Chapter 34: Chapter 32: The Student Council Exits, Survival Association

Chen Chong, Xu Jun, and the others walked over...

"Who’s that person up there?"

"He looks a little familiar. Isn’t he the president of the student council?"

"Now that you mention it, I remember. His name is... Sima?"

The two of them weren’t very familiar with the student council, but after two years at the school, they had some vague recollection of it.

On the high platform, all hundred-plus members of the student council stood behind him.

Sima was dressed meticulously in a crisp suit, his hair slicked back with pomade.

He held a battery-powered megaphone, and when he spoke, his voice echoed throughout the entire Central Square.

"My fellow students, I’m sure you all know what happened yesterday. This is the fourth day since our school was transported here, and it also marks the first time we’ve experienced such a large-scale incident of bloodshed..."

Chen Chong and his friends originally had no interest in the student council’s speech, but Sima’s very first sentence made them stop and listen.

’An incident of bloodshed?’

As Sima continued to speak, their expressions shifted dramatically. They finally learned that a Blood Python and a Giant Eagle had appeared by the river yesterday, and that the number of casualties had reached a terrifying figure...

"Holy crap, Brother Chong, that many people really died yesterday?"

Xu Jun was stunned. If it hadn’t been for this speech, he still wouldn’t have known about the Giant Eagle and the Blood Python.

In contrast, while Chen Chong’s expression also changed, he was far calmer.

After all, he had learned from his intel that two other giant beasts existed besides the Giant Catfish.

’I just never expected the incident mentioned in the intel to result in such a terrifying number of casualties...’

’No wonder the intel was rated A-Level. Three hundred people, a casualty rate of nearly one-third... The threat is far, far greater than the one posed by the Fear Wolves.’

On the high platform, Sima was still speaking into the megaphone.

"We now know that while this world has familiar plants and animals, it is also home to many terrifying creatures beyond our comprehension."

"Bipedal Overlord Wolves, Cannibal Flowers that can swallow a person whole, venomous hornets the size of a fist, and mushrooms that explode when you step on them."

"But beyond all of those, there are even more terrifying entities: the Giant Catfish in the river, the Giant Eagle, and the Blood Python..."

Chen Chong’s brow furrowed.

’Cannibal Flowers?’

’Venomous hornets?’

’Exploding mushrooms?’

’This is the first time I’m hearing about these. It seems others have encountered unique creatures as well.’

’In just four days, my scouting of the area around the school has clearly not been thorough enough.’

’I’ll have to find time to get in touch with the information brokers at the trading market again.’

’The more we understand about the surrounding jungle, the higher our chances of survival...’

"Before we were transported here, the student council was responsible for many aspects of student life, including planning, management, discipline, inspections, and statistics."

"Even after being transported, we have not forgotten our duty. That’s why, immediately after the incident of bloodshed, we investigated the casualties and the dangerous creatures involved."

"Now, we can basically confirm the death toll is around 87. As for those three creatures, our investigation has led us to a preliminary conclusion. We believe they can be classified as... Extraordinary Creatures!"

The moment he said those two words, an uproar erupted among the thousands of people in the square. A mixture of curiosity, shock, fear, and doubt spread through the crowd.

The term "Extraordinary Creatures" was not unfamiliar to anyone.

Many movies, TV shows, novels, comics, and even online forums featured descriptions and strange tales of Extraordinary Creatures.

But those were mostly man-made fabrications; no one believed they truly existed.

But now, in this world they’d been transported to, they had seen them with their own eyes...

A Cannibal Giant Catfish, over ten meters long, with a single horn on its head.

A Giant Eagle with a thirty-meter wingspan and great talons as hard as rock.

And a giant python, no less than twenty meters long, completely blood-red, with fangs like ivory tusks...

Creatures of such appearance and size, far beyond common knowledge and with their danger levels maxed out, would have easily been called monsters back in their original world.

If these weren’t the Extraordinary Creatures of legend, what else could they be?

To put it in perspective, the largest bird in the modern era, the Andean Condor, has a wingspan of only about 3 meters. The largest ever recorded was no more than 5 meters.

Even the largest pterosaur from the age of dinosaurs, the Quetzalcoatlus, only had a wingspan of 12 meters.

Yet the Giant Eagle that appeared yesterday, even without a precise measurement, had a conservative estimated wingspan of well over twenty meters.

In fact, it might have even reached thirty meters!

A bird’s wingspan can be misleading compared to its actual body size, but at that scale, any exaggeration was irrelevant. It was not something a normal person could fight.

Then there was the blood-red giant python. Its size was also absurd, reaching a length of at least twenty meters, with a torso more than one-and-a-half meters thick.

The ancient Titanoboa, rumored to be able to swallow an elephant, only reached a maximum length of fifteen meters.

No one knew if a Titanoboa could actually swallow an elephant, but the blood-red python from yesterday almost certainly could...

By comparison, the existence of the horned Giant Catfish seemed slightly more plausible.

After all, there were plenty of aquatic creatures larger than it; one could list a dozen from the ocean alone.

But this was a freshwater river!

A horned catfish over ten meters long was still a monster among monsters.

In just four short days, three such terrifying Extraordinary Creatures had appeared near the school. Heaven only knew what else was hiding in the depths of this seemingly endless Primitive Jungle.

The scarcity of food was already enough to make the students, who had almost zero survival experience, despair.

Now, having to face the threat of these Extraordinary Creatures, many were on the verge of a complete breakdown.

There were even rumors that a few students with weaker constitutions couldn’t take it anymore and had committed suicide the previous night.

They couldn’t bear the hunger and the threat of monsters, and they didn’t dare face this strange, dangerous world. Compared to being eaten alive or starving to death, taking their own lives was a more acceptable alternative...

Those who remained were shrouded in fear and confusion.

People like Chen Chong and his friends, who could remain calm and even think about strategies for how to best survive, were few and far between.

Most people trembled in despair at the news of the Extraordinary Creatures, feeling as helpless as leaves in the wind, like duckweed adrift on water.

They had no idea what to do next.

Seeing the fear on everyone’s faces below, a faint, almost imperceptible smile touched Sima’s lips as he stood on the high platform.

’My goal... has been achieved.’

’Now, it’s time to reap the rewards.’

"I know everyone is already frightened and confused about being transported here. I know many students are suffering from hunger, unable to find food. As the president of the student council, I cannot simply stand by and do nothing."

"The school has lost its original purpose, and by extension, so has the student council. It has permanently exited the stage of history. From this day forward, I have decided to rename the student council... the Survival Association!"

The Survival Association?

At his words, many people exchanged confused glances.

"The name says it all! Our goal is to lead everyone, to help us all survive in this brand new world!"

"If you can place your trust in me, give me a chance, and join the Survival Association, then as your president, I, Sima, will do everything in my power to lead you all toward a better chance at survival."

"The Survival Association won’t have many restrictions, only three ironclad rules. First, members are forbidden from fighting amongst themselves. Second, you must obey all directives absolutely. And third, the capable will be rewarded more!"

"In contrast, the member benefits are numerous. You’ll enjoy shared information, priority access to resources, medical support, mutual aid between members, and... a guarantee of food."

"As long as you join the Survival Association, follow orders, and complete your daily tasks, you will all receive at least a basic food ration, ensuring that you won’t starve."

"Of course, those who make outstanding contributions will also receive more generous rewards based on the significance of their actions..."
