Chapter 440: Chapter 90: Foundation Establishment

As his words faded, the Dark Gold Flying Sword suddenly accelerated!

It transformed into a zigzagging, flashing bolt of dark gold lightning, weaving rapidly through the dense forest of earth spikes.

POP! POP! POP!

A series of soft pops followed in its wake.

The stalagmites shattered under the Flying Sword’s assault.

Muriyas frowned, a tide of irritation rising within him. He began to chant a short, arcane Spell.

The ground’s tremors intensified. Innumerable motes of earthen light rose from the fractured ground, rapidly converging and compressing in front of him. They formed three fist-sized Earth Source Cores that pulsed with a heart-stopping energy!

The Source Cores rotated slowly, locking onto the Flying Sword, then shot toward Murphy at high speed!

However, the Flying Sword was faster!

It became a straight Golden Thread, piercing directly toward the three Source Cores!

In the split second before they collided, the Flying Sword displayed astounding agility. Its tip quivered with incredible subtlety; instead of a direct clash, it grazed the edges of the Source Cores, kicking up a shower of sparks from the roiling Energy. Simultaneously, the blade trembled, and a strand of condensed Dark Gold Sword Qi, clinging like an incurable disease, wormed its way into a fissure in the Source Cores’ Energy flow!

HUMMMMM!

The three Earth Source Cores began to vibrate violently. Their stable internal structures, disrupted by that cunning strand of Sword Qi, caused their light to flicker erratically. They looked as if they were about to lose control and detonate!

Both shocked and enraged, Muriyas was forced to divert his focus, desperately trying to suppress and redirect the rampaging Energy within the Source Cores. His attack was thwarted once more.

Murphy’s voice rang out again, as calm as ever:

"That is why a flame must grow. When it becomes strong enough, it can become a Sun hanging in the heavens, illuminating all creation, fearless of wind or rain."

"Nonsense!" Muriyas snarled. Seizing the momentary lapse as he suppressed the Source Cores, he stomped his right foot fiercely on the ground.

An earthen shockwave, as thick as a bowl and solid as a steel whip, shot out, hugging the ground. It snaked forward like an earth dragon, aimed directly at Murphy’s wheelchair!

The Dark Gold Flying Sword seemed to sense the attack. With an agile twist in the air, it abandoned its disruption of the Source Cores. Though it moved second, it arrived first, its tip pointing straight down.

TING!

With a light ring, the Flying Sword accurately struck the very tip of the ground-hugging shockwave, the point of its most concentrated power.

A flash of Dark Gold electricity erupted. With a clever vibratory force, it bisected the solid shockwave, diverting its energy to harmlessly dissipate on either side.

BOOM! BOOM!

The deflected shockwave blasted two shallow craters into the ground on either side of Murphy’s wheelchair, sending stone fragments flying. But both the chair and its occupant remained completely unscathed.

Murphy’s gaze landed on Muriyas, whose expression was growing fouler by the second. He spoke his third line:

"Then I realized something. The time it takes for a tiny flame to grow into a Sun that illuminates the world is too long, the path too arduous. And the Sun that has hung in the sky since antiquity... it is too high, too far away. What it radiates is a distant, almost freezing warmth, unable to touch the joys and sorrows of the mortal world."

"Enough!" Muriyas finally erupted. He furiously flung the three barely-stabilized Earth Source Cores aside. They detonated with a roar, blasting a huge crater into the edge of the altar and filling the air with dust and smoke.

His earthen face contorted with fury. He glared at Murphy, who was just a short distance away, his voice filled with the manic rage of humiliation:

"Sun? Flame? What utter bullshit! I am the Shadow of the Earth! I am the being who will cover all and devour the light! Warmth and cold, high and low, far and near—beneath my shadow, all will be reduced to eternal silence and darkness! I will blot out the sky! I will obscure the Sun! I will let no light or heat pass through!"

As he roared, an earthen light erupted from his body, surging skyward like a volcano!

He held back no longer, deciding to pour out all the Origin this body could command and unleash his ultimate killing blow!

He thrust his arms skyward, as if hoisting the very earth itself!

The entire altar—no, the ground of the entire plaza—began to emit a low groan. Visible earthen ripples spread frantically outward from him.

Countless boulders, mounds of earth, and even the essence of metallic veins deep underground were forcibly ripped from their places and gathered by this terrifying force!

Above his head, a colossal mountain-claw over ten meters in diameter, formed from innumerable compressed stones, earth, and metals, rapidly took shape!

"JUST! DIE!" Muriyas’s eyes were bloodshot. He slammed his raised arms downward, aiming directly at Murphy!

The mountain-claw descended with a thunderous roar!

It carried a boundless power, an intent to crush all creation and reduce it to dust, as it locked onto the area below.

This was not an attack!

This was the sky itself falling!

This was the earth overturning!

It was an act of ultimate annihilation, intended to bury everything within its range—be it person or thing, Flying Sword or wheelchair—and grind it all to powder!

"My Lord!" Elizabeth’s face was deathly pale. She tried to rush forward but was pinned in place by the overwhelming pressure.

Farther away, Adrian, Ambrosius, and the others watched with horror-struck faces.

Even Ete I and the Great Shepherd Leader, who were concentrating all their power on maintaining the Wall of Faith, could not help but glance over.

Faced with the sky-blotting mountain-claw—a force that seemed capable of crushing the earth and grinding souls to powder—the Dark Gold Flying Sword, which until now had nimbly darted about to parry every blow, did not meet the attack head-on for the first time.

It let out a clear, ringing hum, then abruptly reversed direction. Transforming into a Dark Gold Streaming Light, it shot toward its master—Murphy, in his wheelchair!

The sword’s light flashed like lightning, aimed straight for Murphy’s heart!

"Trying to kill yourself?!" Muriyas was stunned for a second, then a twisted, cruel ecstasy spread across his face. "Too late! This space is already temporarily blanketed by the silent Law of the Earth! Whether you kill yourself or I crush you with my own hands, your soul will be trapped in this domain! It won’t be able to return to the Nether River, nor will it be able to dissipate! I’m going to have a wonderful time with your soul, letting you experience a torment a thousand times more painful than the destruction of your body. I’ll keep it up until you break completely and merge into my Shadow of the Earth, becoming a part of my power! Hahahaha!"
