Chapter 30: Chapter 27: An Adult’s Dignity
Ni Bingyan suddenly realized this.
’How many excellent women lose their minds the moment they get into a relationship?’ As someone who’d been single since birth, she truly couldn’t understand.
’It’s not like he’s the last man on Earth. Is it really worth losing yourself over him?’
’If you don’t even love yourself, what kind of brainless man would believe you truly love him?’
’Forget it. No matter how detailed a novel is, it can’t cover every single thing. Besides, the relationship between this world and the novels and scripts she had read was still debatable.’
Life isn’t a performance; you can’t just live by a script.
"You have a point. You make the call. I’ll go pack. If we forget something when we go down the mountain later, it’ll be a pain to come back for it."
Knowing it wasn’t about someone stealing a role, but just a matter of the heart, Peng Huan relaxed and found an excuse to make herself scarce.
Hearing the footsteps fade away, Ni Bingyan pondered for a moment before dialing a string of numbers.
She hadn’t saved Jiang Sheng’s number, nor had she added him as a friend on her new WeChat account. But when she wanted to contact him, a string of digits automatically surfaced in her mind.
Before she could mourn for the original owner of her body for another moment, the call connected.
"Hello? Who is this?"
He must have just woken up; his voice was thick with sleep.
Ni Bingyan felt no guilt at all. In fact, she even hoped Bai Jian was right there beside him. ’Wouldn’t that just infuriate her?’
She was just trying to live her life peacefully, not bothering anyone. But if someone started something with her, they shouldn’t blame her for finishing it.
It wasn’t that she didn’t hold a grudge; she just didn’t have the power to act on it.
With that thought, a genuine sorrow crept into her voice.
"It’s me, Ni Bingyan."
Ni Bingyan blinked, pretending to be a peerless white lotus.
The person on the other end sobered up instantly. "You’re calling me so early. Is something wrong?"
Despite being woken up so early, the moment he heard it was her, all impatience in his voice vanished.
His attitude was so good it almost made her feel bad about giving him a hard time.
’Unfortunately, he was the source of this mess. If I can’t solve the problem, I’ll have to solve the person who brought me the problem.’
So, she immediately put a genuine sob in her voice as she spoke:
"Didn’t I tell you before? After finishing this drama, I took a role as the second female lead. The contract was already signed, and I’d even memorized more than half my lines. But then, late last night, I got a call from the director saying someone wants to have me replaced."
’Oh, so she’s come to me for help.’
Realizing this, Jiang Sheng’s entire mood brightened.
The girl used to be incredibly stubborn. No matter what trouble she ran into, she would never say a word. Now that they had broken up, she finally knew to come to him. What a rare occasion.
Snatching roles was a common occurrence in the entertainment industry. She rarely took on roles with this kind of ranking before, so few people targeted her. But now they were popping up, weren’t they?
’Calling so early for help... she must be terrified, right?’
Jiang Sheng pushed aside the covers and sat up. He grabbed the water from his bedside table and drank half a glass before clearing his throat and asking, "Who did it?"
’Getting bullied the moment I’m not watching her... sigh! How can I possibly rest easy?’
Ni Bingyan sniffled, remaining silent.
’This is why this whole thing is so tricky.’
’If I don’t handle this right, Jiang Sheng will think I still have feelings and won’t leave me alone, while Bai Jian will think I’m deliberately provoking her and will surely come after me relentlessly.’
’Want to go after them aggressively and settle the score? I Can’t Afford to Offend them.’
’They only have to move their mouths, and I’ll be forced to beg for help from anyone and everyone. Why would I bring that trouble on myself?’
As for how her actions might cause friction between those two, that was none of her business.
’If you dare to do it, you have to dare to face the consequences, right?’
When Jiang Sheng asked again who did it, she sniffled and finally said, "I was up all night. I only found out at dawn that it was Miss Bai Jian who had her uncle do this."
He hadn’t expected it to be Bai Jian. Jiang Sheng was stunned.
He didn’t doubt that Ni Bingyan was lying.
It was just that the two of them had never crossed paths before. And since he hadn’t decided to form a marriage alliance with the Bai family, what on earth had gotten into Bai Jian?
While he was trying to figure it out, the crying on the other end of the line faded, replaced by a faint hint of anger:
"I’ve never even met Miss Bai, so I can’t figure out why she’s targeting me like this. It can’t possibly be just because I used to be with you, can it? I thought you might know, which is why I called you, but it seems you don’t know either? How about you ask for me?!"
He originally thought Ni Bingyan was calling to ask for help, but it turned out she was here to hold him accountable!
’Is she blaming me for getting her into this mess?’
’But it’s not like I did it!’
Jiang Sheng felt incredibly wronged. Just as he was about to speak, the person on the other end sounded even more wronged than he did:
"I’d only ever heard that murderers and arsonists would be severely punished. I never thought dating would be this risky!"
Here she comes. The Feng Shui Master may be late, but she always arrives.
How could dating him be put on the same level as murder and arson?
Was he really that terrible?
Jiang Sheng was exasperated. "You can count on me to handle it. I don’t know what’s gotten into her this time, but I apologize on her behalf. This won’t happen again, I guarantee it!"
Ni Bingyan raised an eyebrow.
’If the original owner heard that, she probably would have died of anger on the spot!’
But she thought it was fine.
She had made this call precisely for this guarantee. With her goal achieved, everything else was small potatoes.
Still, she was holding in some resentment, so Ni Bingyan decided to be a little mischievous before hanging up:
"I’ve always been confident in how you handle things. It’s just that I don’t know her and have no idea what she’s like, so I came to you to pass on a message. When you see her, just tell her that every grievance has its perpetrator and every debt its debtor. A couple’s private matters shouldn’t involve outsiders. The way she’s handling things... it’s just not right..."
They say people start to get twisted when they’ve been provoked. Jiang Sheng felt that Ni Bingyan was straying further and further down that path.
Just listen to that mouth on her!
She could talk someone to death with pure sarcasm!
"Her and I..."
For some reason, hearing her say that made Jiang Sheng immediately want to explain, but before he could finish, she had already hung up.
It was incredibly abrupt.
