Chapter 252: Chapter 128: Black Jack, Old Jack?
After breakfast, Wei’en had Shawa and Zero keep Tina company in the living room while he returned to his workshop.
"Keep company" was a generous term; the three of them together couldn’t sustain a single complete conversation.
Only Zero would look at Tina, then at Shawa, and occasionally ask, "Why do we eat breakfast? Is it good?"
"I don’t know. I’ve never eaten."
"Tina, eat, don’t know."
’Don’t know? Tina?’
Zero noticed Tina’s abnormality and, like a curious baby, mimicked her way of speaking: "Zero, um, Zero asks, can eat?"
Shawa glared at him. "Don’t talk like that!"
Tina also looked at him. "Tina, don’t know."
"So, what should I call you?" Zero asked Tina. "Mother? Is that..."
BAM!
Miss Zombie slammed a fist on his head, grinding her teeth. "No, it’s not!" she squeezed out.
"Oh." Zero scratched his head. He knew this was Shawa expressing her displeasure.
"Tina, Mother." The white-haired girl’s vacant eyes reflected Zero’s heavy, metallic body, as if trying to commit his form to memory.
Shawa turned to look at her, a black glint flashing faintly in her pale white eyes.
As if sensing something, Tina also turned to look at her, staring back with wide, vacant eyes, looking completely innocent.
Zero looked from one to the other and suddenly decided it was best for him to just sit quietly...
And so, a long silence fell over the living room. The three of them—a human, a machine, and a zombie, all arguably living beings—sat facing each other without so much as blinking.
"..."
Busy in his workshop upstairs, Wei’en took a moment to ’look’ with his Spirit perception and couldn’t help but grin.
’Are you sure this isn’t a still frame?’
’Ah, how harmonious!’
Wei’en shook his head, no longer paying attention to the three weirdos downstairs. He looked at the newly crafted revolver cylinder in his hand and nodded with satisfaction.
The cylinder is the most prominent part of a revolver—one could even say it’s the revolver’s soul—so he had been particularly meticulous in its design.
The cylinder was silver-white, its diameter slightly wider than the gun’s frame. It could hold eight bullets, more than enough for his usual combat needs.
At the same time, to preserve the firearm’s ability to trigger the effects of Magic Potions No. 1 through 7, Wei’en didn’t touch the internal Rune Array, modifying only certain parts.
Besides the cylinder, the modifications included the barrel and a semi-automatic trigger mechanism.
The difficulty of modifying the gun was much less than creating a new one from scratch. It only took him two hours to complete all the modifications according to the blueprints.
The gun’s frame was the same sky blue as before, but its length had increased by five centimeters, and its width by two centimeters due to the new cylinder.
Wei’en had also meticulously re-engraved the gunfire insignia of the Secret Investigation Department, making the revolver look even more exquisite and ornate.
By his estimation, the gun’s power had increased by about thirty percent. With the enhancement from the bullets, it should reach fifty percent.
"Not bad." Wei’en held the revolver and aimed at a few nearby targets. It felt comfortable and handled smoothly.
With his Master-level Gun Skill, he could perceive the detailed parameters of a firearm the moment he gripped it.
"Comfortable" was the highest praise he could give it.
If it were his sniper rifle, Wei’en would certainly have given it higher praise.
With that in mind, he used the Golden Key to go to the Clown Theater, wanting to see the revolver’s power firsthand and run some tests.
"So this really is a True World?"
As soon as he arrived in the theater, Wei’en saw the messy scene: tables and chairs blown to bits, bullet holes riddling the walls—all remnants of him venting his frustrations last night.
He had thought the damage would reset periodically, like in a game world.
Apparently, he’d been overthinking it.
BANG, BANG BANG BANG...
"Effective range of 300 meters—a six-fold increase. And the power boost is more than fifty percent?" Wei’en observed the revolver’s various stats as he fired.
Overall, aside from needing to reload more frequently than before, all its other capabilities were superior to the standard-issue firearm.
’Reload frequency...’
Wei’en looked at the revolver thoughtfully. ’Perhaps I should also prepare a weapon similar to an assault rifle.’
That way, he could switch between different weapons at any time to handle different combat scenarios.
Still, his current three firearms were sufficient for now.
Against an Extraordinary with strong defenses, he had the sniper rifle to break through. For close-quarters combat, he had the Six-Barreled Shotgun and the revolver. You could certainly call him a formidable Gunman.
Wei’en looked at the ghosts above him and scratched his head. ’But I’m a Wizard...’
He had four systems of Magic, yet he still had to rely on various firearms to fight.
’Sigh, this is just—’
Wei’en returned to the workshop, tossed the revolver and the newly made bullets into the Mechanical Gate, and then began moving everything from the workshop into the theater.
’I wonder when the Abyssal Sect, the people from the Black Pearl, and that mastermind hiding behind the scenes plan to make their move...’
Just in case, Wei’en decided to prepare for a fight at a moment’s notice.
If things went south, he could hide in the theater.
Plus, by moving his workshop into the theater’s space, he could use his tools anytime, which would be much more convenient.
Before long, Wei’en finished packing. He went downstairs and saw the three of them still staring at each other. "Tina, let’s go," he said with a sigh of resignation.
"Tina, go."
The white-haired girl immediately stood up, took a step forward to grasp his hand, and leaned obediently against him, her eyes glancing, as if unintentionally, toward the Mechanical Life.
