Chapter 857: Chapter 830: Tudalin
"Continuous Magic ’Celestial Court’!" Machimura said, "This card can only be activated during your main phase.
If there is a 1-star Angel Race present on your field, you can Special Summon an Angel Race monster from your hand!"
As Yugen anticipated, a card that requires a 1-star Angel Race for activation would naturally be the Celestial Court.
Now the question is: which Angel Race monster does he intend to summon?
Machimura didn’t immediately take action but squinted at the three Hand-Holding Demons on Yugen’s field.
"Hand-Holding Demon, although appearing to be an ordinary, weak Demon, actually hides a troublesome ability." He smirked, "When Hand-Holding Demon exists in the Monster Zone, the opponent cannot select other monsters as attack targets.
Now there are three Hand-Holding Demons on the field, each requiring the opponent to ’only attack itself’. In other words, with all three demons present on the field, I cannot select any as attack targets..."
"Oh?" Yugen chuckled, "No wonder you possess the knowledge of the ’Anti-Deck’ card store despoiler with a hundred decks; your knowledge reserve is quite substantial."
But Hand-Holding Demons aren’t exactly rare cards, so it isn’t surprising that the opponent knows about them.
"Haha, that was in the past. It was a title earned when I was young and naive."
Machimura squinted.
"Furthermore, the Defense Power of Hand-Holding Demons increases by the original Defense Power values of defense-position monsters other than themselves on the field.
Now with two defense-position Hand-Holding Demons, their Defense Power will stack on each other...
[Hand-Holding Demon, Defense Power 3200] x2
"A Defense Power of over three thousand is not easy to deal with." Machimura said lightly, "Even if I manage to break through the monster effect defense, it’s still challenging to overcome that three thousand Defense Power."
He paused, not continuing.
Well, it indeed aligns with Duel King intelligence tactics. To start with such an entirely defensive monster.
However...
He slightly curled the corner of his mouth.
He had a countermeasure.
"I’m going to summon this fellow..."
Machimura’s lips curled upwards, as he raised the card in his hand high. That card seemed to radiate a dazzling white light capable of dispelling the darkness.
"Absolute Ruler of Light, Angel that vanquishes darkness—
—Tudalin!!!"
Countless rays of white light merged, forming silver-white iron armor. It was an angel emitting a brilliant radiance, so bright that its face was nearly indistinguishable, descending as if illuminating the entire gloomy forest into daylight.
[Tudalin, Attack Power 2800]
"Is it actually Tudalin?" Yugen frowned.
He vaguely remembers. Tudalin is also a formidable lockdown-type monster, but he recalls that if this card wasn’t summoned with a specific effect, it might be just a blank slate without effects...
"Tudalin is the ultimate ruler of light, tolerating absolutely no darkness on the field!"
Machimura shouted sternly.
"Absolute Light Annihilation!"
As his voice fell, Tudalin’s body outshone with endless brilliance, erupting like a blinding sun in the sky!
Even the shadows in the forest seemed to vanish upon touching the light, the scorching brilliance swept across the entire field. The three Hand-Holding Demons on Yugen’s field couldn’t resist even their hand-crafted defense when exposed to the intense light, instantly wiped out and turned into ashes.
Yugen frowned slightly.
"I see." He muttered to himself, "There’s a difference after physical card conversion again."
At this moment Machimura laughed loudly three times, explaining: "With Tudalin, the absolute master of light on the field, any Dark Attribute monsters will be exterminated, and Dark Attribute monsters cannot exist on the field!"
The comic original describes it in just one sentence: "Dark Attribute monsters cannot exist on the field." But the statement is unstandardized and abstract, whether it’s "cannot be summoned" or "immediately destroyed after being summoned", there’s still a significant difference in actual handling.
However, after being converted to physical cards, it standardized the description. Tudalin, when summoned, destroys all corresponding attribute monsters, and afterwards, prevents any corresponding attribute monsters from being summoned.
Moreover, the effects for physical cards were significantly enhanced.
In the original comic, Tudalin was a monster the card store despoiler fielded against Muto Yuugi—for they discovered after match reports that most of Muto Yuugi’s main monsters were of Dark Attribute, so they specifically used this card against him.
Yet physical Tudalin is not limited to targeting Dark Attributes alone. This card allows the Duelist, upon summoning, to declare any attribute, and as long as Tudalin remains on the field, anything with the declared attribute will be completely locked.
It sounds amazing, but it’s not so practical in actual gameplay. Because physical Tudalin is limited, it must be summoned from the hand via Special Summon after two monsters are battle-destroyed within one’s own battle phase for the lock effect to activate.
In contrast, the original comic allows targeting of Dark Attributes without activation restrictions and starts as long as you bring it into play, rather than through the specified method.
Nonetheless...
Yugen eyed the opponent’s Upper Angel dangerously.
This is also a good rare card. Its ability to declare any attribute and absolutely lock is quite promising and seems worthy of exploration.
Not bad, not bad, this card is impressive. Thanks to Brother Hyakuno for traversing miles to bring it here personally, Yugen feels appreciative.
"This way, your hand-holding defense crumbled!" Machimura gloated, "Although Duel King is known for his lockdown strategy, bolstered layers are hard to break through. Now you see, it’s nothing more than that. Previously, those Duelists were just amateurs."
Yugen shrugged, not refuting anything.
"This turn, I haven’t performed a Normal Summon yet." Machimura declared, "In this turn, let me finish it all in one go—
—I’ll sacrifice ’Cotton Ball’, Upper-level Summon!
Come forth! Sky Knight - Perseus!"
Cotton Ball dissipated into a haze of light particles, with that brilliance merging again, constructing a white-light summoning array. A noble knight emerged from the array, standing majestically on the field.
[Sky Knight - Perseus, Attack Power 1900]
"Sorry, Duel King, though we’ve had a brief encounter, this turn let me finish it all in one go!"
Machimura shouted fervently.
"Go ahead, first is Tudalin, direct attack on Duel King!"
The dazzling brilliance assembled, forming a churning giant light ball before Tudalin! Like a blazing white sun, it’s hurricane whirling, roaring relentlessly towards Yugen!
