Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Setting Things Straight

Unfortunately, she was quickly swarmed by an entourage and entered the hotel, disappearing from Yang Hui’s view.

He saw Zhang Chun had already stepped out of his car and was standing respectfully to the side. This titan, whose very presence could shake the foundations of Qingzhou’s business world—and even the nation’s—didn’t even seem qualified to approach her.

Then, the rest of the motorcade’s personnel followed her inside. Judging from a distance by their attire and the equipment they carried, he figured they were likely a security team, a medical team, secretaries, and legal advisors. There might have even been stylists and a personal photographer.

What an entourage. He’d never seen a procession like this, not even on TV!

Just then, someone up ahead beckoned, and he watched Zhang Chun quickly trot over before following them into the hotel.

He started the car and headed back to pick up Wenren Du’Er.

His phone rang. It was Wang Xiao; the two had exchanged contact information that morning.

"Manager Wang~"

"Mr. Yang, after President Shan reported to the boss, we can offer you a monthly salary of 15,000. What do you think?

If that’s acceptable, I can send you the offer today."

’15,000? That’s not bad, about what I expected. I’ll only be working for three months at most anyway. By then, my unemployment benefits will have turned into 30 million a month, so this is a pretty good deal!’

He gave Wang Xiao his confirmation and agreed to officially start at Futong Commerce next Monday as the operations manager for the Airex brand.

For this move, he’d only brought the bare essentials, tossing everything else. The Wenjing Yunlu apartment was already fully furnished. For daily necessities, he could go to the supermarket on the B1 level of the nearby Xinyue Square or head to the upper floors of Yida Department Store for more high-end bedding.

After swiping his card, the elevator doors opened directly into the apartment, which the display showed was on the third floor.

The moment the door slid open, Wenren Du’Er’s pupils constricted. Sunlight poured in through the six-meter-high, floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a flowing, golden ocean across the Italian herringbone floors.

She subconsciously clutched the faded strap of her backpack, rubbing her canvas shoes against the edge of the carpet three times before daring to step on it, as if that brightly lit expanse were some kind of dangerous illusion.

Yang Hui handed her a pair of slippers with a small bear design. "Why so formal? You’re home now."

He had asked Liu Shasha to help him buy the slippers and some other daily necessities yesterday, a task she was clearly more than happy to perform!

"Dad, I’m a little scared!"

Hearing this, he looked at her in confusion. "Scared of what?"

"I’m scared I’ll wake up one day and find out I’m still a homeless kid!"

He walked over and ruffled her hair. "That’s not going to happen. Those days are gone for good!"

"Dad, you’re messing up my hair!"

Wenren Du’Er pouted. ’This "Dad" of mine is perfect, except for how much he loves to mess up my hair. Doesn’t he know girls care about their appearance? He’s turning it into a total bird’s nest.’

"Alright, my apologies. Du’Er, why don’t you go check out your room and see if you like it?"

Her face filled with anticipation. The moment she pushed open the door, her breath caught in her throat—

A starlight ceiling fixture glowed with a faint blue light, even in the daytime, as if a corner of the Milky Way had been torn off and pasted overhead.

By the bay window stood a life-sized Disney princess mirror, its crystal-encrusted frame scattering rainbows in the sunlight.

She absolutely loved it. Like an explorer, she was eager to investigate every corner.

She approached a bookshelf with a built-in slide. As she neared the desk, a drawer automatically popped open, revealing a pink Polaroid camera and a notepad. The first blank piece of instant film had a message printed on it: "Welcome, new owner. What story will you create today?"

Du’Er smiled, picked up a pen, and wrote on the notepad: "My dad is the best and most romantic dad in the entire world!"

Later, she was curled up in a seashell-shaped beanbag chair, her legs propped up and her feet dangling, blissfully lost in thought until Yang Hui’s voice pulled her back.

He took Wenren Du’Er to Yida Department Store to buy some bedding, and they ate dinner out.

By the time they returned and tidied up a little, it was already 4:00 PM.

"Du’Er, you’ll be home alone tonight. I have something to do and might be back very late!"

Wenren Du’Er obediently nodded. "Okay, Dad. Don’t drink too much!"

He had bought some pre-made meals at the mall earlier, so Wenren Du’Er could easily fix herself dinner. After giving her a few more instructions, he got in his car and left.

The place Yang Na had booked for the farewell dinner was called Yunjing Restaurant.

It served fusion cuisine suitable for a variety of palates, with an average cost of around 150 yuan per person. If it weren’t for a special occasion like a farewell dinner, Yang Na and the others would never have splurged on this place, considering their salaries were only about 6,000 yuan a month.

She had even sent Yang Hui a message specifically to let him know that the women were splitting the bill and he didn’t have to pay.

Little did she know, that amount of money was nothing to Yang Hui now.

His black Mercedes-Benz E-Class sped along the expressway, reaching its destination in just half an hour.

He pulled into a parking spot. The restaurant was on the 12th floor, and as he rode the elevator up, he glanced at his reflection in the mirrored walls.

He was dressed casually, looking radiantly handsome. His charming eyes crinkled as he smiled, giving him an air that was both gentle and passionate.

Countless young women had surely been captivated by that very smile. He adjusted his collar and stepped out of the elevator.

Private Room 888. He pushed the door open and walked in.

"The boss is here!"

"Boss!"

Several of the women stood up to greet him.

Yang Na, Jiang Qin, and Li Qing.

It seemed three other people hadn’t arrived yet.

"Boss, you came so fast?"

He chuckled. ’How was he supposed to respond to that?’

"Jiang Qin, watch your mouth! As for whether the boss is fast or not, shouldn’t you be asking Yang Na?"

’This bunch of vixens,’ he thought. They’d always been like this, even when he was their supervisor. Completely professional at work, but in private, they loved to tease him relentlessly.

Yang Na turned and pinched Li Qing. "You’re really asking for it! I still haven’t reported you for trying to pull down the boss’s pants at karaoke last time!"

"Alright, you two, knock it off! Change the subject!"

He’d barely taken a sip of water and almost sprayed it everywhere thanks to them.

Li Qing retorted, "Yang Na, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! You were the one who said the boss was... crooked."

’Crooked?’ He put down his glass of water and stared at Li Qing, utterly confused.

"We told you to straighten it out for him! That’s why I went to unbuckle his belt. I just didn’t expect you to be able to fix it right through his pants!"

A chill ran down his spine. ’Just how much have they taken advantage of me? My little brother has truly suffered!’

"You are so dead~!"

Yang Na shot a glance at Yang Hui, her face burning with embarrassment. She lunged at Li Qing again, who scrambled away, running around the room. "Boss, do something!" Li Qing yelled. "She’s trying to silence a witness!"

"Do something about her? Right now, I want to kill both of you!"

Seeing Yang Hui grinding his teeth as if he wanted to throttle them, the ever-fearless Jiang Qin chimed in from the sidelines, "Did you hear that? The boss said he wants to take on two at once. Forget dinner, let’s just go to a hotel. I’ll book the room!"

Exhausted from the chase, Yang Na stopped, put her hands on her hips, and glared at Li Qing.

Li Qing shouted back, "I’m fine with it! The real questions are whether Yang Na would get jealous... and whether the boss can handle it!"
