Chapter 292: Chapter 139: Unsealed
"An adventure?"
Clelia blinked. ’So that’s how they met...’
But why did Menor never tell her any of this?
"Yes," Old Jack said, a nostalgic look on his face as he sighed. "We didn’t exactly get off on the right foot back then. At the time, Menor..."
"Found it!"
Just then, Ales cut him off. Several bolts of black lightning erupted from his body once more, shooting toward a protrusion above the folding screen.
There was no expected roar of a shattering wall. The moment the malicious energy touched the wall, it vanished without a sound, as if it had been devoured.
"Old Jack!"
Before Ales could say more, Old Jack had already picked up the statue and thrown it toward the spot.
As Clelia watched, the statue, which carried a spiritual essence of the Origin, slowly merged into the wall.
HISS!
After a sound like leaking air, the wall began to twist and ripple, sending out circle after circle of concentric waves.
Then, a pitch-black object slowly emerged from within. It was a casket, entirely black, with the image of a bizarre creature carved into its lid.
The creature seemed to be formed from countless swirling nebulae, its spiraling arms connecting to form a vaguely humanoid figure. Where its eyes should have been, there was only a patch of inky blackness, as if it could suck in a person’s gaze.
’Revival...’ Ales’s mind reeled with emotion as he carefully examined the Casket of Revival.
He didn’t dare say the Forbidden Item’s full name, however, for fear of causing the powerful artifact to spiral out of control.
"According to what was written, using it requires a sacrifice of Origin Power." Old Jack seemed to recall something and hesitated. "If the power isn’t enough, I’m afraid you’ll..."
"That won’t happen. I’ve already prepared for everything."
Ales waved his hand dismissively. He turned to glance at Clelia, a smile spreading across his pale, aged face. "Let’s begin, Old Jack."
Clelia’s skin crawled under his black-eyed gaze. She couldn’t help but ask, "Are you planning to use that Forbidden Item’s power to resurrect someone?"
When she was with the Eternal Life Association, she had read some records about Forbidden Items.
One passage described Forbidden Item 0-34, the Casket of Revival: It came from the endless firmament, fell into the Forbidden Sea, and was brought forth by a Deep Sea Monster. It possesses the terrifying ability to revive the dead. A creature revived by it will be granted a new life, its lifespan infinitely extended until the turning of an era.
But as for what would happen to the revived being after the era turned, there were no records.
"Heh heh."
The corners of Ales’s mouth stretched wide, making his smile seem even more sinister. "It is your honor to witness this."
’Bah!’
Clelia cursed inwardly. She had no desire to witness any of this. ’Some "honor." What a load of crap.’
Ales turned his head to look at Old Jack, whose expression was conflicted. "Begin!"
Old Jack sighed. The hand holding Clelia’s arm slowly moved toward the Casket of Revival.
"Wait, I..." Clelia’s expression changed. Her Origin Power was screaming at her, warning her to get away from the Forbidden Item.
"Forbidden Item 0-34, the Casket of Revival!"
"Forbidden Item—"
THWACK!
"Urk," Clelia’s shout caught in her throat. She looked down at the black arm that had pierced through her chest. "You—"
"What are you waiting for?!" The malice radiating from Ales intensified as dozens of black lightning bolts lashed out around him. He was furious.
Hearing his words, Old Jack quickly moved Clelia over the Casket of Revival. "My apologies, Lady Clelia. If you were to survive this, I would apologize to you..."
"I..."
Before she could say anything else, an excruciating pain shot through her body. "Aaaah—"
SQUELCH!
With a sickening thud, Clelia’s entire body was crushed flat by the giant hand. Blood dripped from her unscathed feet onto the pattern on the casket’s lid.
"Menor said that when the Eternal Life Association sealed it back then, they used a special method. Only the blood of someone bearing the mark of their association can break the seal."
Ales watched the scene with a cold gaze. "I had originally planned to wait for the right opportunity for them to come back and undo the seal themselves. I never expected the Dawn Church to station so many Holy Professionals in this Cathedral."
"If it weren’t for Tina, I might never have had the chance to obtain it..."
As the blood dripped onto the Casket of Revival, the black coating on its surface slowly melted away, revealing a silvery-white color underneath. The lid transformed into the color of an azure, starry sky, and the carved pattern became vibrant and profound.
"The seal is broken!"
