Chapter 329: Chapter 329: The Unspeakable Secret

Just at this moment, Director Xiao’s phone suddenly rang, and soon he answered the call and walked to a position on one side.

Barely two minutes had passed before Director Xiao walked back, but, astonishingly, there was a smile on his face.

"You know what, it’s as if heaven is helping us. A body has just died, and, it seems, it’s an unclaimed body, so it should be sent over quite soon."

"So that means, it will still be those two brothers, and then, they’ll bring the person here to Li Er’s place, right?"

"No, it’s not going to be those same two. They have other matters, and it should be someone else replacing them. But under the bright light of day, what can he do?"

"He may not be able to do anything during the day, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do anything at night. And after arriving, all I want to prove is one thing: whether or not this body gets cremated immediately. If it does, then we basically have no guesses to make."

"If it’s not immediately cremated, that means there’s definitely a clandestine transaction hidden here, right?"

"Exactly, that’s the plan. So, we truly can’t leave this place now, and furthermore, we need to find a spot that’s very inconspicuous to hide in."

After saying this, Liu Zheng simply nodded his head and then looked around.

"We just came through the main entrance, and we must also leave through the main entrance to make them believe we’ve left. Then, you drive the car around to this side of the enclosure wall. I noticed there seems to be a way through on this side of the boiler room. Later, we can lay low nearby."

Director Xiao nodded, and the two of them got up and left straight from there.

Following Liu Zheng’s instructions, they drove around to the other side, and sure enough, there was a small grove of trees where, usually, no one would come.

Besides, being right beside the crematorium, who would be bold enough to come here without a reason?

"Do you see that tree? If we climb up, we’ll have a clear view of the yard inside."

"Dr. Liu, you’re quite something, aren’t you? Climbing trees too? I really can’t do that. I can’t climb such a high tree."

"No worries, you don’t have to climb. All you need to do is stay here and wait for the message. Once the body is confirmed to be on the move, we’ll calculate the time. Then I can go up at just the right moment from this spot and see the whole cremation ground."

"All right, then just wait here for a while. The whole process should take about an hour, after all, there are many procedures to go through."

After finishing, he just nodded, leaned on one side of the car, and looked around.

"Hey, Dr. Liu, what about that matter our director discussed with you last time? Have you thought about it?"

"Ah, which matter?"

The sudden question genuinely caught Liu Zheng off-guard.

"You really have a short memory for such an important person. It’s about our director sincerely inviting you to join our hospital. Why do you still need to think about it? I tell you, no matter what conditions you set, the director will surely meet them."

"Ha, Director Xiao, I really appreciate your recognition, but to be honest, I’ve grown too accustomed to freedom and dislike such constraints. Plus, that small clinic in the village is my foundation; I can’t abandon it."

"There’s got to be a compromise, right? And you don’t have to give up the clinic. Moreover, the villagers aren’t far from the hospital—if they have any issues, they can just go to the hospital to find you. Isn’t that the same?"

"People have their own ambitions, I suppose. Right now, I really haven’t made up my mind, but don’t worry, I’ll definitely give it some serious thought when I get back."

"Okay, okay, I can’t force you, but I still hope you’ll seriously consider it and cherish this opportunity."

Liu Zheng didn’t speak, but merely smiled and nodded. Finally, he walked toward the other side of the grove.

He only wanted to get away from Director Xiao; he didn’t want to discuss his job with him. After all, he had already made up his mind—he definitely wouldn’t go there.

In the small grove, there really wasn’t much to explore; it was practically all wilderness and seemed completely uninhabited.

After taking a walk around, Liu Zheng felt there was nowhere else to go, and sensing that the time was about right, he returned to where he had been.

"Where did you go? I was just about to call you when I received a message saying they’ve set off. Based on the distance, they should arrive in about 15 minutes."

Upon hearing this, Liu Zheng became spirited. If he could successfully see the body delivered, then he would witness firsthand where Li Er would transport the body from this location.

"Fine, then I’ll go up the tree now and wait while you stay below and await my signal. If anything happens, we’ll communicate with each other."

After speaking, Liu Zheng embraced the large tree and quickly climbed to its highest point with effortless agile movements, like a nimble monkey.

And indeed, from the thickly leaved branches, if one looked from the outside, one would never suspect that a person was hidden there.

Liu Zheng had excellent eyesight, which allowed him to clearly see the entire crematorium from his vantage point.

A little over ten minutes later, he saw a white van slowly enter. When the van stopped at the receiving area, a driver got out.

He had never seen this driver before and didn’t recognize him; the driver spoke briefly with someone there and then waited for a minute or two as if processing some paperwork.

Then, he got back into the van, but when the van turned a corner, Liu Zheng noticed it didn’t seem to be headed toward the boiler room.

The van stopped outside a row of houses; the door opened, and two men in dark coats emerged, pushing a flatbed cart from inside.

Liu Zheng saw clearly that these two men were not the previous Li Er he had encountered, and in fact, he hadn’t seen Li Er at all at that moment.

Subsequently, the wrapped body was placed on the flatbed cart. They exchanged a few polite words, signed some documents, and then drove away from the site.

The gate closed tightly again.

Liu Zheng waited in the tree for over ten minutes, and noticing no further activity, he jumped down from the tree.

"How did it go? Did you discover anything? Where did they take the body?"
