Chapter 93: I’m handsome and rich

Chapter 12 - I’m handsome and rich

Rosie’s POV

Even though Jude had given me full access to the penthouse and told me to explore or do anything I wanted, I still texted him beforehand to let him know I was having a friend over. It was just basic courtesy not to shock him when he comes back from training. He had replied with a simple, "It’s your house too, wifey. Do whatever you want,” which had left a strange, fluttering warmth in my chest.

That flirt!

My guest for the afternoon was none other than Kira; she had called me earlier. She was coming to visit since she was still on her vacation from work. She was working as a swimming coach for middle students in our big school. I couldn’t believe it when she told me that; I thought she would just be a rich heiress and rely on her parents’ money or already have an office in her father’s company.

As a nepo baby.

And ever since our meeting at the cafe, Kira had officially designated herself as my new best friend, which I was happy for, and it was stressful because Kira was energetic. Our online chat history was already long—or rather, she did all the talking, spamming my phone with funny videos, fashion reels, and memes every single day, aggressively demanding that I watch every single one.

I didn’t think I had the energy to keep up, but it was still fun.

Today, she bounced into the penthouse full of energy as usual, bringing along bags of shopping bags and then shoving them into my arms. "housewarming gift," she grinned. And I was shocked.

I smiled, opening the door further to let her enter, then quickly took those bags into the room. “Thank you," I said, and she nudged, "No need of thanks between us, babe. We are besties," she grinned.

Then took a seat on the floor in a cross-legged style. I was shocked because of how quickly she adapted. I went to the fridge and took a bottle of orange juice, rinsed a glass cup, and served her.

Placed it on the tray and served her, adding a small cookie I had baked last night so that Mia also could take it to school this morning. Kira grinned at me and gulped the glass. "Refreshing," she released a relieved sigh. Shaking my head, God knows where she is coming from to be tired like this, and I refilled her cup. She is always shopping.

“So what are you doing?" she asked, seeing me taking a bowl.

"I’m thinking of baking a cake, just to keep my hands busy."

‘You know how to bake a cake?’ Shock was evident in her voice, and I nodded a little.

"I won’t say I’m a cook per se, but I bake sometimes when there are...” I trailed off, not wanting to finish the statement about almost expired products from the store.

Kira patted my back. "That’s awesome; I’ll watch and give commentary,” she said, grinning, acting like kids expecting Christmas gifts.

I brought out all the ingredients, then started mixing as Kira chattered off, jumping from what happened between her and her boyfriend last week to an incident that happened in school while I listened, nodding and giving a little input. After mixing, I placed the spatula down, and Kira picked it up before starting to lick the extra off it.

I didn’t bother cautioning her, although too much banter could cause a stomachache.

The front door clicked open, and a duffel bag echoed in the foyer, which made me know that Jude was back from the training center.

The moment he walked into the kitchen, his step paused as he looked from me to Kira, and I watched Kira look at him. I gulped, expecting a fight, talk, or anything, but to my surprise, Kira burst out laughing, holding her stomach as she guffawed loudly, nearly choking on her saliva.

I went to her, quickly patted her back, and gave her water, and I stared at Jude again to see what was making Kira laugh, and I momentarily closed my eyes in mortification, my jaw dropping.

When I looked at him earlier, I didn’t look at him like "look at him"; I was studying the tension between both of them, but now that I was looking at him, I shook my head. Jude hasn’t wiped it off.

Earlier this morning, Mia and I had playfully used some of Mia’s washable paints to draw doodles all over Jude’s face while he was lounging on the couch. I fully expected him to scrub his face clean the second he walked out the door. Instead, this psycho had driven across the city, walked into the training center, and completed a training with his teammates while rocking neon pink and blue butterfly doodles on his cheekbones.

Fuck!

“Stop cackling like an evil witch, Kira,” Jude grumbled, ignoring her hysterics. He opened the refrigerator, pulled out a cold bottle of water, and took a long gulp.

“Jude!” I gasped, my cheeks turning pink. “Did you seriously go to practice looking like that? Weren’t you embarrassed?!”

Jude looked at me, an amused smile pulling at the corners of his painted lips. “Why would I be embarrassed? I think I looked awesome.”

“Who on earth told you that?” Kira wheezed, wiping a tear from her eye.

“No one needs to tell me. I just know." He shrugged carelessly, leaning against the counter.

“Arrogant much?” Kira commented, rolling her eyes.

Jude smirked, flashing her a sly smile. “What can I say? When I’m this handsome and rich," he boasted.

Before I could call him out, Ude closed the distance between us as he walked right up to where I was standing by the oven, tilted my chin up, and leaned down to plant a peck on my cheek. “I loved the gift, wifey,” he grinned, his voice dropping into his usual teasing tone that made my heart flip. “Next time, I don’t mind if you do some painting on my chest, too.”

My face instantly caught fire, a blush exploding all the way down to my neck while Kira gagged, making a loud vomiting sound. “Oh, please! Stop being such a flirt,” she grumbled, shivering dramatically. “It is cringey coming from a guy like you.”

“Haha,” Jude laughed dryly, giving her a smug look as he poured himself a glass of ice. “My wife didn’t complain, thank you very much," he responded. “So, what exactly are you doing here anyway?” He plopped down onto one of the barstools, eyeing her. “Don’t tell me you secretly missed me and you’re back to finish the wedding.”

Kira’s face scrunched up, scoffing. “Please. If you were the very last man left on the face of the earth, I would voluntarily sign up to become a nun.”

Jude grinned wickedly. “The feeling is entirely mutual," he said. “If I had to marry you, I’d become a priest. At least then I’d get to listen to all the juicy confessions. Lord forgive me," he fluttered his eyes closed, joined his hands, and said.

Kira rolled her eyes. “Ugh, please,” she muttered. She hopped off the counter and walked over to wrap her arms around me in a protective side hug. “I came here to see my new bestie, not you.”

Jude immediately wedged himself right between us, smoothly breaking her grip on me with a smile. “You know,” Jude said, leaning back and crossing his arms as he stared at Kira, his tone accusatory. “I haven’t forgotten about that slap at the altar, by the way. Why the hell did you hit me so hard? I was literally helping you escape, too.”

Kira shrugged unbothered. “Hey, I had to really get into the role! If I didn’t make it look realistic, people would have started asking questions. It was method acting.” She then paused, looking around the penthouse before smiling brightly. “Besides, look at us today. It worked out perfectly. You got your sweet, beautiful wife, and I get to be with my lovely boyfriend.”

Jude shook his head, letting out a dramatic lament. “I honestly have no idea what River sees in a loud, controlling woman like you.”

“And I have no idea how a sweet girl like Rosie ended up with a brute like you!” Kira retorted immediately, crossing her arms right back at him.

The two of them continue a petty bickering match, trading insults back and forth—they do like siblings or say twins with the way they are bickering against one another, well, and they match each other’s energy.

I shook my head, sighing yet with a smile on my face as I put on the glove and brought out the baked cake.

I inhaled sharply the vanilla scent assaulting my nose. Nothing beat homemade cake.

***

I don’t know if anyone is reading this book 2,please kindly comment and lemme know your thoughts. I want to write another version of Rosie that she knows when to latch out and when to retract. And Jude being himself. It’s. A short story though- maybe 30 Chapters, I can’t say yet because I’ve planned it out. I’ve introduced some familiar faces. Kira x River are still the same, Elena x Marcus.
