Chapter 32: Chapter 30: Using the Building Card, A Plan to Raise Fish
These four Cards were all the Building Cards Chen Chong had obtained over the past four days.
The one that puzzled Chen Chong the most was the Vacant Land Card. What would the expanded space described in its introduction look like after a successful expansion?
Would it change the appearance of the building from the outside?
Filled with questions, he first used the D-Class white Vacant Land Card...
As the Card slowly dissolved into white light and vanished, the space, which was originally only five square meters, suddenly expanded by a large amount.
The extended space connected to the surrounding walls and floor. Aside from lacking the white paint on the walls and the tiles on the floor, there was almost no difference. Its ceiling was also slightly higher than the rest of the room.
The ceiling height of the faculty apartment was 2.8 meters. The space created by the Vacant Land Card was probably exactly 3 meters high.
Staring at the large, blank space that had suddenly appeared, Chen Chong stood stunned for a good while before walking over to touch the new walls and floor.
The floor and walls were both concrete, as if the Vacant Land Card had replicated the basic structure of the adjoining area.
Chen Chong couldn’t help but wonder, ’With so much new space added inside, will it jut out and be visible from the outside?’
With this question in mind, he went outside...
In the hallway, Chen Chong poked his head out. There was no change.
He went back inside to the kitchen balcony on the other side. Still no change.
From the outside, the entire apartment showed no irregularities. It was as if the extra area existed in another dimension, only manifesting within the world inside the room.
The magic of the Vacant Land Card amazed Chen Chong, but he wasn’t overly shocked.
After all, the very existence of things like Cards was already unscientific. As long as the Vacant Land Card didn’t alter the building’s external structure, it was fine.
Otherwise, if he acquired more Vacant Land Cards and used them repeatedly, wouldn’t the whole building become misshapen and instantly noticeable to any outsider?
Chen Chong used the C-Class Vacant Land Card next.
Compared to the D-Class Card’s 10 square meters, the C-Class Card could create 50 square meters of vacant land.
The already enlarged bedroom expanded again. The new empty space in front of it stretched out even further, adding a huge section.
The bedroom’s area grew to 65 square meters.
"Holy cow, it’s this big?"
Chen Chong was dumbfounded. His original room now occupied just a small corner, and the entire expansion had started from there. Looking around, the room was now ridiculously spacious.
’Feels like I could renovate it into a two-bedroom apartment in here...’
With this much space, he no longer had to worry about smells from other buildings mixing or his rest being disturbed.
As long as the space was big enough, those problems were no longer problems.
In the future, he just needed to partition off the five-square-meter area with the bed and floor tiles. The excess space could be used to place all sorts of different buildings without affecting his sleep at night in the slightest.
Chen Chong then used the Beast Cage Card. Considering the potential smell from raising animals in the future, he deliberately went to the farthest corner of the room to use it.
As the white light faded, a 5-square-meter beast cage appeared.
The cage was nothing special, just made of wooden planks joined together. It looked a bit crude but was very sturdy. The spacing between the planks was just right, allowing for a perfect view of the inside without obstructing one’s line of sight.
Next up was the most important Building Card: the Fishpond Card!
This was the highest-level Building Card Chen Chong had obtained so far, a B-Level Card that glowed with a blue light.
He chose a spot next to the beast cage.
Soon, a 50-square-meter fishpond appeared in the room.
If Chen Chong hadn’t calculated the fishpond’s size in advance and cleared out a 50-square-meter area, he probably would have fallen right into the water.
The fishpond took up most of the current room, leaving only a few square meters between it and the bed.
There was nothing special about it; it was just an ordinary fishpond.
It was surrounded by a concrete-like embankment, and the pond water looked exceptionally clear and clean—probably even drinkable. A visual estimate put the depth at about 1.5 meters, not too deep, not too shallow.
"This can be used for more than just raising fish in the future; it has a lot of other great uses..."
Looking at the fishpond before him, Chen Chong smiled.
With this fishpond, he and the others would no longer need to go outside to fetch water. They could just use the water from the pond.
Although the water wasn’t purified, it was perfectly fine for washing things.
If they wanted to drink it, there would be no problem after boiling it to sterilize it.
Chen Chong wandered around the room for another half hour, looking back and forth between the fishpond and the beast cage, before his excitement finally began to subside.
After calming down, he realized that even though the room was now 65 square meters, it still felt a bit crowded with all the new structures.
Also, living in a damp environment long-term could easily lead to skin problems like eczema.
But that was fine. If he got more Vacant Land Cards in the future, he could infinitely expand the room’s area.
The issues of dampness and crowding would naturally resolve themselves.
’One day, this place will definitely be expanded into a massive space, one comparable to a school.’
’Maybe even a small world where anything is possible...’
Chen Chong shook his head. ’I’m getting ahead of myself. For now, I should focus on finding some fish and small wild animals to raise.’
Otherwise, leaving these two buildings here was no different from a waste.
’It’s about time. Ah Jun and the others should be awake. I need to get them to help cure the meat, and we should go out and get the things mentioned in today’s intel.’
When he walked out of the room again, it was already an hour after he had first gone out...
The moment he opened the door, Chen Chong froze.
Xu Jun and Jia Wen were indeed awake, sitting on the living room sofa with Wang Biao.
But the once-familiar living room had been completely transformed!
A plot of farmland, about five square meters in size, had appeared at the kitchen entrance, leaving only a narrow path to get through.
Next to it stood a wooden-fenced enclosure of the same five-square-meter size.
In addition, the total area had also changed significantly. Grayish-white extensions had appeared on all sides.
Making the entire living room noticeably larger.
Without a doubt, this was the work of a Vacant Land Card.
However, unlike in Chen Chong’s room where the space expanded from the bed as a starting point, the living room seemed to have automatically added the new space to all sides, rather than just extending in one direction.
’It seems the Vacant Land Card extends space in the most optimal way, making it as even and rounded as possible, avoiding lopsided additions...’
"Brother Chong, you’re out? I was afraid you were sleeping, so I didn’t want to disturb you," Xu Jun said with a smile when he saw Chen Chong emerge.
Chen Chong pointed at the farmland. "You put them out here?"
"Where else?" Xu Jun seemed a bit taken aback. "My room is so small, there’s no good place for them."
Chen Chong said, "Put them in your own room. Don’t you have a Vacant Land Card?"
Xu Jun waved his hand. "That won’t work. My Vacant Land Card can only extend the space by 10 square meters, and the Fence Card and Farmland Card take up 10 square meters combined. If I really put them in my room, there’d be no place left to even stand."
"I’d be stepping in mud to get to bed. And if I raise an animal or something, I might roll right into its pen in my sleep. Don’t even get me started on the smell."
"Besides, if I get more Building Cards in the future and don’t have enough Vacant Land Cards, I’d have to put them outside anyway."
Chen Chong didn’t speak. ’Come to think of it, that makes sense.’
Xu Jun could only get Cards from his daily harvest, so he received far fewer than Chen Chong, and he only had one Vacant Land Card.
In contrast, Chen Chong could use his Cards in his own room without any such concerns.
Xu Jun could only aim for the larger space outside; otherwise, his room alone was too restrictive for him to do anything...
