Chapter 240: Chapter 123: Figurehead of the Homecoming (Part 4)
"After everything that’s happened these past few days, I’m sure of it—I really hate the Abyssal Sect. No, I hate anyone who treats life like it’s disposable!"
’Is it hard work?’
’Perhaps.’
Wei’en didn’t say anything. He had only taken the initiative to kill those parasites so he could have a better chance at survival.
To be honest, he didn’t feel much guilt about it.
They could no longer be called human—they were merely husks controlled by Abyssal Creatures.
"I’ve seen many people corrupted into abominations before, but it’s never affected me as deeply as it has now..."
"So?"
Kali took a deep breath. "I want the Dawn Church to change. They should be the ones protecting the city state, a role they’re better suited for than the Secret Investigation Department."
"When I was in the Hall of Heroic Spirits, seeing the belongings of so many fallen Investigators... I can’t help but wonder, when they made their sacrifice, during all those disasters, what was the Dawn Church doing?"
She paused. "Were they just like this time, holed up inside Krimms Cathedral?"
Wei’en tilted his umbrella up slightly, his gaze following hers toward Krimms Cathedral in the distance. "That’s something I’d like to know, too."
He thought of the Glory Society and the nobles in the Natali District, the Council and the Secret Investigation Department in the central district, the Black Pearl to the west, and the Abyssal Sect, the Despair Sect, and the Red Moon Church to the east...
’Could their ultimate target be this cathedral that has stood for countless years?’
Wei’en couldn’t help but chuckle. The idea was a bit unrealistic.
Even the Secret Investigation Department had several thousand Extraordinaries; Krimms Cathedral could only be stronger.
With the buffs from the Dawn Church’s overpowered faith system, wanting to make a move on the Cathedral with the amount of Extraordinary Power they’ve shown so far was a far-fetched dream.
"Wei’en, I want to make a change now more than ever," Kali said, unaware of his thoughts, her expression melancholic.
"Then do it," Wei’en said, glancing at her. "Some things can’t be accomplished by just thinking about them."
[You have been targeted by Melbel Osiris’s killing intent. Evaluation: Here we go again. He’s truly everywhere. Reward: Survival Points +3.]
’Just three points?’
Wei’en scoffed internally. ’That’s a far cry from what I got from Matteo of the Abyssal Sect.’
’But it seems this Guardian Knight doesn’t want Kali to have such ideas, huh?’
"You think so, too?"
"Of course," Wei’en said, his mind racing. "I think you should be the one to lead Krimms Cathedral through this change. It would be the best way to protect the Caster City State."
’Since you don’t want Kali to think this way, I’ll just give her a little push. How do you like that?’
[You have been targeted by Melbel Osiris’s killing intent... Reward: Survival Points +5.]
Wei’en was secretly delighted. ’Five points. The killing intent has gotten stronger. Looks like I’m heading in the right direction.’
After growing so much recently, he was no longer the clueless newbie he used to be. He had even killed two Minister-level Abyssal Creatures.
He wasn’t the least bit afraid of a Minister-level Extraordinary like Melbel now.
"Yes, I’ll do my best!"
A smile bloomed on Kali’s face. Having apparently made a decision in her heart, she seemed even more radiant.
"I’m sure you’ll succeed." Wei’en smiled back, wondering if this was the right direction for her to obtain the authority of a Saintess.
’It seems like the only one left is the authority of Judgment, right?’
Tsk.
If Kali also succeeded in obtaining the authority of a Saintess, the Dawn Church would have four Saintesses. That sounded pretty intimidating.

’Excellent. Keep it coming. Don’t stop. Please don’t stop!’
When the two returned to Golden Street, Wei’en went back to his residence. He could faintly hear a conversation between Kali and Yuan outside.
"Dad, were you on a house call? You’re just getting back now?"
"Ahaha, that’s right. I don’t know what’s going on today, but so many people are injured."
"Let me tell you, try not to go out too much during this time. It’s too dangerous..."
Hearing this, Wei’en sighed with envy. It seemed nice to have someone who cared about you.
He subconsciously glanced at the bedroom where Clelia was staying. It seemed that woman hadn’t returned yet...
"Wei’en."
"Hm?"
"Welcome home."
Wei’en stared at Miss Zombie standing on the stairs, momentarily stunned.
’Damn it, what is this warm feeling spreading through my chest?’
