaac could actually understand why they had chosen the God of Nobility and Etiquette. First, he was a specialist with a wealth of experience in this area. Second, there was a very limited selection of other viable targets.

According to the research of Great Arcanist Mensa and his colleagues, these humanoid life-forms created with Secret Treasures had one massive flaw—they had no souls!

Normally, this wouldn’t be considered a drawback. After all, no one expected them to achieve great things. Their cost-effectiveness was their greatest advantage!

However, these were obviously not normal circumstances. Having no soul meant many Outer Gods wouldn’t accept them as sacrifices. Indiscriminate Outer Gods like the Master of Billions of Flesh were very rare indeed.

After weighing all the pros and cons, they had settled on the God of Nobility and Etiquette.

But now that Isaac was conducting the ritual himself, an opportunity this good obviously had to go to his good old friend, the Master of Billions of Flesh!

This was a matter of not forgetting one’s original intentions!

Closing the Magic Book, Isaac stood up, stretched, and walked out of the room.

Although there were still many unanswered questions, he had to stop for now. He had to go to the Itra Royal Palace to check in and secure his spot.

After a simple breakfast downstairs, Isaac took Smith and Lorna and drove the pumpkin carriage toward the gates of the Itra Royal Palace.

After meeting up with Philo and Angel at the gate, the group walked directly into the Royal Palace.

This was, in fact, one of the main reasons Isaac had so readily agreed to cooperate with Philo in the first place!

To get by in this world, status wasn’t something you could just grant yourself. The nobility had rather meticulous methods of verification for such things.

And in the Itra Kingdom, his status as a mere Baron was somewhat unimpressive.

But Philo was different. At the end of the day, she was the Eldest Princess of the Terra Empire. The girl’s status was as high as it gets!

"Hm?" In her carriage, Philo, who had been gazing at her palace, frowned slightly and glanced at Isaac. Her intuition told her that he was thinking about something rude!

"What is it?" Isaac asked curiously, turning his head as he noticed the noble lady’s gaze on him.

"It’s nothing." Philo frowned slightly, turning her head back to gaze at her Royal Palace.
