Chapter 1468: Just a beginner

When he was done saying the things he wanted to say, the fairy was still silent.

It seemed like the fairy was lost in deep thought with how it didn’t say anything, but Lin Fan could tell that there was something else that the fairy was thinking.

The best way to describe it was homesickness.

He didn’t know what the situation of the fairy was, but it didn’t seem like it was willing to share it with him with the expression on its face. Not to mention, there was no guarantee that it would have been able to share it with him.

Many things that were related to the Dao Sect had been kept from him all because of the restriction that had been placed on the Dao Sect.

After a long silence, the fairy said, "Thank you."

It was a simple two words, but the emotions behind it were genuine.

In response, Lin Fan gave a simple nod to show his understanding.

Once their talk was over, the fairy waved her hand and released the barrier that she had put up around them.

When it was gone, Ye Qing Huan came over with a look that said, "What happened?"

Lin Fan just gave her a look back that said, "It’s fine."

Though he was surprised to see Xiao Mu come over as well.

He didn’t think that Xiao Mu would care about him, but it seemed like he had made a small impression in its newly developed feelings. Or could it be that it was just making sure that he didn’t die before it could get rid of him?

Regardless of what it was, they moved over as if they were planning on protecting him.

Not that he needed to be protected in the first place.

The fairy didn’t seem to care that the two of them were acting this way and it didn’t explain what she had spoken to Lin Fan in private about.

Instead, she just opened a set of stairs and started floating up those stairs.

Lin Fan didn’t say anything as he moved forward even though Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu seemed to hesitate for a second, but they still followed him forward when they saw following behind the fairy.

They even moved a bit faster as if they were coming in between him and the fairy, almost as if they were still protecting him.

But it seemed like the fairy had lost all interest in Lin Fan after they had their conversation. The only thing that the fairy seemed interested in was bringing them further up this tower.

After walking for a while, they finally arrived on the second floor.

Though with how long they had been walking, it really was strange to consider this the second floor. In any other building, this would have already been considered the fourth or fifth floor.

They already knew that the rooms were big because they had seen the high ceilings and all the books that were stored on the first floor, but they never thought that it would actually be this big.

After arriving on the second floor, there wasn’t much for them to see.

After all, this second floor was very similar to the first floor that they came from.

The only difference was the sensation that came from the bookshelves.

On the first floor, there really wasn’t much of an aura that came from the various techniques stored there. That was enough to show that those techniques weren’t that special to begin with.

But on this second floor, they could sense the aura coming from these books.

These books were clearly of a much higher grade than the ones on the first floor.

Once they arrived at this floor, the fairy went over to a desk that was similar to the one that she had sat at before.

When she saw them just standing there looking around, she said, "Well? Sit down and get ready for your second test."

"Isn’t it redundant to have a second test like this?" Lin Fan couldn’t help asking this question.

The fairy narrowed her eyes to look at them before saying, "You think that you’re all that special because you passed the first test? That was just a beginner test, that wasn’t even considered a warm up. If you really want to take this trial, then you should prepare yourself."

Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan couldn’t help revealing wry smiles when they heard this.

After all, the test that they had taken had just been called a beginner test and it wasn’t as if they could agree with this. With their knowledge, they knew that if most of the disciples from the Five Great Sects that were in the ruins with them took the test, around 90% of them would have failed that test.

That test might seem simple to those that were very learned, but it wasn’t simple for a normal cultivator. It was even considered hard for an above average cultivator.

So they couldn’t help wondering what other tests they would have to take.

Not to mention that the fairy had just called it a beginner test...

If that was just a beginner test, then logic would dictate that there would be an intermediate test and an advanced test that followed. With the level of the Dao Sect, there might even be a top tier test waiting for them at the very end.

It was already hard enough for them to imagine what an advanced test for the level of the Dao Sect would be, much less a top tier test waiting behind that.

So both Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan knew that this wouldn’t be easy.

But it wasn’t as if the two of them were the kinds of people that would back down from a challenge.

Even if they couldn’t pass, it wasn’t as if there wasn’t a way to get the techniques that were here. Not to mention that it was very unlikely that anyone else would be able to find their way into this place.

So it wasn’t as if they didn’t have time to work with.

Which was why the two of them just sat down at their respective desks and waited for the exam to come.

The same thing happened where the fairy started handing out the test papers just like before. Only this time, she completely ignored Xiao Mu who had also sat down at one of the tables.

Xiao Mu didn’t seem happy about this, but it wasn’t as if it could do anything since the fairy was just completely ignoring it.

After handing out the tests, the fairy just lit up another incense and sat down.

Once that incense was lit, the same thing happened where the test questions revealed themselves.

Xiao Mu tried to go over to where Ye Qing Huan was, as if it was trying to see the questions on the paper as well. It was just that there was some kind of invisible barrier that appeared in front of it that cut it off from Ye Qing Huan.

Xiao Mu tried moving around it, but it found that this was a barrier that had completely surrounded Ye Qing Huan.

This barrier created a box around Ye Qing Huan that Xiao Mu just couldn’t pass.

It seemed like Xiao Mu was recognized as a non examinee, which was why it was separated from Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan.

There was this barrier that appeared around Lin Fan’s desk as well.

There was nothing that Xiao Mu could do other than glare at the fairy, but the fairy didn’t seem to care about how Xiao Mu was acting. The only thing that the fairy seemed to care about was that they didn’t cheat with how she watched over them.

Once Xiao Mu settled down, Lin Fan went back to his test which he admitted deserved the intermediate rank.

Even though the questions were harder, it wasn’t as if they were so hard that he didn’t know how to answer them.

He could see that the Ye Qing Huan was the same as she was filling out her test paper as well.

It seemed like the difficulty scaling of this exam was quite reasonable.

Or that was the case until he flipped past the first page.

Once he flipped that first page, he realized that the ones in front were the easy questions and these were the real questions.

What was amazing was that Ye Qing Huan still didn’t have a problem as she kept writing things down on the paper.

So in the end, Lin Fan had no choice but to skip the questions that were in front of him.

He didn’t know how to answer and he knew that it would be a waste of time just staring at them. So instead of staring at these questions, it was best to see what the other questions were like and see if he could answer them.

It wasn’t until he reached the back of the exam that he finally started being able to answer the questions.

It was only when he reached the part about mana manipulation that he was able to understand what he was reading.

Though it did make him reveal a wry smile seeing that there were still questions about mana on this exam.

Once he was done with those, Lin Fan went backwards on the exam as he tried to answer the rest of the questions.

Only when he went to the first question, he couldn’t help feeling that something was off.
