Chapter 429: Chapter 89: Wind, Thunder, Water
A stray bolt of thunder lashed out at a three-story stone building in the distance, one that had been lucky enough to escape the green wind. Before it could even make a sound, the entire structure was silently reduced to wisps of smoke in a blinding blue light!
More tyrannical and direct than the Withering Wind before it.
This was pure, absolute destruction!
"Raphael! That madman broke free too!" Adrian cried out, all the color draining from his face.
Pope Ete I’s brow furrowed slightly.
On the Northern Great Shepherd Leader’s ice-like face, the blizzard spinning in his left eye suddenly accelerated.
"Together!" Ete I let out a low shout, striking the ground with his Scepter.
The Great Shepherd Leader spread the fingers of his right hand and thrust them down toward the rift spewing thunder!
In that moment, the supreme leaders of the northern and southern Churches displayed astonishing coordination.
The Crescent Star Crown on Ete I’s head suddenly erupted with an unprecedented, pure radiance. It merged with his own vast Holy Power, forming a milky-white pillar of light as solid as glass that smashed directly into the core of the rift!
The tranquil, polar-night sky in the Great Shepherd Leader’s right eye seemed to come alive. Countless points of starlight flowed out, condensing before his palm into a slowly rotating, deep-blue star chart covered in ancient frost runes.
As the star chart rotated, it emitted a chill of absolute zero, coordinating with Ete I’s pillar of light to freeze the rampaging thunder from the other side!
On the altar, all the Cardinals and the three Metropolitan Bishops, caring for nothing else, poured their remaining Holy Power into the two leaders’ attacks without reservation.
RUMBLE!
The milky-white pillar of Holy Light and the deep-blue, freezing star chart collided violently with the torrent of annihilating thunder!
The Holy City trembled, and the earth groaned.
The stalemate lasted for only a few moments.
With the combined might of the northern and southern Church leaders, supported by numerous Cardinal Level powerhouses, the seemingly invincible, annihilating thunder was finally suppressed and forced back, bit by bit.
The rift began to close, the thunder dimming...
RUUUUMBLE!
Water. An endless torrent of azure water, like a bursting ocean, surged from the rift with overwhelming force!
It was clear, cold, and seemingly ordinary water.
The problem, however, was its sheer volume!
It was so vast it defied imagination, as if an entire ocean had been compressed and was now pouring out from that tiny rift!
The azure torrent instantly and brutally forced open the passage that had been on the verge of closing!
The moment the torrent hit the buildings, the stonework was battered by the endless current, its structure disintegrating into fine gravel that dissolved into the flood.
Earth and stone were swept along, forming an even more turbid and violent mudslide.
The Priests and Defender Knights who had been trying to approach again now that the thunder had ceased were devoured by the overwhelming azure flood before they could even react, barely a few bubbles marking their demise.
"Heh heh heh... Water, the source of life, is also the tomb of all things." A gentle, calm, and even somewhat melancholic female voice rang out clearly above the roaring deluge. "Sigrid of the Endless Spring sends her regards. How could such a grand celebration go on without a ’baptism’ of water? Look. Will this clear azure be enough to cleanse the dust from your hearts and wash away the filth this Holy City has accumulated?"
At the same time, the green vortex of wind and the blue thunder, which had been suppressed and nearly dissipated, struggled out once more from the weakened edges of the rift!
"Sigrid! You slowpoke, you’re finally here!" Calvin’s shrill voice, filled with excitement, cut through the howl of the wind. "Perfect timing! Let my wind clear the way for your ’baptism’! Wither! Decay! And then let the pure water wash away the remains!"
"Hmph! Boring water and damp wind!" Raphael’s thunderous roar was still ferocious, even over the sound of the flood. "Destruction! Only Thunder is the most direct form of judgment! Watch me cleave this troublesome curtain of water and bring about an even more thorough annihilation!"
Wind, Thunder, and water—three types of Extraordinary Power, each with a different form and nature yet all capable of immense destruction, poured madly from the highly unstable Plane Rift that the flood had forced open.
The green Withering Wind whined and spiraled, eroding life and matter.
Bolts of blue, annihilating thunder danced and exploded, bringing pure destruction and ruin.
The azure, endless flood surged and roared, delivering a crushing blow with its absolute volume.
The three elements were not in harmony.
The wind parted the water’s surface, the thunder vaporized its mist, and the flood scattered the wind and thunder. Yet, the total destruction they wrought still amounted to a hopeless catastrophe.
A fatal breach had finally appeared in the Holy City’s defenses.
Although Pope Ete I and the Northern Great Shepherd Leader reacted quickly, joining forces again to seal the Plane Rift almost the instant the flood poured out and mobilizing all their power to stop the spread of this triple disaster, this time they faced the might of three powerful Wizards.
The Pope’s milky-white pillar of Holy Light attempted to purify the deluge, but it was steadily weakened by the relentless floodwaters.
The Great Shepherd Leader’s frost star chart could freeze an entire area, but against the torrent surging from all directions, the rate of freezing was far too slow to keep up with the endless flow of water.
Not to mention, they had to divide their attention to deal with the elusive Withering Wind and the rampaging, annihilating thunder.
"Hold the line! We cannot let them break into the core district!" Adrian commanded hoarsely, his face drained of color. The eye behind his monocle was bloodshot as he personally wielded his Scepter, constructing a wall of light to erect a barrier against the flood. But under the torrent’s relentless assault, the wall trembled violently as fractures spiderwebbed across its surface.
