Chapter 10: Chapter 8: Picking Up Cards Again, a Bountiful Harvest

Staring at the pheasant in their hands—its neck snapped by the impact—Chen Chong and Xu Jun were filled with admiration.

"I can’t believe you hit it from that far. That’s incredible!" Chen Chong exclaimed in genuine admiration.

Wang Biao grinned. "It’s nothing, really. I spent a few years in the army where we often practiced throwing stones. On top of that, I grew up in the mountains and would occasionally go hunting for small game, so I naturally picked up the skill."

"Whoa, I didn’t know you had this skill, Wang Biao!" Xu Jun was grinning from ear to ear. "Brother Chong, we can eat meat every day now! No more staring at wild fruit!"

Chen Chong buried his face in his hands with a wry smile. ’The way he says it, you’d think we’d been living in misery. Isn’t this only our second day?’

But Xu Jun had a point. With Wang Biao’s skills, even if he wasn’t a professional Hunter, bagging small game would be no problem at all.

He had been worried that another mouth to feed would strain their food supply, but now it seemed that wouldn’t be an issue.

"What’s with the ’Lord’ stuff? Just call me Jun," Xu Jun said, patting Wang Biao’s shoulder.

Wang Biao didn’t answer. It seemed he felt that would be improper, so he turned to look at Chen Chong instead.

"Why don’t you two just call each other by your names?" Chen Chong suggested. "You don’t have to call me ’Lord,’ either."

Wang Biao quickly replied, "As you command, my lord. But please forgive me, I dare not address you so informally."

Chen Chong shook his head with a wry smile.

It seemed Wang Biao had only called Xu Jun "Lord" out of respect for Chen Chong; he dropped the formality as soon as he was told.

But when it came to Chen Chong himself, Wang Biao absolutely refused to change how he addressed him.

’Is this a feature of the Recruitment Card? Does the person recruited only feel such deference toward the card’s user?’

’Whatever. There’s still that D-Class piece of intel left. I wonder if it leads to another Card?’

Chen Chong led the other two south...

One kilometer was a thousand meters.

They didn’t have any measuring tools, but an adult’s normal stride is about half a meter. As long as they counted their steps, they wouldn’t be too far off, even with some deviation.

Besides, Chen Chong had discovered that the closer he got to the location indicated by the intel, the stronger the strange sense in his mind became.

Wang Biao scouted ahead, carrying the kiwis, while Chen Chong and Xu Jun followed behind.

Now that they didn’t need to use the laundry pole to beat the grass and scare away snakes, the trio’s pace quickened considerably, almost reaching a normal walking speed.

Sure enough, their attempts to hunt two consecutive wild rabbits ended in failure. Still, Chen Chong was more than satisfied with the two pheasants.

It wasn’t a matter of Wang Biao’s skill, but rather his lack of a proper weapon.

Being able to take down a pheasant with just a stone was already incredibly impressive.

The two pheasants weren’t even the biggest surprise. The greatest prize was a Card that Xu Jun found.

He had discovered it in a wild fruit tree.

Xu Jun had excitedly climbed the tree to pick some fruit. He tossed a few down, but none of them recognized what they were. Just as they were about to give up and move on, he spotted a faint white glow within a cluster of leaves.

He reached in, and his hand came out with a D-Class Card.

"You really can just find these things! Brother Chong, I found one too!" Xu Jun was ecstatic.

"So you really can find Cards in the wild. Not just on the ground, but in trees too, apparently," Chen Chong said, a little surprised. "What kind of Card is it?"

"Let me see." Xu Jun read the Card’s information.

[Rating: D-Class]

[Description: When used, creates 5 square meters of farmland. Plants grown within it receive a +20% growth speed bonus each day.]

"Another Building Card," Xu Jun said with a hint of disappointment. He had been hoping for a Recruitment Card. He then held the Card out.

"Why are you giving it to me?" Chen Chong asked, his brow furrowing slightly.

"Didn’t we find it together? Shouldn’t it be common property?" Xu Jun asked.

"You’re the one who found it. You should keep it."

Chen Chong refused. While ordinary people could only get Cards from the daily settlement, he could rely on his intel.

Besides, Xu Jun was the one who’d found it. If not for his sharp eyes, Chen Chong would have never noticed it himself.

’We’re good friends; there’s no way I’d take advantage of him. It’s not like I’m hurting for a D-Class Card anyway.’

"You sure you don’t want it? I won’t be shy, you know," Xu Jun teased, dangling the Card back and forth in front of Chen Chong.

Chen Chong aimed a playful kick at him. "Get out of here."

"Hehe, we’re good brothers. Don’t worry, whatever we grow, we’ll eat together!" Xu Jun stopped messing around and threw an arm around Chen Chong’s shoulders, his face splitting into a wide grin.

Chen Chong smiled too.

’I truly envy the bond between my lord and his brother,’ Wang Biao thought to himself, a flicker of nostalgia in his eyes.

Bagging two pheasants and finding a Card had put all three of them in a very good mood.

Even the walk through the humid, stuffy jungle didn’t feel so bad anymore.

After walking for a while longer,

Chen Chong came to a stop. He could sense the location from the intel, and based on the steps he’d been counting, he was in the right area.

It was a relatively open patch of wilderness. Besides the vibrant green grass and some patches of bare earth, there was almost nothing else to see.

But Chen Chong scanned the area meticulously, not missing a single spot.

As he kept adjusting his steps and direction, the sensation grew stronger and stronger.

Finally, next to an unremarkable mound of dirt, he saw a Card radiating a white glow.

’Another Card, just as I thought!’

Elated, Chen Chong quickly walked over and picked it up. A stream of information instantly flooded his mind.
