Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Contact Information
But it’s not his fault that he didn’t recognize the person.
After all, how could he possibly remember a primary school classmate so clearly after so many years?
Especially since he remembered Wang Yong as being rather small and a bit short in stature, underdeveloped, to be surprised to now see him looking tall and robust, unrecognizably different from his childhood.
Therefore, he simply couldn’t recall him at first glance.
But once he realized who it was, he immediately smiled and said,
"Hey, I had no idea it was you, you should have said so earlier. I can’t believe how tall and strong you’ve grown. I remember when you were the shortest one in our class."
After hearing this, Wang Yong also smiled sheepishly and replied,
"Yeah, I was really short when I was a kid, malnourished. I never expected to suddenly start growing taller."
"And look at you, you’ve become even more handsome over the years. It’s been such a long time since I last saw you, I’ve really missed you."
After saying this, Liu Zheng was somewhat embarrassed.
Honestly, he knew he was quite good-looking since many girls had chased after him since he was young.
But hearing this from another man made him feel a bit awkward and unsure of how to respond.
So he quickly found something to say in return,
"You too, you look great."
But he quickly realized that Wang Yong’s sudden, inexplicable visit must mean something.
After all, they hadn’t been in touch for so long; if Wang Yong said there was nothing important, he wouldn’t believe it.
So at this moment, Liu Zheng became more guarded,
wondering if Wang Yong needed a favor and whether he should oblige.
Of course, it’d be best if there was no issue at all.
Soon, they started chatting,
"How have you been doing lately? What are you up to now?"
Upon hearing this question, Wang Yong just raised his hand, gesturing resignedly, and let out a sigh,
"Don’t even mention it. I was working on some construction projects, but some issues came up, ah, it’s a long story."
After this, Liu Zheng had an uneasy feeling. Was Wang Yong about to ask to borrow money?
Clearly, as he suspected, Wang Yong was indeed facing some business problems.
Why else would he suddenly seek out Liu Zheng, whom he hadn’t contacted for so long?
"Ah, really? Well, it seems times are tough for everyone. I’ve also run into some problems on my end, quite troublesome indeed."
Anticipating that Wang Yong might soon ask for his help, Liu Zheng said so,
framing his own situation as difficult, to make any refusal easier later on,
just in case Wang Yong made an extravagant request.
Unexpectedly, though, Wang Yong didn’t have any such intentions. Instead, he nodded and said,
"Yeah, it’s really challenging for everyone. But no worries, things will definitely get better. I’m here because we’ve organized a class reunion and I was wondering if you’d like to come."
"They just reached out to me recently and didn’t have your contact information. Since we’re from the same village, I made a special trip back to tell you."
"I’ve turned down their previous invites because, as you know, I was really busy with construction projects. But something happened not long ago that has given me a break, otherwise I wouldn’t have had this opportunity."
Liu Zheng had originally expected Wang Yong to start lamenting as soon as he saw him, perhaps to ask for some help with construction or some other favor.
But he had never imagined it was for a reason like this.
That certainly surprised Liu Zheng, making him wonder why they would do such a thing.
Nonetheless, as things had progressed to this point,
and given that Wang Yong had come all this way to tell him, it would be somewhat rude not to go.
Plus, none of concerns he had anticipated came to pass.
After pondering for a moment, and realizing he really didn’t have anything important planned, he finally agreed to come,
"Sure, no problem at all. You’ve come all this way to find me, it wouldn’t be right for me to decline."
"If you find some free time later, we should definitely get together properly, catch up with the other guys. It’s been so long since we’ve all gathered."
Wang Yong seemed genuinely pleased to hear this,
"Yes, absolutely. I’ve been thinking about those old times too. Honestly, they were some pretty good days."
"After entering society, it’s hard to find such pure friendships."
As Liu Zheng nodded in agreement, he felt the same way.
Once out in the world, everyone has their own lives to lead, their own business to take care of, making it hard to keep in touch regularly. And the friendships one makes in the social realm often come with their own agendas,
aren’t as pure as the ones from student days.
Truly, friends from school are a rare find.
"Alright, let’s not dwell on this now, my family is waiting for me to join them for the reunion meal. We’ll exchange contact details and I’ll send you the time and place."
Upon hearing this, Liu Zheng naturally couldn’t argue and promptly shared his contact information.
Soon after adding each other, Wang Yong departed,
and as Liu Zheng watched his receding figure, a flood of emotions washed over him.
Truth be told, he hadn’t stayed in touch with many of his old friends over the years.
Some, due to various reasons, didn’t even have his contact information,
naturally, he didn’t have theirs either.
But he had never thought that such an opportunity would arise, allowing them to meet and reconnect.
This excited him, as he wondered what interesting events lay ahead,
it naturally seemed like a good thing to him.
